It's hard to imagine this album was release 1998! It was soo long ahead of its time. The shape of punk to come was a brilliant title. Oh, and they're Swedish.
In 1997... I bought it in 1997, this is one of THOSE album you remember all your life when it slapped you in your face... Like Dark Side Of The Moon, Tommy or Kind of Blue.
Saw Refused twice in their hometown (I live 2 hours from there) in the later part of the 90’s. They were an absolute monster of a live act. And David Sandström is a beast on the drums.
Discovered this specific Music Video on an Epitaph Records Punk o' Rama Vol. 1 VHS back in 2001. As a 12 year old young man this VHS completely changed my life. I was so taken by New Noise I became a drummer within that year and have been playing ever since!
This album is one of the few that can get stuck on repeat in my car because l just can't stop listening to it, once or even twice just isn't enough. Of course that hasn't happened for a while since discovering Jinjer about a year ago, now it is their entire playlist that plays on an endless loop 😂 I don't understand why this doesn't have more views, but I hope you are going to do more from Refused 👍👊
I really enjoyed you watching/hearing this for the first time. Getting fooled by the synth part of the intro. Just so satisfying. And your analysis is pretty on point too.
Thanks mate! I appreciate that. I try to be entertaining, but sometimes I get swept up in the song and forget I am actually doing something. 😆🤘 It's hard trying to dissect a song live on the first ever listen. Half the time I'm not even sure what I'm talking about so I really appreciate that sentiment. Rock on! 🤘
Ohh no way! I'm definitely gonna have to look into that. It's fascinating that there are certain regions where a disproportionate amount of great music comes from. I.e Seattle and grunge.
@@PrymalChaos Alright here comes a list of cool older and newer bands that had a pretty big impact on Swedish hardcore punk. Thanks for taking the time to fill me in! I'll take a look at them. This is exactly the Reason started this channel. All of you guys gave been awesome!
So many of their songs are in my "Forever awesome" spotify list. 7:49 Another very british-inspired band, was TINK. Same lead singer as in Refused. You might be thinking of The Hives though. Hey, both Swedish bands like Refused.
It seems like decades that I heared this song for the first time... wait, it is decades ago... but nevertheless, it is a great song and I think it apears in the swedish movie Jalla Jalla... but not 100% sure (great movie btw)
Shape of punk to come.... I think you're placing angst where it shouldnt be. The central lyrics are "we dance to all the wrong songs, enjoy all the wrong notes" so yeah, it's a punk record with the understanding that "fuck everyone else" is a punk ethos and so they use their synths and lean into hardcore etc. It's fun and weird and very unusual for 4 on the floor punk/hardcore in 1998. But it's not angst, it's fun!
"When the day is over, the doors are locked on us 'Cause money buys the access, and we can't pay the cost How can we expect anyone to listen if we are using the same old voice We need new noise New art for real people!" Refused are a deeply socialist band, and this album is thick with socialist lyrics. Dig a little deeper. The angst is there. 😉
"The shape of punk to come "is one of the best records ever.
The influence though....

Yes! Thank you. I couldn't figure out where they were from.

Cool! We might have been to the same shows.

I saw them in 2012 on their reunion tour. They were amazing.

I had somehow never heard this song until maybe a year ago (I'm in my mid 40s). Love it.
Not a gamer then lol
They’re Swedish, from the northern part of Sweden in a city called Umeå also known as the “Swedish hardcore Mecca”
Ohh no way! I'm definitely gonna have to look into that. It's fascinating that there are certain regions where a disproportionate amount of great music comes from. I.e Seattle and grunge.
@@PrymalChaos absolutely! I have heaps of great Swedish punk and metal from that part of the country if you’re interested

Sweden, Polarcirkel, Straight Edge and pure awesomeness!
Pure energy... Love it.
yeah, it's classic rock. it's 25 years old. that's the literal definition
Gotta come back to these guys, this album, and do the title track "The Shape of Punk to Come". Have to 🤙
And the moves he’s doing are totally James Brown
You just encountered the country that invented hardcore. Raised fist next? Hardcore! Every body else is the followers:)
A staple of every punk/rock night at clubs i've been to in the early 2000s in the UK
I'm British and these are Swedish, bad production???? You tripping?
1) This is a good reaction video. Worthwhile comments.
2) You give me a Trever from Face to Face vibe. You should do a Disconnected reaction.
There is no way you haven’t heard this in the 100 Hollywood movies 🎥 that it’s in
Refused is so good.
Telling us to listen when we've been jamming this since 1998 hah
I'm always late to the party. 😂😂

First time for me. Very cool song! I have to do more stuff that is the grass roots of the genre.
Swedish music wonder
There is so many great bands from Sweden that needs more recognition
Like the baboon show, the sounds and the list goes on and on
They are swedish..
Do "World" by SLT!! Or second choice, "Control" by SLT
"New Noise" man
They're Swedish.

Talking 2 much
Stopping (twice) during the intro ruins the whole thing.
