I'm at the section where Chris is talking about how much work it is to make an album. Dude, this NEEDS to be brought to light, and more bands need to make this clear to their fan base. Bands should almost publish how much time, money, and effort it took to make each album. As a musician myself, I know how much work it is, and the bands I used to play in weren't doing anything remotely close to the complexity of Schammasch, but it utterly slays me when I see comments on YT of kids whining that albums aren't on Spotify. Knowing full well that Spotify doesn't pay bands shit. Or the fact that people won't even bat an eye at dropping $10 for shit coffee at Starbucks, but won't support a band they like by BUYING their music. Especially when you know how hard it is or like Chris said, "draining". It's so much time, effort, and work to make an album, and people just feel entitled or justified in stealing it or giving their money to support a streaming service instead of supporting the band directly. Many are simply under the impression that bands like Schammasch are making Metallica money and when not on tour Chris is zipping around Basel and joy riding in his ferrari. It's crazy. I could rant on this shit all day and it could be a podcast in itself. As much as I love being able to have hundreds of albums right on my phone, digital music has crippled the music industry and made it incredibly difficult to be a GOOD self-sustaining musician WITHOUT a day job.
Good shit man! Subbed and I'll be checking out more of your vids!

Ahhh man, I should've listened to the whole thing before commenting. I would've loved to have been a part of this conversation, I didn't disagree with anything you guys were talking about. Great stuff!
Couple more sentiments, I've been going to concerts since 1989 and I've had the luxury of going to hundreds of shows before this whole social media/cell phone epidemic, and I will say that I absolutely miss being able to go to a show without feeling like an intermittent windshield wiper trying to look past a bunch of assholes holding their phone up through the whole show. That said, I would 100% fully endorse a "no cell phone" policy! Especially for a band like Schammasch, where the live show would for me at least be something of a spiritual experience, or any live show where you just want to immerse yourself in the experience. I don't understand the point of paying money to go to a show to watch it through your phone just to post the same pictures/video that every other asshole with their phone up already posted.
As a fan and avid concert goer, I will say that just as much as cell phones have ruined the concert experience, I think click tracks have done just as much if not more damage. I understand that you're still getting the live experience and all that, but a live concert loses that magic when it's structured. Back in the day I loved going to shows because you knew you were going to hear songs in a different way, whether it was improvised solos, songs played faster than the album, parts being added, whatever... when you're a slave to that click track there's no room for any of that and for me it's stifling to the energy of the performance or just the live experience as a whole. I'd rather hear the songs live and raw with the possibility of a trainwreck, versus hearing the songs as they are on the album only now they're being played to a fancy synchronized light show. But that's me. I suppose my own ego actually likes when a band I admire fucks up or trainwrecks a song. It shows they're human and fallible and more REAL... plus it makes me feel better about myself as a musician haha.
Lastly, just to touch on social media. With the exception of RUclips(if you want to consider it social media), I deleted all social media from my life 10 years ago and I always encourage as many people as possible to do the same. Social media has brainwashed everyone to be "self-important", then of course COVID hit, and everyone is completely insane! I genuinely feel sorry for anyone who seeks validation or value on their life based on "likes" or the opinions of others. Or worse, gets a feeling of superiority to anyone else because they went somewhere, or have a lot of followers and likes. Most people for all intents and purposes are "nobody", and they put far too much emphasis on the approval or opinions of other "nobodies" because they're all trying to be "somebody" which is ultimately what makes social media so toxic. There's no amount of money that would ever make me give up my anonymity.
I know it's necessary evil if you're in a band, have a podcast, or own a business... but man, there's gotta be a better way that makes people less crazy and self important. I'll shut up and stop MY long winded comments! haha. Cheers!

i don't really go to shows but i do make very rare exceptions so last year i went to a schammasch gig after waiting 3 years for the tour to happen due to the whole global thing, and it was totally worth it
also don't understand the phone at shows thing, for me going to a show is such a rare occurrence that if it happens i'm there fully to experience and soak it all in
excited for the new album, good conversation
