It speaks volume to me that he never rested Patrick Queen (the defender who had the most snaps closely followed by Minkah), teams learned how to nullify Watt and they never adjusted nor took advantage of it and how they continued to try runs with Najee that never worked. In an age of analytics he continues to play it from the heart and acting all macho. I for one am tired of how the media inflates Tomlin as such a great coach. Chuck Knoll had a 4 year spell in between playoff wins. Bill Cowher had a 3 year spell in between playoff wins. Tomlin is now staring down 8 years without a playoff win. I can't even credit him for the SB win in 2008. That team was built by Cowher, and still retained many of the Cowher tenured coaches and staff. So Mediocre Mike inherited a winning team and formula. And if it weren't for some breakdowns in defensive coverage on the last drive, and some spectacular plays by Santonio Holmes and Big Ben, they would have lost that game too. Tomlin ain't the guy. Never will be.
Complete nonsense. There were about 40 different players and staff from Cowhers SB, and Tomlins SB teams. Including I may add ken whisenhunt, who was Cowhers OC, and went to be the HC that Tomlin played against in 43. And also, I remember Nolls 80's Steelers,...... The two have the same w/l record 1-1, no matter how many playoff games were or were not won. They also have about the same win% @.619 -.618.
100%. His career is only impressive at face value. The more you look at it the less impressive it becomes. I really don't understand why the media has such a hard on for him.
I didn't realize that Tomlin has only won a playoff game in 4 of his 18 seasons. That's pretty abysmal considering Cowher matched that by his 6th year.
The Eagles and Reid both got better when they went their separate ways.... Not sure the Steelers nor Tomlin are worthy of that comparison right now, but the solution likely still fits.
Of course they should move on. What happens if they don’t? Does Tomlin all of a sudden become a good manager? Does Wilson Magically get 10 years younger? When that bus isn’t going to take you to your destination, you get on a different bus.
Steelers ownership doesn't spend a lot of money on their players. Now occasionally ownership will spend money on lesser players to make sure they have a winning product on the field. So the Steelers are not the cheapest owners in the NFL. That title goes to Jerry Jones and the Dallas Cowboys. That why Bookie's in Las Vegas where telling me Dallas last year and year before that they had no chance of winning the Super Bowl.
It’s painful reading braindead yinzer comments about Tomlin. I have my issues with him but there are so many spoiled brats in Pittsburgh that don’t understand how good they have it.
If he’s a good defensive coach then spend less money on defense and make him overachieve with less instead of underachieve with the highest paid defense in the league. Spend that money on offense and let Tomlin prove he’s actually good on his side of the ball. Otherwise he’s just a good public speaker
Maybe in the short term, but if he’s retained, the draft next year would need to be QB focused to an extent. We need a permanent fixture, the next Big Ben, so to speak. Our woes don’t go away otherwise.

It's bad enough the Steelers have a contract and decided to bring back Mike Tomlin, but to bring back a 6-6 qb who is washed and 36 years old to a team he personally led to a late season collapse. Its no way the Steelers should bring him back not at all. Resign Justin Fields
Tomlin's problem has always been he's too good of a coach to ever land you an elite QB talent. You're stuck with low-end rookie prospects at the tail end of the first round EVERY year or some castaway chump who's either washed or soon-to-be washed. CRAZY how good Pitt was considering Tomlin was working with an old, rigid, slow Russ and a RB who moonlights as a QB at backup. He should leave and let the Steelers crumble into irrelevancy. Hope he gets an elite talent QB cause he's got a few more Super Bowls in him.
Can Fields stop 95,90 and 85 yard TD drives? Remember when Russ fumbled on the 4? The defense then gave up a 96 yard TD drive. Fans didn’t blame the defense they blamed Russell Wilson? Get ready for that Justin. Your team could give up 299 yards rushing, they’ll want YOU gone.
