- We are moving to Ecuador. Join us on our Expat life in Ecuador. We love nature photography and this channel will focus not just on our new lives in Ecuador but also on us capturing this amazingly diverse country. Are you thinking of maybe moving abroad? Are you ready to move out of your comfort zone? Well maybe its time to "Live the Life you Love"
Excellent information Mike. Thanks. For the first time in my 4.5 years, Riobamba was even affected. There was a prison break here also and amongst the escapees was another particularly dangerous character. We have stayed home today hoping the dust will settle a bit. The people in Ecuador are peaceful and are fed up with these cartels. As far as I can tell, they support running them out of the country, whatever it takes.
Yes that is what I am sensing too. Thanks 🙏
From this informative posting and hearing from friends around Ecuador it appears that Naboa is doing the right thing and has the full support of the populous. Life has prevented me, over a number of years, from immigrating. I'll be finally making the move from the US this spring and unless things become untenable I will not be delayed again. Thank you and be safe.
Where are you moving to?
@@littletravelmonkey6727 At least temporarily to Vilcabamba, but finally probably Malacatos. I'll decide once I see what's available when I'm ready to settle. You?
Mike, I know there's some risk in keeping us informed. Thank you for doing it. I hope it doesn't negatively affect you. I have been concerned for all the expats that are living there and pray that no harm or nothing untoward happens to any expats in the country. Please, both of you, stay safe and take care. Enjoy what you can and when you can. Don't let them take that from you, but be wise. I know that you will. God bless.
Thanks for watching and your kind words. We do love it here and our forever home now. We are not going anywhere. This is coming to a head as it should.
Yes! Your candor is appreciated but, be careful!
Thank u for the update. Ecuador is handling everything quickly. This will blow over. I don't plan to let this sway me from considering Ecuador as my retirement home in the coming years. Stay safe. Sending u much love and support.
Thanks 👍. It's been wonderful for us here and even during these times we enjoy our new life here. Noboa is going all in so hopefully will make the country even better.
Handling it quickly? Those cartels are terrorizing the country for over 2 years now and every time it's worse.
Why do you think it will blow over soon? It took 40 years in Colombia, and is ongoing after 50 years in Mexico. Drug cartels don’t give up in a couple of years
@@brianhansen2202 Even the Ecuadorian National Police say that things will first get worse. Some expats simply don't want to hear it.
Thank you for the information Mike - stay aware stay safe - We're praying for Ecuador
Thanks 👍. It is a beautiful country with amazing people.
Please tell us that the "corrupt judge " (you mentioned) was or shall be arrested?! #intolerable
In places like Mexico, the corruption/situation is so bad that "the people/masses" need to take up/bare arms in order to take their country back/defend themselves. 😮
The judge has been suspended for now. More later. Thanks for watching.
Great information! The political unity around Noboa is encouraging.
Thanks 👍. Yes very surprised about Correa support.
@@KrisandMike Agreed! That says a lot.
I found this video titillating...thanks for finding interest from my former countr..Thanks,exciting video.
Thanks 👍
Thanks for the update. Stay safe.
Thanks 👍
Thank you so much for this excellent news
Hopefully it will last. Take care.
One big contributing factor is the closure of the US airbase in Ecuador by the outgoing president Correa. The airbase monitored the Colombian border and prevented all this stuff from happening…….
Yes that did not help the situation. Thanks for watching
Thank you for the update Mike, appreciate it
Thanks 👍
Thank you for the update, Mike. I have been waiting to hear from you guys with the recent events. Hopefully things will settle as I am due to land in Quito February 2nd for 3 weeks of travel. Cuenca and Manta area. You two be safe and I’ll be watching for updates.
Thanks, just keep watching the news and stay uptodate. Its important to find that right balance between not over reacting or under reacting to the situation . You will be happy to know that things were calm, almost normal today.
@@KrisandMike absolutely. I’ll see how this unfolds over the next couple weeks.
The Manta area is unsafe. It's the home base of the Los Choneros gang. Cuenca is relatively safe but prison guards are still held hostage in the local prison by the Los Lobos gang.
This will not sway my retirement plans ! Fuerza Ecuador!
We love it here. Watch how things unfold. Noboa seems to be very committed.
ecuador is a great place but lets not be delusional this should be a dealbreaker
@@techmedia1360clearly you have not followed what has happened since.
Thank you for this update. We have plans to visit your area in a month and will be following your posts regularly. Please take care of yourself and your wife. What a shame it is but there is nowhere without problems, eh?
Don.
Noboa has gone all in against the cartels so this may make a better longer term here. Things are very quiet today. We shall see. Thanks for watching and feel free to write privately if you have specific questions closer to your trip.
Excellent video. Thanks for the information.
Thanks 👍
Business as usual here in Manta. The beach was quiet today.
The problem is not only here in Ecuador. People seam to forget that the whole issue is market driven and the markets for the drugs are in the US, Canada, Europe and Asia. No market no gangs. Unfortunately, a drug free world is wishful thinking.
Yes a good quiet day today. Yes the western world is essentially the market for drugs. Do they have some responsibility for funding anti cartel operations? Perhaps. The USA does to some degree.
@@KrisandMikeare you saying no one in Ecuador or in the southern hemisphere uses drugs? Ahh. So there IS a market for drugs there.
@@user-jb2ks2cc4zThat is not what I said actually. The highest level of drug use is in the USA in the entire world followed by Canada and Europe. Ecuador is near the bottom. See the chart.
As soon as I heard what happened, I immediately logged on here to see how y’all were doing. If it is safe to do so, continue to give us updates on your safety.
