I like Paul 'Willie Green', Womack, from the first time you featured him on the channel. Then I got the multitracks to a tune he did with Prem Rock, and I liked that. I like his developmental DIY approach and sonic vocabulary. You can sense he's been doing it for some time and seems to have garnered kit that really works for him, rather than just filling his studio with the standard kit. Plus, I like the fact that he's a Cubase user, and seems a cool dude. You should get him on more
DIY Recording Equipment is one of my favorite companies. I’ve made countless videos on their stuff. Pres, compressors, saturators, they are a huge part of my workflow.
Cool interview. Not sure if everybody caught what hes doing with the Ferofish and cubase. He is using cubase mixer like a console, and running inserts out live to his outboard gear for processing in Realtime. No need to print fx/dsp. allowing him to treat his external gear like a plugin which allows him to keep making changes say to an external eq or compressor and never having to commit to audio the fx/dsp unless he wants to. To me this is one of the best way to work with a hybrid setup.
Loved this episode. His setup is great and similar in some ways to mine (but he as more cool stuff), minus my separate tracking space. Willie seems like a great dude.
wow super nice. dudes worked on some great records. billy woods hiding places and armand hammers parraffin are some of the best stuff ive heard. im 56 go way back. black sabb to black flag to sterolab to MF DOOM to andy shauf to roc marci to nick cave. dont sleep on this mans work it is top notch
I really dig his approach to gear and music production in general. The way he explains things I always feel like understanding a new perspective. I kinda wish he did more "creativity centered" videos because often times when he's featured somewhere it's mainly about gear or presenting plugins (which i get, it's a business and when you do it for a living you want to make money)
Nice to see someone else using DBX 163's. I've got one in my home studio and used to use another one in my live bass rig where it was very uncomplicated and effective.
Wow! Shout out to DIY recording equipment! I have built and use their EQs, Compressors, Pres and and I have a bag full of analog plug ins like Willie! They are so much fun and truly are an affordable way to find some analog vibe in a digital world! And using these analog modules as plug ins saves you so much CPU! I highly recomend PLAP to look into DIY. Im curious how many more PLAP folks out there have built and use DIY equipment and modules. Great as usual!
DIY Recording Equipment, that company is doing awesome things. Their cost to quality ratio is out of this world compared to almost any other company out there. He's got a really small outfit putting these circuits together, but you can tell he's invested his entire mental process and love to it.
The Warehouse Studio - The Bryan Adams studio in Vancouver! about GOLD Comp-3A: They don't have this compressed high end that the original LA-3A has or 1176 or even from the newest one (not that old) The Brute and The Brute II by Inward connection.
You may have all ready made this video but I would love to see the signal/ routing chain in these big studios with the huge ssl boards. I mean I have about 9 rackmounts and a snake and my chain is crazy I can’t image what’s it’s like but I am really interested, like do these big board have a lot of I/O etc etc
Hey Warren, I'm in the market for a new laptop. I will be using it only for recording artists and bands. There is a project coming up that I will need to record a 5 piece band in a live studio setup. What CPU and RAM do you recommend to handle the job and or other specs I'm not aware of??? Thanks
I recommend going to Apple for a refurbished laptop and since you're just recording then 16 GB RAM and go for highest CPU for longevity and in case you start to do more than record.
If I ruled the world I'd love all the girls Wear diamonds and pearls If I ruled the world If I ruled the world, was king on the throne I'd make peace in every culture, build the homeless a home I'm not runnin', for Congress or the President I'm just here, to tell the world, how my story went You see first it was a dream, I was livin' in Rome And then I moved to London, bought a brand new home And everywhere I went, I drew lots of attention Like a stretch Limousine, one of those new inventions It took a few years 'fore the day had come But I was ruler of the world ranked number one So I headed towards Washington to claim the crown Let the whole world know that, the King was in town As I, arrived, the crowd started to cheer And then someone yelled out, "The King is here" So I headed toward the stage, to make a speech About the new style of livin' I was gonna teach If I ruled the world I'd love all the girls, I love 'em, love 'em, baby Black diamonds and pearls If I ruled the world People started flowin' as they reached for my hand I said, "Thank you for bringin' me to your promised land But now I must go, say goodbye to everybody Tonight I'll see you all at my super dinner party" And late that night, at my super dinner party I was dancin' to the beat and entertainin' La-Di-Da-Di The music started endin', it was time for a speech The crowd started sittin' as I rose from my feet And this was once a dream, I explained to the crowd But now, I rule the world and I feel so very proud Excuse me please, for stoppin' this show I just had to thank you all, huh, and me so My first day in office, the King on the throne I spent my first three hours on the telephone You know with newsmen, reporters, and voters too I had so many calls, I didn't know what to do You know out of that office I continued to work I signed so many papers, my fingers started to hurt Then I shook off the pain, say this ain't no thing 'Cause there's nothin' in the world like bein' number one King If I ruled the world I'd love all the girls, I love 'em, love 'em, baby Black diamonds and pearls If I ruled the world, yeah! This song changed world

Willie is a great talent and a wonderful teacher
Removing a capacitor from a spring reverb or what it was to get a wet signal, that's what I call analog.
The original Echoplex was a nice surprise. Cool episode !
