It's hard to imagine this album was release 1998! It was soo long ahead of its time. The shape of punk to come was a brilliant title. Oh, and they're Swedish.

Saw Refused twice in their hometown (I live 2 hours from there) in the later part of the 90’s. They were an absolute monster of a live act. And David Sandström is a beast on the drums.

Discovered this specific Music Video on an Epitaph Records Punk o' Rama Vol. 1 VHS back in 2001. As a 12 year old young man this VHS completely changed my life. I was so taken by New Noise I became a drummer within that year and have been playing ever since!
This album is one of the few that can get stuck on repeat in my car because l just can't stop listening to it, once or even twice just isn't enough.
Of course that hasn't happened for a while since discovering Jinjer about a year ago, now it is their entire playlist that plays on an endless loop 😂
I don't understand why this doesn't have more views, but I hope you are going to do more from Refused 👍👊
I had somehow never heard this song until maybe a year ago (I'm in my mid 40s). Love it.
I saw them in 2012 on their reunion tour. They were amazing.

They’re Swedish, from the northern part of Sweden in a city called Umeå also known as the “Swedish hardcore Mecca”
Ohh no way! I'm definitely gonna have to look into that. It's fascinating that there are certain regions where a disproportionate amount of great music comes from. I.e Seattle and grunge.

Alright here comes a list of cool older and newer bands that had a pretty big impact on Swedish hardcore punk. Sadly most of these bands never made videos and the few live videos you’ll find are pretty shite quality.

My personal favourite band of all time and the band that sold me on hardcore, both as a genre and a mindset.

Paranoid
Don’t think let the Japanese fool you these guys are from the inland of Sweden and are probably the biggest raw punk band playing right now. Their bassist has also been one of the vocalist in Totalt Jävla Mörker and is a total legend in the scene here.

7:49 Another very british-inspired band, was TINK. Same lead singer as in Refused. You might be thinking of The Hives though. Hey, both Swedish bands like Refused.

Swedish music wonder
There is so many great bands from Sweden that needs more recognition
Like the baboon show, the sounds and the list goes on and on
It seems like decades that I heared this song for the first time... wait, it is decades ago... but nevertheless, it is a great song and I think it apears in the swedish movie Jalla Jalla... but not 100% sure (great movie btw)

Shape of punk to come.... I think you're placing angst where it shouldnt be. The central lyrics are "we dance to all the wrong songs, enjoy all the wrong notes" so yeah, it's a punk record with the understanding that "fuck everyone else" is a punk ethos and so they use their synths and lean into hardcore etc. It's fun and weird and very unusual for 4 on the floor punk/hardcore in 1998. But it's not angst, it's fun!

Refused are a deeply socialist band, and this album is thick with socialist lyrics. Dig a little deeper. The angst is there. 😉
