Check on your App settings. There should be an option on the Nexus App to open automatically once it detects the USB port of the controller. This update was meant for android, but Im sure they must've update it, since Iphones are now on usb type C. Let me know if it works.
Dolphin got its own button mapping in the application. I use this controller with Dolphin, but the presets for the mapping are saved in the App's control settings.
Is your Nexus App updated? Also remember, the games need to be open from the App, and you must give the games all the permissions needed. What phone do you have?

Is your phone repaired? Repaired phones have bluetooth issues, you can probably try reinstalling it and it should be fixed.
