Nope. No Dime and no Vinnie no deal. This is an insult to the Abbott brothers. At least call it a tribute band. As good as Zakk Wylde is he can't recreate what Dime did in the guitar. Dime had is own style and feel. Just my humble opinion 😌

I am personally very happy that this is happening. Phil and Rex got the approval from Abbott state and their family members. This is gonna wash away a lot of bad blood between Phil and Pauls. Unfortunately, two of them died. We cant see them on stage ever again. It is what it is. Lets celebrate Pantera majesty by continuing the legacy. Rex and Phil were a important part of the band, as much as other two were.

I mean.... seeing them now is not really seeing them. ITs seeing a variation of them with two of the most important pieces removed.
Ill say this much, i saw them 3 times and one of those shows was the near perfection you'd imagine. The other 2, one Phil was too fucked up, throwing up on stage, barely singing, it was pretty bad. The other one Phil and Dime were both very fucked up and while it was better than the second one, it was still pretty bad. And from what i understand, most people who have seen them multiple times, have had this same experience. Now im sure things are different now because Phil is..... nearly 60 and Zakk does not have the drinking issues Dime did but i don't know. I cant bring myself to go see them. I find this interesting and ill watch some videos of it. But its not Pantera and even if it was, i would question the quality of the show.

People go nuts when Phil comes on stage for a song with some random band to do a momentary tribute to pantera during their show, but add Rex, the original bassist, and make a show of it, and now it's bad? And yeah Phil said some very bad things about Dime for sure and the other, but he's every bit as responsible for Pantera's sound as the Abbots. Don't hear people talk about pantera before cowboys from hell, and don't hear too many people really talk about Damage plan. And hell, even if someone don't like Phil, I'd still support to keep it alive in the generation, and most importantly, for Rex. Imagine never being able to feel that energy again that was taken from you so young. It's therapy for them both, and it'd be therapy for me as well, especially considering I never got to see them when whole. Yeah, it's not gonna be the same, but people don't have a problem with, and still pay to see ZZ top, Judas Priest, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Alice in Chains, Stone Temple Pilots, Journey, G n R, Megadeth, Kansas, the list goes on. I mean I get it, but it's not that bad when you think about it.

@@Ottophil have you saw phil's house? It's kinda run down from what I can tell. Google has pics of it when it was pretty nice but it's went downhill. I saw recent vids near it from a spoof thing a channel was doing with Phil. I don't expect you to have seen it, but yeah he doesn't drive no real nice car or anything either heck his pickup is 20 years old has a duct taped tail light and has for years or did back when the house was newer and did at the time of that spoof vid, too, so a good 15 years later still had the duct tape. And in fact, he didn't have enough money to save his dad's restaurant in New Orleans either, which he was pretty desperate to do. He ain't shittin in high cotton anyway and didn't have 50k or whatever to save the restaurant. Looks like he's getting by, but not necesarily got a lot. He spends a little money on his horror stuff but who doesn't have a hobby. Now Rex, I don't know as much. I did hear he drinks absolutely constantly though. I dont think they're rolling in the dough. Especially now that their album sales have probably went down tremendously compared to 2000's. Phil has done many many recent and somewhat recent interviews, and I'd say its mostly because he needed the money. I could be wrong, sure, but idk.

It's a half cover band. The heart and soul of the band are dead. Calling this newfangled thing "Pantera" was a shitty thing to do, especially since Dime and Vinnie respected Phil and Rex enough to form a new band (Damageplan) as opposed to just continuing on with "Pantera" while Phil was ignoring them and prioritizing DOWN and Superjoint Ritual back then. While this current thing is certainly a fat payday for all involved, I feel it's all more about weird, unresolved internal shit for Phil and a bunch of others involved. Pantera died when Dime died, and since Vince is dead as well, what's left of its members are a bassist, and a vocalist who can barely muster the performance from the latter half of the discography. No thanks.

Getting Benante and Wylde onboard seems a good move - both don't have to prove themselves anymore than they already have for many decades, and there's a legit camaraderie between everyone.
When Slayer needed a replacement for Jeff Hanneman the reached out to Gary Holt mainly because Holt's a good friend & they cut their teeth together.

I'd vote for Attila Voros also, this man is the closest to Dime i know of and pays so much attention to details & articulations of his playing. Tbh i'm a fan of Pantera since childhood and i have no problem with this reunion, all the arguments online i read don't really have merit and lead nowhere:
1- " Vinnie and Dime would spin in their grave", no i dont think so. While they were alive they were clear about the fact that Pantera was a thing of the past for them and they moved on with Damage Plan. They wouldn't have cared after their death what would have happened to Pantera. Matter of fact, that's the best compliment you can make them : see the online community struggle to find a best fit for each to revive their work 20 years later. Not only they were never forgotten, Pantera still has an important place in our heart as metalheads.
2 - Cover band argument : really i don't know why that is a problem for fans now. Almost all of my iconic band have none of the original band members that made that band great at one point in time and we still go to their concert hyped af. Sepultura has no Max Cavalera, Metallica had no Jason Newsted ( or Cliff depending of your fetish), In Flames and Soilwork are constantly changing line ups, Mayhem had to rebuild the whole thing because there was only one member left....and there are millions of other examples no one bat an eye on but when i comes to Pantera...hell yeah Vinnie & Dime are certainly blushing right now.
Also let's not forget that Phil & Rex wrote these iconic songs too and they are the only one who can call it Pantera, it's as legit as this can get. After all it's a tour band, i don't think they will go on studio to write a new album....
Let's just hope that Rex & Phil are aware of the fans expectations : it's not just a Pantera revival, it's Dime and Vinnie revival too in a way.

