For those who are here for Dizzee: Guthrie Govan is arguably the most talented modern guitarist outside of the mainstream. For those who are here for Guthrie: Dizzee Rascal is a popular artist in the UK whose first album made him the first rapper to receive the country's coveted Mercury Prize. Both are great musicians, and both benefit from the other: Dizzee gets Guthrie's versatile playing for his own music, and Guthrie finally gets some good mainstream attention.
I was wondering why he would be playing with the keyboard player from Guns n Roses and why would they be doing RATM Bulls on Parade. Pleased I watched :)
Yeah never mind Dizzee being England's 3rd biggest rapper or so, I totally came for the random guy he found jamming at the local music store. Seriously, I've played guitar for 20 years and I've never even heard of this guy.
@@Dhakadice The fact that you've never heard of guthrie govan only tells that you've stopped discovering new guitar players a while back. Guthrie is probably one of the most influential guitarists for the generation of players that's starting to hit the stages at the moment.
but he does it without the 58 Morello's pedals... may be the people dont know him very much, is probably the best electric guitar player nowadays, is the first time I see him do a thing like this,

The good thing about Dizzee is that he lets good musicians play whatever they want, improvise, in front of the big public. That's a great opportunity for all these artists.
Even though I am a HUGE Rage Against The Machine fan... and Tom Morello is one of my top 5 guitarists of all time... I have to say... Guthrie REALLY takes the spotlight in this one and made it SO MUCH MORE AWESOMER.
Listening to covers really makes me realize the reason why the originals are so good, dizzys rap is so monotonal and inflectioless compaired to Zach, and Toms metronomic/percussive playing gels with hiphops on time beats so well.
i went to a guthrie masterclass in manchester last week, and we know he is beyond amazing, but trust me hes better than u think he is, get to a show and watch this guy play
The bassist in this video is a friend of Guthrie, and ran a company reproducing music samples so for example rappers can use the reproduced samples with less legal work. Dizzee Rascal happened to have hired this company for his songs. When the BBC approached Dizzee Rascal to do this concert, he had no idea how to put together a band, so he just contacted the sample reproduction company to get a band together.
Great video, few pull off decent rage covers, though, I wonder why they included some random guy intermittently attempting to sing the intro from the immigrant song...
yeah. i suspect that solo was improvised and dizzee has never heard it, since he said he just learned the words yesterday, they might not rehearsed that together. or in the first 3 secs dizzee was thinking 'who hired a dj without telling me??" that solo sounds awesome. tom morello inspired of course, and very appropriate but guthrie managed to put his own stamp on it
Of course... courtesy of Mr. Guthrie Govan. Check out his myriad other mind bending, face melting guitar solos all over youtube. Every one of his solos is a clinic.
I was listening to Bulls on Parade and then heard Dizzee's voice through my friend's stream playing Valorant, decided to listen to Dizzee Rascal and then learned for the first time he covered Bulls on Parade so now I'm here. Lmao - cosmically weird.
I seem to be the only one who likes the immigrant song vocal. I actually miss it when I listen to the original now, not as much as I miss guthries lead though.
I remember dizzee actually said somewhere before how he is actually a metalhead and listens to stuff like korn and slipknot and I think Metallica and wanted to do a cover of one of his songs with Marilyn manson. And i think he said how some of his songs/albums are inspired by a lot of rock and metal. "Just a rascal" and "fix up look sharp" are some of them i remember.
I have the pleasure and some pride in saying that I live with the music and especially rock, over 30 years and that few times I heard and saw gods walking on earth. Guthrie is the absolute god of the guitar and, although not 100% original, he presets any guitarist of the past and is unlikely to be achieved by any one in the present and future.
@JRBain7 Yeah, I still think of him as a fusion guitarist, despite he can do other styles. What I'd like to see, is a guitarist who would be impossible to categorize.
@kidkappa04 Agree on the EU, dont particularly see the point in it, but americas military budget out of GDP is 16.6% department of defence, 5% international operations, and 1.2% homeland security. If the states halved its budget there to 11.4%, that money could be spent on improving education and healthcare, as well as taxing, legalising and regulating all drugs so money can be saved in policing and freeing up jails too. IDMU calculated if britain did this, it'd gain £3.5-6.5b after costs.
@JRBain7 Wonder how a guitarist who did a track of a different genre on every album would be catagorized, like, Jason Becker's Perspectives album, I have no idea what it is.
@kidkappa04 I was almost considering moving to america too, to study then live permanently, sure I'll have to pay more as an international student, but that means I'm not in debt after paying fees up front. I think throwing Zeppelin into a RATM song was kinda clever, since they based their sound on Zep (hell, they even stole whole riffs).
