One thing I want to point out that most people miss. At the beginning when Po is fighting the bandits, he does almost exactly what he was doing in his daydream at he beginning of the first film. He's made his dreams reality. Unlike many sequels, this film isn't going to redo what happened in the first move. Po's already living his dream. That isn't the story this time. Then at the end of the scene it immediately kicks off the new plot. Love those details.
And one other dream he made come true: He hangs out with the Furious Five! There's a lot of reasons this is my favourite movie in the franchise, but the chemistry between them and Po is in the top 3! They spend a lot of 1 resenting him, though the fact they each warm up to him at their own rates is a nice touch. And in 3, they spend a lot less time together due to plot.
Gary Oldman as the villain here was sooo unexpected but he was also CRACKED when it comes to his acting. Truly one of the GOATS Also, Dreamworks always hit the homerun when it comes to its sequels and this one was no different
Ping had said in the beginning first film that when he was younger he had a dream about running away and learning to make tofu. In the beginning and end of this movie Ping offers his customers tofu birthday cake and tofu desserts. Way to make your dreams come true
I love how Shen had like two opportunities to change his mind and he recognized that and still decided to go forward with his plan because no matter how he wished that things would've ended up differently between him and his parents, he felt like he went too far to turn back and that his parents hated him enough to abandon him at the drop of a hat. He's grasping at a want that died with his parents and that's when the soothsayer asked him if he would finally be satisfied, he said, that its a start. What he wants he can't attain and he feels like his happiness must be taken from the hearts of others to fill his. My fav villian
Theres something very emotionally poetic during Po's inner peace moment, the music, flashback transitions, a dive into a repressed memory being resurfaced for us audience to see what exactly caused Po's destiny to be set to become what he would eventually. The writers & animators sure knew what is needed to pull the heart strings of viewers.
Po not nerfed in this. An unparalleled villian. And expanding the story in a meaningful way. This movie is absolutely incredible and like I said I absolutely love this trilogy
Gary Oldman’s Shen will easily be one of the most charismatic and elegant villains to grace the screen even as an animated bird I read this somewhere but the interesting thing is Shen didn’t make up what he said at 21:58, he genuinely believed Po’s parents abandoned him like Shen’s parents did, but failed to understand that they did so to save him out of love, which was a concept Shen never understood
The moment Master Shifu said, “Poe the day you were chosen as The Dragon Warrior…..” I knew exactly what he was going to say and I still laughed out loud! 😂
I think the cannons can also be a metaphor for hate. Mostly because it's all Shen had been striving on for his 'justice' and he caused so much pain and anger to everyone around him. Po came to inner peace and turned his hurt and pain into something wonderful
@@Against_my_odds no he didnt. I think there's a difference between defeat and death. Po clearly defeated him. All of his weapons destroyed, his men gone, everything he worked hard for gone. Po even had a moment to knock him out during their talk. Shen couldn't understand how he managed to defeat him bc he saw himself as invincible. Shen accepted death however. Maybe it was pride or other.
The first time i saw this movie, i was in the hospital after a mental health episode. the inner peace scene still holds a special place in my mind. Shen it's such a great villain it not only mirrors Poo like an antagonist but also it's so enjoyable to watch Both share so much and Poo weakness (being a fat panda that everyone underestimated) mastering that it's what make him a hero meanwhile Shen strength (his weapons and greed ) it's what ended up killing him
Shen was being a great villain, up to the end, when he is facing a warrior that can deflect cannon balls bare handed, and decides to fight him. It's like he changed his drive for a death wish at that point. He could have flown away to return later with a better evil plan, but when he decides to battle Po to the death, there was only one way this could go.
It was him taking advantage of Po not attacking him. All he wanted was Po dead and you could tell that he didn't really care about living anymore. He accepted he had been beaten. You can especially see it when the canon is about to hit him. He just accepts his fate
My favorite part of this movie is that Shen himself was black and white. The prophecy was not about a panda. He destroyed himself with his endless greed and ambition. Even if he wiped out every last panda, he'd still fall eventually, because he was the warrior of black and white.
