  • France's Antoine Dupont has been labelled everything from the Greatest of All Time to overrated.
    There's not much he hasn't already achieved in his relatively short career, but will he achieve a Rugby World Cup or win an olympic gold medal to truly solidify his label as one of the GOATs.
    Hope you enjoy this video. All use of footage is completely transformed to suit alignment with the research essay / analysis and adheres to fair use. If any issues please make contact with me.
    As always thanks for watching! & please share with your rugby mates!

    The people in these countries are very biased about their rugby teams.Not to mention close minded .

    One player that is really underrated is Romain Ntamack. The only game I recall France losing while both where playing was against Wales in the QF in 2019, Scotland in 2020 when Ntamack got off injured, and Ireland in 2023 where Ireland where world beating at home while were France probably saving stuff for the world cup. Ntamack isn't Dupont in his skills, but his vision and communication abilities give Dupont the ability to be 100% himself whilst Ntamack can do the boring stuff. I really do think they would've at least won the QF had he been fit

    You talk about his head injury during the world cup: doctors said he could go back but would play with a tighter vision and more vulnerability because of the operation he went through. He put his career at risks, he could have played the hand on the brake and yet he was still impressive against the boks! No one can say he is overrated...

    I'm interested to see how France will play next year if they have Dupont, Ntamack and Le Garrec all available. They would have the option of bringing Le Garrec off the bench and shifting Dupont and Ntamack out one spot wider which, due to the unique French scrum half role, no other team can do. It would make a 6-2 split bench more flexible too.

    well...
    Getting a WC tittle depend A LOT on having the referee doing their job right in important matches. If they don't and in not doing so, negate your strong points, well, you would need to be so overwhelmingly stronger than the opponent that it's impossible. And lets face it, at the very top level, no national team is actually overwhelmingly superior. They each have their own niches they try to capitalize on... and if a referee don't do his job and say, let some players unlawfully slow the game vs a team used to play fast or... doesn't apply the rules to their full extend on the conversion kick (just a few examples), the result become way more dependent to the referee decisions than the players/team performances...
    and yeah... that make it 3 times that France was chafed in a crucial game...

  • @VagabondRugby

    The greats of any game can be determined by their impact upon a match. Dupont has that effect - even if he does nothing to make a highlights reel, he will increase France's chances of winning the game. Not only is he highly skilled and a phenomenal no9, but by simply being on the field he increases France's chance of victory by 22.5%! He lives up to the hype that surrounds him.

    Thank you for this coold headed video , Uggy. Reg. Antoine Dupont, 2 things come to my mind: 1° despite all the hype, he still seems to stay really authentic, down to earth AND humble. 2° Coming back to Jim Hamilton's interview of O'Gara, I remember very well that O'Gara did say that he had studies Dupont from evey possible angle so as to be able to reduce or at last block his influence on the pitch (in the La Rochelle vs Stade Toulousain games). And that, so far, he had not be able to do so! That in itself does say that Dupont plays in a league of his own.

    I'm from Argentina, so I'm absolutely neutral on this, it's a genuine question
    Why do people see Dupont as being a better player than Faf De Klerk?
    He doesn't do anything better than Faf and when I see both teams play Faf is way more influential and way better on defense

    • @08padam
      @08padam 5 месяцев назад +1

      Faf played for Sales for years and was never close to achieve anything remarkable with that team. Nobody was talking about him. Why ? Because he played with a shit team and doesn't have the influence to change anything. Springboks have by far the best pack in the world, so playing as a scrumhalf for them is much much easier than with other teams. The Springboks actually perform very well without faf... Comparing him to Dupont makes zero sense

    • @laurentdupasquier7872
      @laurentdupasquier7872 5 месяцев назад

      Have you had a chance to follow the TOP 14? Look I've been watching rugby for 50 years now and I've never ever seen it played like this, and not only in exceptional games or circumstances but day in and day out every time he plays for his club ST. And yes Faf is a very good scrum half but Dupond is not only (and by far) the best scrum half but the best rugby player in the world, a category that didn't really exist before, as it is difficult to compare apple and pears , until he came along. Neutral or no neutral do your research and you ll see there's now an overwhelming consensus (outside of France) on this issue.

    • @justaguy9681
      @justaguy9681 5 месяцев назад

      General concensus isn't necesarily truth, especially with social media, marketing and hype trains can influence people's perspective
      South Africa fares well without faf but the fact that his team is good and they have a really good 2nd Scrum Half doesn't take credit out of Faf as an individual player, he jukes people as hard as Dupont if not harder, and if you see them play you can compare them just as if you compared any other two players
      The main difference is Dupont is better with kicks and Faf is better on defense, and kicks are an attacking response so Dupont gets more shock value I guess
      But Faf always seemed to me like the better player at directing the game and being on top of the game as a whole while Dupont will just get the ball and run side to side on a whim looking for a hole on the defense like a ball hogger