Tomlin said the QB for this season was on the roster at the end of last season and they ended up cleaning the entire QB room out. I wouldn't take anything said in these end of year press conferences as gospel
@michaelr3583 Yeah, that's true. How Kenny felt he was above reproach when he threw 13TDs and 13INTs in 2 years is something I'll never understand. KP is a backup and was lucky he came out in the draft in one of the worst QB drafts of the last 10-20 years. But also, at the same time, things can change so fast in the NFL that I wouldn't take anything said in a press conference as law🫡✌️
The issue is the quarterback situation. I would had stayed with Fields mainly to see if he could be either the answer or short term solution at quarterback. Wilson is a nice guy, but his speed was the difference maker when he was younger, but he has lost a step. Another issue is holds the ball too long trying to find the big play. Russ still can throw a great deep ball, but it leads sacks which kills drives.
What they should have done was trade for Bryce Young while his value was low, you get a #1 overall pick in a sense and build around BY... Not to say, Carolina would have traded him, but it would have been a shot at least to give the organization something to root for and build around..
Jemis Winston beat us with circus type plays. Lamar just turned our defense into a benny hill soundtrack twice. Patty Mahomes ran circles around our pass rushers while injured on 1 foot. Jalen hurts was doing the shimmy dance around our defense to that blowout win. Lol its almost like you should just play the athletic playmaking type QB and see if he can make magic. But instead we let Wilson put on his best Kenny Pickett impersonation. Spin Sack, Spin Sack, Spin sack🤣
You wear your defense out when you constantly go 3 and out. Our offense over the years hasn’t helped the defense out at all. It’s a team sport. The defense gets stops and turnovers but the offense does nothing with it.
@@chrisburnett8167this is more so the answer. Defense was bad given the circumstances, but the offense was worse. Defense may be more troubling though. More star power and a whole lot more money
The QB situation is such a no-brainer. Fields got to watch Russ manage an offense for the majority of the season. When there's no way they get a franchise guy in this coming draft, why not roll the dice with fields next year? Draft a serious RB, fix the offensive line and consider bringing in a better OC. If he's bad, great. Better chance of drafting the right guy next time around. But if he's improved you can have a dynamic and athletic QB and be ahead of it.
Over and over and over again, someone is congratulating Tomlin on his winning seasons. Except every year we're sitting on the couch with the Browns watching other teams go forward. In his 18-year carrier with the Steelers, his record is dismal to say the least. And it isn't like he hasn't had the talent. How many of our players have gone to the pro-bowl year after year? Every year coaches come and coaches go and nothing changes. So what's the common thread in this mediocrity, Tomlin. Thus guy should have been fired years ago. So what does he have on Rooney,? It has to be something good because no owner is this stupid to keep a guy like Tomlin. Especially after a failure like this year was.
Fields had more than 40 yards passing in an entire first half and he certainly didn't throw pick sixes like what happened against hte Ravens, and he wasn't throwing into triple coverage on 4th and 15 either.
Bills fan here. No horse in the race. The Steelers should not let Tomlin go. He is an elite coach. Gets a LOT out of his players. Every year, they are a competitive team. Very very hard to do in today’s NFL, especially without a legit game changing QB.
They aren’t competitive. 9-10 wins a year and getting blown out in the playoffs isn’t competitive nor is it getting a “LOT” out of his players. Stop simping for Tomlin.
Sounds like you’re parroting espn. Tomlin sucks. And what do you mean no horse in the race? That doesn’t even make sense. We’re both in the AFC and the Steelers absolutely matter to you in the post season…..which is probably why you’d like to see that clown coach for 20 more years.
@@GGCGAGSG Why does Omar Khan get a pass for blowing nuts at his job? This roster is horrible, and every year I have to listen to media go the Steelers roster so good they have x and x. One good unit isn't a good roster, it's insane that this roster could win 6 games let alone 10.
