You just dissected my keyboard addiction and I don’t know how to feel about it. On one hand, this was a super thoughtful and intellectual deep dive into what drives the community as well as what drives us as individuals to justify spending the insane amount of money that we do on keyboards. Very interesting. Ngl, for some people this “hobby” borders on the boundaries of an addiction, myself included. Hell, I just picked up a matrix Corsa a couple months ago and by the time I got extra pcb’s and custom cf plates and custom foam plus switches stabs and keycaps I’m easily 900-1000 in on it. And I’m already planning my next build. Gonna do a Venom 60HE build with the snake r2 for competitive fps gaming. That one’s gonna run me another 600 at least. To most normal people that’s absolutely insane to be spending on a keyboard. And yet many of us in the community have no problem justifying it. This really is a truly interesting hobby filled with interesting people.
For me, like how I explained it in the video, it taught me to reflect and think about the things that influenced me to purchase a keyboard. It's really more like looking into the mirror and understanding whether a purchase is on impulse or not, and how to regulate my spending better!
@ Oh I actually really enjoyed it too. It’s not what we all wanted to hear, it’s what we needed to hear. The video was very well done man. Like I’m super impressed. It definitely challenged me to think more about my keyboard buying habits. Amazing video man!
Oh yeah if you are referring to the figure I used for bulk of my video, it’s in the article I linked in the description. Unfortunately it’s not open access.. i don’t specialize in psychology nor sociology so, I most definitely can’t come up with that figure myself 😅
super interesting and thoughtful discussion, certainly the appeal of custom mechanical keyboards are more than the sum of their parts!
