People that suspect coyotes live in their area should start killing coyotes. Can't shoot a gun in the city? A crossbow is just as effective. Follow the coyote to it's den and take them all out. Why? Coyotes not only attack pets, but they can also attack small children. Coyotes carry diseases which can infect other canines. And out in the country, they reduce the deer and turkey populations as well as attack domesticated animals (cattle, horses, sheep, chickens) Besides that, in many areas they have grown in such numbers that the states even allow hunting them 24/7, 365 as well as even offering rewards for their hides.
Coyotes are everywhere, I have seen the same pack moving at night across two different cities. Just because we paved some roads and built some houses doesn't mean nature is going to care or stay out.

You for your info cats don't have an effect at all on native bird populations. I run a cat sanctuary. Thd only birds they ever get are the wounded dying dove my neighbor shoots and they escape over onto my ranch. We have coyote proof fencing.

Maybe you cats don't hunt because they are city cats or grandma's cat or lazy and too well feed, maybe declawed but trust me both my grandfathers had big barn cats and they were rulers of the area and surrounding woods. I now live in a large Latin city and the rats run right by mating cats and sleeping cats like a freeway.

I love cats although I am a dog person, however house cats are one of the most invasive species ever imported into the United States. We do not normally hunt Coyotes unless they become a nuisance in a certain area. Or a farmer/rancher may need to cull the group. Coyote in town needs a lead insertion event. In the wild, he has the right to live and hunt, but, not in my neighborhood. I don't shoot or kill animals in the wild but if wild predators enter my zone, I remove them.
I live in the country on a Ranch and deal with coyotes all the time. I have coyote proof fencing. I trap them and remove them and have physically confronted them with a cat in the mouth. They dropped the cat with only minor injuries. So whomever said I must be a city person you are wrong. Yes our cats are well fed but I do not feed them so coyotes can eat them. Have only had to kill one coyote and the rest are trapped and removed. So please don't give me lectures on how cats kill so many birds. My cats seem to concentrate on the fat rats even when there are plenty of birds cleaning up feed from the horse's grain on the ground that make easy pickens for the cats. I just LOVE how people assume cats are bad for the environment and really know nothing about cats. Then assume since I defend them that I must be a city person. @@robtans5042 still have no idea what you are talking about do you. My wife raises Persian cats we sell very high and you can't afford. We do not normally hunt Coyotes unless they become a nuisance in a certain area. Or a farmer/rancher may need to cull the group. However I wish we could do the same to some of the city animals that mess their own nest and mate with their own gender. Kind of culling the herd of sickness if you will.

Coyote in town needs a lead insertion event. In the wild, he has the right to live and hunt, but, not in my neighborhood. I don't shoot or kill animals in the wild but if wild predators enter my zone, I remove them.

I live in the country on a Ranch and deal with coyotes all the time. I have coyote proof fencing. I trap them and remove them and have physically confronted them with a cat in the mouth. They dropped the cat with only minor injuries. So whomever said I must be a city person you are wrong. Yes our cats are well fed but I do not feed them so coyotes can eat them. Have only had to kill one coyote and the rest are trapped and removed. So please don't give me lectures on how cats kill so many birds. My cats seem to concentrate on the fat rats even when there are plenty of birds cleaning up feed from the horse's grain on the ground that make easy pickens for the cats. I just LOVE how people assume cats are bad for the environment and really know nothing about cats. Then assume since I defend them that I must be a city person. Nope, a rancher that knows why she likes animals better than people!! I also believe in live and let live so I don't just kill predators either.