As a Redskins fan. Tomlin does not suck lol. Steelers fans....how many coaches have you had since the 70s ? How many of those coaches have taken you to super bowls? From what I recall....Steelers wanted Bill Cower out before he final won a super bowl. Tomlin has not had a losing season since when ? I recall people saying even earlier this year that " this might be his year to have a losing record ". That did not happen lol. In a division that has Lamar and Joe. Also...in a division that ...you could say....all of them are good/decent head coachs. Tomlin still finds a way to win. Phil said the same things about Reid....that I hear about Tomlin. He" sucks,he is no good, and stop making excuses for him" ....How is Reid doing now ? Steelers fans....be great full you have good ownership and a great coach. Less your ownership be Dan Synder and you keep hearing "the culture is dam good". With many coachs that sucked badly.
Tomlin nailed it when he said, “words are hollow”. He always finds the right words and can turn a phrase better than anyone. I am more upset about missed opportunities from years back with the killer B’s and good to great defenses we had. This team is not as talented. Not even close.
Tomlin is the coach for the Steelers. Fields would be the guy to bring back while drafting someone to possibly develop such as Will Howard if Fields don't work out, just my opinion
Fields just has the ability to be consistent in a way Russ just can't be. He won't score as many points, sure, but he's gonna keep the steelers offense on the field and give our defense a rest.
I’d say get rid of all the coaches and make fields the starting qb find a star wr to put on the opposite side of Pickens and get some better offensive linemen we got nothing to lose with getting rid of all coaching staff and starting fresh
Tomlin’s model sucks, watching a Tomlin playbook executed is as pleasurable as watching a dog poop for 3 hours. His sustainably mediocre performance ensues a lousy draft position every year, and his playoff performance is an embarrassment to the franchise and the city. The team hasn’t been good since Arians was running the offense and LeBeau was running the defense. Let’s find a new Cowher to run the team.
They arent competitive. They barely made the playoffs. Thats middle of the pack in a 32 team league. He has been overrated for years. If you go see them they will probably entertain the hone crowd but thats as good as it gets.
Pittsburgh DON'T want ( Sam Darnold ) 🤔 Only Reason DARNOLD had a GOOD year is Bcuz he had ( Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison ) ... DARNOLD was almost out of the League
You still need to throw them the ball. DHop and Josh Gordon weren't exactly magical answers for the clown show of QB's they went through(TJ Yates, Tim Savage, Osweiler, Weeden, Schaub, etc)
Rooney's expecting a Michelin Star Gourmet dinner on a public assistance budget... Tomlin has done far better than anyone else could have with what's in the pantry .
Yes...QB play wasnt the problem Yes..Coach Tomlin will be back..funny nobody predicted the Steelers to win 4-5 games. They made the playoffs...Almost won the division
Let’s go about this intelligently. Keep Russ at least another year. Russ showed the flaws in the offense (O-line and receivers). He didn’t play bad except for when he’s trying to be a hero because nobody’s open. Fields’ athleticism has a higher probability of hiding the flaws in the offense because he’s better at avoiding sacks. His leadership and overall football IQ needs to improve. Russ has that right now.

Russell Wilson can still play at an elite so the Steelers need to sign him to a contract as a starter 😎
What’s the saying about doing things the same way over and over and expecting different results?
Why are you talking QB here? QB talent is not the issue. The issue is the lack of talent surrounding the QB and the Tomlin philosophy of how a offense should be run.
QB is absolutely one of the big issues. What are you talking about??
@@broadnerdmike6450 It' only a big issue if you think Wilson is over the hill or Fields is backup guy. To run the scheme properly they need better personnel around the QB. Yea let's try Rodgers now, lol
Dude I’m sorry but QB is a MAJOR issue, you can’t ignore it man. You can have faith in Russ and I did too! I LOVED him and Seattle, he’s just not the same player man happens to the best of em, we need a Manning
@@JackSlatersPontiac I don't have faith in anyone in Tomlin's risk adverse scheme. Who do you want then? Fields? A dice roll at best and more likely another wasted year. Bring in Rodgers and put him behind this O line? How about Geno? All of these guys can't pull up a poor offense without talent around them.
