Haha there's some serious foreshadowing in this episode. Emma, a dead-pan producer, having a go at Steve's looks, and Ricky saying "Look at his little face!", not to Karl but to Steve.
Talking of foreshadowing.. "Alright, Gervais, let's talk about my TV idea".. "Ok, lets do All Around the World, 'cos it's probably gonna be big all around the world, isn't it?"

Ricky’s story about being drunk in a white tracksuit putting chapstick on his eyelids to cool himself down is my favourite pre-Karl XFM moment.
Gervais should quit that After Life and make Jezzoc.
Also the way he sings 'Push the little Daisies' is -- even for Ricky -- still one of the most irritating noises I've ever heard from him.
Man Moth (firstly, one of the most hilarious 'Karl responses' ever) I just wanted to say a massive thank you ! For years I'd assumed that I'd heard everything from Ricky and Steve.....and then there was Year Zero!

These uploads of Series 0 compilations are all the same clips. It went from one video to the next playing the same clips over and over. I thought I was going mental. 😅
Why do all these tapes contain the same bits but in different orders? I don't understand how this even happens, surely if you wanna record the show you just press record at the start and record the whole thing? Why is it in bits and with some bits seemingly out of order (referencing things that happen later in the tape)? It's the most mind-boggling thing, trying to listen to these and hearing the same bits said over and over again with random new nuggets in the middle

Thanks for clarifying that was happening. Start suspecting a carbon monoxide leak in my house but apparently these season 0 videos have been cut to simply simulate the sense of carbon monoxide poisoning.

These all seem to have 70% of the same bits. Is there anywhere I can watch them in order without them repeating themselves?
No, series 0 is a bit of a mess. It's essentially s collection of clips on some old tapes. The edits are rough but these are the best versions available. The repeats are annoying I agree but I didn't want to change them from their original formate. Sorry, but this is all we have from this time period.

I'm trying to find a part in series 0 where Steve talks about a present that his dad bought him, and it was an audiobook of war stories. And his dad says something like "son, never forget" and it was a really hilarious short story that he shares. Do you know what I'm talking about? Or am I just remembering it wrong? I'm like 90% sure it was before Karl came along.

Did Steve really not know that Night Court was already a show? It was really popular and considered a classic in the US. It was a comedy, though.
Oh also, tbf, u have to remember that for people around my age, up until the late 80s - 90s I think, we only had 3-5 regular t.v. channels without cable or satellite in the UK. Where as you guys in the US had 13 since the 70s right? And most of the good shows were on late night and I guess only kids from dysfunctional homes got away with staying up late idk?! Lol.
@@jodiegordon5559 Naw, we only had three stations until 80's, if I'm not mistaken. Maybe a fourth. Not like you think at all. We had similar situations, but I don't imagine our US shows made it over there in syndication until around the time these radio shows were on. I'd be surprised if it even aired. Good point about the good shows only being on at late, though, haha!
@@justinkline8437 oh no, we actually got a lot of American shows over here! I remember night court being on! We would get all sorts of weird n wonderful shows late late night. It's funny, I always thought there were 13 channels in the U.S. in the 70s? But that might be because of the Pink Floyd line "I got 13 channels of shit on the t.v. to choose from..." which was recorded in the 70s Lol!
@@jodiegordon5559 Ha. No, unless I'm mistaken, cable didn't come around until the 90's. Before then, it was just the three networks, plus maybe another one (like Fox). That's great you got Night Court. That's why I'm surprised Steve hadn't heard of it! Pink Floyd was a British band, so they'd be talking about over there.

I've done the research, asked some old's and reached back into the recesses of my memory, so check it out.... in NYC in the 80s there were 7 free terrestrial tv channels but they were numbered 2-13 and some of them just didn't work only channels 2, 4, 5, 7, 9, 11, 13. And cable was def up n running with a vengence! I def remember watching those channels and cable because of MTV. (My dad's lived in America since the 80s n I used to visit. But our 1st trip was in '79 when I was 4yrs and there was even cable then!) Ok infact cable was originally around since 1948! But not that popular. It had about 2.5 thousand subscribers in the whole of America between 60s n 70s then it really took off in the 80s and continued to what it is now. When Roger Walters of Pink Floyd wrote that line in '78 it was from the semi autobiographical album 'The Wall' and is partially about a Rock Star going through "Rock Star stuff" and touring in America, so def referring to American TV but seeing as it was mostly the wealthy that had cable in the 70s, he could be referring to the 13 channels on cable? (Haha how did we even end up down this road?!) But back to Steve, I think he's roughly the same age as me, but he's not from central London. He's from a more rural part of England called the West country. So not sure what they were getting on TV in the 80s or if he was allowed to stay up late enough to see all the American shows they put on late night. Sometimes it would be just random episodes midweek?! So it's quite possible he might just have missed night court? Where as Ricky was slightly more central n closer to London n in a less conservative working class family n also being the youngest, I imagine he was babysat more by the TV. Phew! 😆

I think in these early ones they're trying too hard to sound shit. They get the balance right in the next series of not trying to so hard and it becomes natural and brilliant - but for me, these series 0 are painfully bad. Also annoying that Steve keeps calling Ricky "Gervais". Not sure if anyone agrees?
