- Gyanendra Shah (Nepali: ज्ञानेन्द्र शाह) is a former monarch who was the last King of Nepal, reigning from 2001 to 2008. As a child, he was briefly king from 1950 to 1951, when his grandfather, Tribhuvan, took political asylum in India with the rest of his family. His second reign began after the 2001 Nepalese royal massacre. Gyanendra Shah is the first person in the history of Nepal to be king twice and also the last king of the Shah dynasty of Nepal.
After monarchy was overthrown, EX-King Gyanendra left the palace giving a heart touching speech. He was supposed to leave the country. But he didn't do so. He is currently living in Jhapa and seen sometimes making public appearances. He doesn't deliver speech or give interview these days. few years back, he attended interview with Prem Baniya where he spoke why he left the throne so easily.

Am I am here in Nepal with uncertain future and doing job which don't even pays minimum salary declared from Country .
And there was a time my parents used to tell about the increased price of vegetables and rice.
And now same I am realizing.
Pay the rent ,college fee and food for me and my old parents .
Its mid night I am totally frusted and depressed.
Sad to say but this nation is a total failure.
For poor people like me ,it didn't matters if there is Rule of King or Political party .
We just want more opportunities, empowerment.
Affordable goods and services .
If I could have to afford to fly abroad ,I would never return to this country..

bro, you are right. all this "raja lau, desh bachau" is just a distraction from real issues that people face. raja was all powerful during panchayat, and during the sankat kal era. but khai ta, country wasn't a shining example of prosperity. those who say "raja lau, desh bachau", they should be able to answer how raja is going to bring development and prosperity to the country. they never ever address this. at least with the current political system, we have the option of voicing our concern in the parliament locally as well as federally. we also have the option of voting people out of office and participating in the politics. if tomorrow a guy like paras becomes king, who is a known murderer, and who chase after women and drugs, who will kick him out as king? what will the country be like? i don't want to see my country go back to "hukumi sasan"

King Gyanendra left his throne for the peace,for the rights of people and for the people demand.

The main issue what you have failed to mention was what happened in Dhaka Saarc Summit.
When the offer that was given by the Indian PM Mr.Manmohan Singh to King Gyanendra was refused for Nepal to be a protectorate state like Bhutan . India helped all the parties to come together to get of the Monarchy.
That was the 12 pt agreement they did in Delhi.
No Monarchy in the past or the future will do any wrong to Nepal and the Nepalese people.

No offense, but lot of people who protested saying “ज्ञाने चोर, देश छोड” left the country, went to the Middle East and are doing hard labour due to unemployment in Nepal but the King even during the harshest times didn’t loose sanity and has been peacefully living in Nepal. 😅.