He hasn't realized that by the end of the year the other teams are fresher, have a ton of data about the Steelers and are exploiting it.
If I had a job where I could fail EVERY YEAR, and face ZERO consequences, and continue to get raises, I wouldn't want out either.
Some of his players CONSISTENTLY take plays off (while on the field), ans nothing changes.
Why would Tomlin want to go to a team that expects him to actually coach?
Tomlin's ego is bigger than the Empire State.. In his mind, leaving the Steelers would be like a failure to him. Sometimes change is good.
The problem is we still prioritze defense to the point we have the highest paid defenese in the NFL, that style doesnt work anymore we need to focus on the other side
Highest paid defense, and yet when the playoffs hit, TJ and Minkah turn into ghosts.
Especially in the AFC... You need a QB to even compete within your division (Joe Borrow, Lamar) let alone the conference. Has long they keep "Surviving", they're going to be stuck in the mud.
Really? I think the bigger issue is that the defense is the priority and it's still fucking garbage.
@Larry_Suave thanks for rewording exactly what I said and acted like you made a new point 🤦♂️
@ My point was the defense is the priority and it's not even working.
As a Steelers fan, That college job and booster check 3 years ago looking really good now 😂😂😂
As a Ravens fan, I'd love to see Tomlin go but he isn't going anywhere.

Of course you’d love to see him go!
😂 facts. If he does please go to another division 😂
Stop lying. As long as Tomlin is here we pose absolutely no threat to anybody outside of meaningless October games.
@@mrhyde2484 he's probably the only thing keeping them from entering the basement if we're being honest
Shhhh. Quit telling everyone how little you understand football.
It’s funny not even his staunchest supporters can tell you what it is that he does well. His biggest attribute as a coach is we like him lol
Fire Tomline, hire Ben Johnson, run it back with Fields.
I'm pretty much a comfort seeker.
Good one😅
The Eagles and Reid both got better when they went their separate ways.... Not sure the Steelers nor Tomlin are worthy of that comparison right now, but the solution likely still fits.
I am pretty sure George Pickens does not understand what optimistic means.
I'm pretty sure there's a lot of things George Pickens doesn't understand.
You can see growth and not be optimistic for the future. It’s not hard to comprehend.
Of course they should move on. What happens if they don’t? Does Tomlin all of a sudden become a good manager? Does Wilson Magically get 10 years younger? When that bus isn’t going to take you to your destination, you get on a different bus.
Lol exactly
Tomilin seems to enjoy the "urgency" too much...
The only people saying Mike T should leave Pittsburgh is Wypipo in the Media.
Tomlin knows he will never be fired, 8 years without competing in the playoffs.
Steelers need receivers. Relying on one didn't cut it.
You are correct, he isn't going anywhere, and neither are the Steelers.
MOVE ON!!!! Tomlin needs a fresh start and so do we! If he stays it’ll just be more of the same.
It’s painful reading braindead yinzer comments about Tomlin. I have my issues with him but there are so many spoiled brats in Pittsburgh that don’t understand how good they have it.
Like any other fan I want to win and we don't with Tomlin
If he’s a good defensive coach then spend less money on defense and make him overachieve with less instead of underachieve with the highest paid defense in the league. Spend that money on offense and let Tomlin prove he’s actually good on his side of the ball. Otherwise he’s just a good public speaker
Maybe in the short term, but if he’s retained, the draft next year would need to be QB focused to an extent. We need a permanent fixture, the next Big Ben, so to speak. Our woes don’t go away otherwise.