Amongst the myriad of copycats out there that can play & bend all notes perfectly on time, with an awesome tone there are very very few people who sound like Dime does.

And I guess this means Zakk is gonna be the one to debut the new Dime guitars, so is Wylde Audio/Schecter making them, or maybe with Rex's new Gibson sponsorship, they could be up to something sneaky.

What the hell kind of backwards logic is that? Let's stand back and appreciate two guys for not being callous assholes to the brother whose other brother was shot and killed on stage right in front of him? That's a pretty low bar to sit back and recognize.
There's no respect in this whatsoever. There's only a payday now that Vince is deceased and he can't put the kibosh on this. He was adamantly against ever having Pantera be anything other than himself, Dime, Phil, and Rex. In fact, that was the whole reason Damageplan was formed while Phil was being wishy-washy for years. The brothers were tired of waiting on him.
You want to talk about respect? It was out of respect to the original 4 (from CFH, of course) that the brothers didn't carry on with the name "Pantera". It was all or none for that band. That was always the agreement. Pantera was on hold until such a time that Phil wasn't prioritizing DOWN, Superjoint Ritual, and whatever the hell else. (Rex was always on board to continue.)
But then Dimebag Darrel died, and with him, so did Pantera. Vince made it clear throughout the rest of his life that there was never, ever going to be a Pantera again. Do you even realize what Pantera was to him? No Dime, no Pantera.
For anyone who has been clued into this whole thing throughout the years starting with Phil abandoning Pantera, it's blatantly obvious that this is now just a fat, convenient payday for Phil and the rest. They'd might as well stop by Vinnie's grave on tour so they can go spit on it, because that's basically what they're doing by shopping this half-cover band AS the band "Pantera". If it wasn't Pantera without Phil and Rex, then it sure as hell isn't Pantera without Dime and Vinnie.
It is what it is and I'm not as upset as it probably seems. I just had to chime in and let you know how bonkers your assertion sounds to anyone who has lived through the history of this band. Even if everyone else currently living is okay with it happening, at the end of the day, Phil knows that he's taking a hot shit directly on Vinnie's wishes by doing this. Given EVERYTHING Vinnie had to say about this up to his dying day, there's absolutely no reason to assume that Vinnie cast any sort of post-mortem support of Pantera carrying on without either of its two founding members.
Quite the contrary to your assertion, this all feels about as disrespectful of a thing as I can think of given the history. This definitely isn't an effort I can support in the way it's being done. But I'm just a rando, so I know it doesn't matter how I feel one way or the other.

8:19 really cant believe you didnt mention kayla kent. she above all people right now is doing the most justice to pantera stuff. go watch her cemetery gates, floods, domination solos they're incredible. and she dedicates her entire channel to dime.

There are many guitar players that could pull it off including Kayla and also Courtney Cox for instance, I was just throwing out examples.

@@Eri4Jp dude her playing stands on its own and honestly, if phil wants to undo his *cough* image *cough* he's developed since 2016, maybe he would do good asking a girl to join them on tour.

It´s a real tough one... no easy answer as you said. Understand both sides ofcourse, but brothers Dime & Vinnie were freakin monster legends! Dime especially is one of my all time heroes (I´m a drummer and can´t play guitar but LOVE all things guitar just as much). And it goes without saying that Vinnie is also one of my heroes.
I still remember the news in 04´ when the tradgedy with Dime happened, but at that time i had never heard of Pantera, Damageplan or Dime. Some time later when i was at my friends house and were listening to music, he showed me his newest favorit guitar solo. It was a song called The Sleep by a band called Pantera. He was like: "Check out this amazing guitar solo, it has so much feel and is just insane". He put it on and i was hooked! Damn they sound good, heavy and hade awesome guitar/drum playing! It was at that time i remembered the news from before and i was like fuck, there is no more Dime...
They are to this day one of my all time favorites, they inspired us and many others to this day. Top tier legends!
So yes, Phil & Rex is just as much Pantera as Dime & Vinnie ofcourse. But it will never ever be the same just because Dime & Vinnie had such an impact on me. It can be done in a cool way but the musicians they choose is critical and as much as Zakk & Charlie are great it doesn´t really make it "tingle" for me.
Thats my "quick" take on it 😁
    Ha de gött!

I loved your early videos lol. I remember them well!!! I made a video as well as soon as “the news” came out. Of course a few hours before they announced Zakk and Charlie.

Ola I’m almost 60 years old and can still listen to Pantera every day and never get sick of it. I’ve never seen them live and I want to. The first thing I thought of when I heard about the reunion was if Pantera went to Sweden you would get on stage and play a set with them. I think Dime is the best guitarist of all time and you honor him so well. Ola please upload a video next year with you playing a song on stage with Pantera, it would be epic!