Hey thanks 🙏. All good. A nice quiet day.
very useful, thanks
Thanks 👍
Kris and Mike thinking of you two and wishing you all the best.
Thanks 👍
Thanks for the update.
Thanks 👍
This is sad but the inevitable result of ignoring the problem for too long. Money buys influence and these cartels have been able to act with impunity for too long. I wish all Ecuadorans peace and prosperity. Stay safe.
Agreed. Finally it looks like the whole country is aligned, at least for now. In dealing with this.
Great video with actual information!
Thanks 👍
Stay safe
Thanks 🙏
It's Fito, not Tito
Yes I realized after uploading to RUclips. It sucks getting old. Take care.
@@KrisandMike No worries, enjoyed the video all the same
Abrazos vecinos
Hugs back 🙏
I was thinking to go to Ecuador 😮but now I have to think it twice 😢
Things continue to get better. Thanks for watching
I recentrly watched a german documentary that shows how little school kids are captured in Duran, under the theat of killing their families if they dont join the gangs, devastating to see.
It's a mix of El Salvador and Mexico, but the ecuadorian police, judges and politicians are all part of the problem. People say that what's happening now is due to desperation from the cartels side, but i doubt it, i think it's just a display of power, we need external help.
Those gangs give the kids everything they need, clothing, food, money, even churches... It's hard to take them out of that "safe" enviroment.
If anyone tells you "with Correa things were better", slap him in the face and show him old videos from Correa giving resources and "good press" to Latin Kings and other gangs, he even put a representative from the Latin Kings in Congress or Parliment i think... Now they claim that they are not just a gang, they are the mafia, great!.
Take care, all the best.
Thanks for your comment. Yes it's a complex problem that needs to be addressed.
please stay safe!!
Thanks 🙏
If i was a foreigner living in Ecuador i definitely wouldn't be reporting on the cartels and criminal networks. Fck dat stay safe
I get that. You sound like my oldest brother. A couple things. I only report what has already been reported on. Just the facts to help mostly other expats to know what's going on. Also if I was risk averse I wouldn't have left Canada and just had the best year of my life.
Bukele has saved El Salvador.
👍
Thanks a lot for sharing!!
I have no intension of not coming to Ecuador as planned and, I still.look very much forward - simply because I believe this will end soon - in fact, I think the Ecuadorian president is working hard to get the cartels out and, I think we need to start looking at exactly where this really comes from....😪
Take care . Thanks 🙏
You hope that this will end soon, but history tells that it won't. Just look at how long it took Colombia to solve the most severe problems with the cartels. Ecuador is only in the beginning stage of solving the problems.
@@lvovodessa True but, Ecuador doesn't have to do what Colombia and others have done and hopefully, a more positive and human result comes from Ecuador..
@@Jetmab04 Let's hope so.
This seems very coordinated - especially since different cartels are involved. I don't expect them to actually work together. This implies some over-arching control or input by a "major" cartel. Especially with the infiltration / corruption of the prisons, police, politicians, judges, etc. Everyone has a price - and good people can be either bought or coerced (by threats to family). I'm really hoping the AG and the president are well protected - and that they continue to root out the corruption and push back against this bullying. My flight this week was cancelled due the issues with the Boeing 737 aircraft, so I will now be in Manta on Sunday.
We have had a quiet day today across the country. Have a safe enjoyable trip.
There are two main cartels active in Ecuador CJNG and CDS. The local gangs work for one of these Mexican cartels.
That makes perfect sense. Thank you for the clarification
@@lvovodessa
The embassy in Quito and consulate in Guayaquil of my country are closed, I am not American nor European. Stay safe.❤
Things are pretty quiet now. Businesses are now open as normal. May next last.
I'd ask what its all about but if i find myself in Ecuador I'll need to sort it out.
The first update has the background.
Have there been more frequent power outages since last weekends outbreak of violence? Some of the European news outlets have reported that airlines are cancelling flights. But I haven't been able to confirm. Is there any such news on your end?
We had a power outage this morning. But just the normal pole was down. Fixed in a few hours. Airports are open. Flights might be cancelled as lack of passengers because of the news from a couple days ago. Things are almost back to normal. I would feel safe flying here now. I will do another video this afternoon or tomorrow.
This is sad 😢
Sometimes it needs to get bad before the right things get done to fix the problem.
Short term solution to a long problem that was fueled by the United States of America. If jails in the south follow the US jail system which is only punishment and no rehabilitation there will also be high recidivism rates in the rest of the America's.
I don't think anywhere has solved this problem.
Well done. Did I miss the mention of Captain Pico, the Los Lobos leader who also escaped? I think this really is the path to making Ecuador unattractive to the Cartels, leaving the gangs to fend for themselves and be consumed.
I tried to keep the video on the short side so left a few things out. Thanks for watching
Time for a little vacation to Canada kids
Lol not a chance 😂
UMMMM if I were you I would NOT be showing my face talking about this stuff especially if you are there. IJS
Thanks for your concern. I just talked about the facts that are being reported broadly not giving my opinions on the topic.
Mike, thanks for the info. I decided to delay my trip, which was starting 1/24. Please stay safe!
Thanks. This is for the best I think. It's coming to a head now.
How is this not being reported in the USA?!?!
Best international reporting is BBC and Reuters.
Isn't it dangerous for you to upload these kinds of videos?
Maybe a tiny bit but all my info is what is already available. Thanks for your concern.
Mexico Ecuador no different
Very similar right now.
Sounds as if it could be the very same people/families - like in Europe.
Just saw a YT video the other day - about the 10 most risky European countries now (2024) and "surprisingly" this is the old colonials...so, so sad 😰
Thanks for the update. Stay safe.
Thanks 👍
