The one important thing to mention…listen to the rhythm. It’s all musical. Reminds me of the Benny ´The Jet’ Urquidez’ story about watching Jackie tapping on his knee during the making of Wheels on Meals. Benny asked what Jackie was doing. He was choreographing the scene based on the rhythm. In this scene, it’s immensely noticeable during the back and forth punch-block combo.

People always banged on about Bruce Lee (I appreciated him later on) but me and my brothers were always Jackie Chan fans. Rented VHS (and borrowed pirate copies at school) along with WWF wrestling stuff and watched that stuff everyday after school. He's the best.

Well bruce was more straight up fight.Though most of his movies were horrible. I take exception to fist of fury. Cause there you the most bang for the buck.
But Jackie's movies are more comedy mixed with fighting. Also they usually had better developed story

@@johnnyguitar6639 Sammo, Jackie, Yuen Biao are basically an extension of Concord Productions (Bruce Lees company before it got absorbed by Golden Harvest) their modern era films the characters basically used JKD and their period dramas took off after Prodigal Son which is a Wing Chun movie. those three and the production team members (Yuen Wah, Lam Ching-Ying etc) are all like Bruce's younger brothers. it took them 8 years to match then surpass Bruces action quality. but if he was still around to advance his filmmaking skills it would have been even better for all of them

Jackie Chan developed "One man against the World" choreography. In Armor of God, he fights off multiple opponents at one time in a circular motion. He employs this in Police Story, Rumble on the Bronx etc. Most martial artists fight one by one sometimes 2 at a time. This is what sets Jackie apart from the rest.

For me, Jackie is one of 5 people who can pull off making fighting multiple opponents believable. The other four are Sammo Hung, Yuen Biao, Donnie Yen and the greatly underrated Dick Wei. They all have the combination of explosive movement, flow and rhythm that makes you believe they can do it in real life(even though it's realistically impossible). While a case could be made for Jet Li, Tony Jaa and Iko Uwais. But the five on my list are the best at it.

There's just no replacing Jackie Chan's style of entertainment. It's a good thing he made so many memorable action films. Even his mediocre ones are still fun as hell because the fight choreographs pretty much would carry the whole film anyway. So it'll be a sad sad day when he (like every other human being) eventually passes away.

Once I tried to watch all his movies on his filmography but the older they are the more the titles get butchered in the translation to my language so it's hard to find. For example Armour of God is called "Operation Condor" here which has absolutely nothing to do with the movie.

It was on ITV about 2am every week and used to feature new Jackie Chan releases on VHS. I used to religiously set the recording timer on my top loader in the hopes of catching a fight clip. No RUclips or streaming back then so you had to get creative. Xmas 91' Channel 4 also showed a season of Jackie Chan films in original dialogue withs subs which I recorded on VHS. A lot of fight movies, people complain that the bad guys go one of a time, but a lot of Jackie movies, he does in a way, were is like he is being overwhelmed but able to win.