COACH T IS THE MAN F THE HATERS LOVE YOU MIKE
If you like losers
@@xx1CRU he couldn't predict kenny pickett would be such a crying little baby hands abiut them signing russell wilson
Only if they wanna go 10-7 and get knocked out in the wild card round.
the media really has no idea on the temperature of what questions they ask.......nothing new
What they should have done was trade for Bryce Young while his value was low, you get a #1 overall pick in a sense and build around BY... Not to say, Carolina would have traded him, but it would have been a shot at least to give the organization something to root for and build around..
He's said the same thing every year
Have too move on from one most definitely 3
When did he learn to brag about how much he’s compensated???
It's not Russ fault that they lost 5 games.......Defense lost the last 5 games. Zero time for Offense to do something.
If Wilson is the answer, you’re asking the wrong question.
That’s playoff Russell since 2015!!
We do not want russ back at QB or tomlin at Coach 🤦
As a ravens fan, the only smart move is to get rid of Tomlin, trade watt and Fitzpatrick for the #1 overall pick and draft Jaxson Dart 👀👀
Tomlin would be an amazing analyst. But he STINKS as a coach.
Bills fan here. No horse in the race. The Steelers should not let Tomlin go. He is an elite coach. Gets a LOT out of his players. Every year, they are a competitive team. Very very hard to do in today’s NFL, especially without a legit game changing QB.
Tired of Tomlin getting a pass for not having a great QB as if he is not part of the group that has chosen the QBs post Big Ben
Damn. I love Mike Tomlin. Probably one of my favorite humans I don’t personally know.
Please take him away from the Steelers
If Steeler nation voted, he would be gone in a huge landslide
Tomlin nailed it when he said, “words are hollow”. He always finds the right words and can turn a phrase better than anyone. I am more upset about missed opportunities from years back with the killer B’s and good to great defenses we had. This team is not as talented. Not even close.
If only he could turn a team around like he can turn a phrase around
Tomlin is the coach for the Steelers. Fields would be the guy to bring back while drafting someone to possibly develop such as Will Howard if Fields don't work out, just my opinion
And we will keep losing
if it's not justin fields next year, the levels of incompetence are immeasurable in that organization.
Fields just has the ability to be consistent in a way Russ just can't be. He won't score as many points, sure, but he's gonna keep the steelers offense on the field and give our defense a rest.
Speaking as an unfortunate Jets fan we would commit so many unspeakable crimes to have a coach that has anywhere near a career record Mike T has.
You’ll regret it
Please do. You'll get tired of it, too.
Take him...he's yours
If you keep tomlin at least get a OC who can adapt to the times. Move up in draft if needed and get a franchise qb
Just give it another try!
😂😂😂 yeah we've been losers this long why not
No Fields will be no 1 for steelers next year.I THINK they they should have left Fiels in and sounds like Fields will be but who knows.
I’d say get rid of all the coaches and make fields the starting qb find a star wr to put on the opposite side of Pickens and get some better offensive linemen we got nothing to lose with getting rid of all coaching staff and starting fresh
I don't know what more people want Russ to do. Yeah he can't escape as well as he use to. But Justin would've made 10% of the throws Russ did.
Tomlin is stuck in his ways. Completely stuck, and doesn't want change. Get off his lawn you punk kids !!
We are the PLAY IT SAFE franchise. Look how long it took to get rid of Canada. Even when the player didn’t want him.
All he has is words.
love coach Tomlin
Take him please
Yes Russ. DEFINITELY no tomlin. GET HIM OUT.
Here's a question put Derek, Henry on Pittsburgh, and does he get all yards he gets with baltimore. The answer is no.
Wrong premise
Yes
Steelers fans are just over it..done.
Rooney's expecting a Michelin Star Gourmet dinner on a public assistance budget... Tomlin has done far better than anyone else could have with what's in the pantry .
Um...nope
Yes...QB play wasnt the problem
Yes..Coach Tomlin will be back..funny nobody predicted the Steelers to win 4-5 games. They made the playoffs...Almost won the division
We were over achievers
Yes.
“We do not care.”
