The Magic Roundabout…
I might learn to spell Obsessed 😜
You wouldn't wear what your helmet and gear from your Softail on the dirt bike or vice versa! It's a whole affair! He might need another couple in different colours / themes and styles to suit his different bikes :D I can only really see this one suiting 2 or 3, let's throw some "local" businesses some more business (and get some more content and presents for the Cog crew!) :D
Should've covered the real design with a static cling wrap of James May on one side and Jeremy Clarkson on the other just to see Richard react. That would've been fantastic
HAMMMMMOND!
14:40 "It's a sunvisor you pillock" got me
Mikes really gained his confidence now as a presenter on the channel. He looks so much more relaxed and is cleary just enjoying himself. Nice to see :)
Yea, I subscribed for James and Richard, but stayed here cause of Mike.
15:20 "I'd love to see your helmet now that you've seen mine". Cheeky Hammond 😂
This channel has really hit the sweet spot now with just letting us in on everyday life of these guys like we're hanging out with them. ❤❤❤❤❤
"everyday life" lol this is every bit as scripted as the last episode of Emmerdale
@@viperion_nz next you'll be telling me wrestling is fake 🤥
@@conversekid204 lol wrestling is VERY real but the storylines and who wins is...well, it's not even a secret any more :P
Richard, Mike, and team - you guys are great with your content. Always enjoy what you produce. Thanks!
15:07 Flip-down sun visors are amazing! Not only do I have one in my touring helmet, I also have one in my track helmet!
100%! wouldn't give mine up for the world
It's the most really cool dad thing ever!
Same. Surprised more top brands don't offer them. Just picked up a new Caberg to replace my old shark ridill and not many in the shop came with a flip down visor.
100%^^ I had two helmets without one and now that I have one with I can't ever imagine going back. Absolute game changer.
My problem with them is most dont come down far enough and make you look a berk.
I usually go for a dark visor and carry the clear one on my waist.
The mileage on Martin!! Like a son admitting to taking Dad's car out at night.
ahh the memories
😂😂😂😂😂😂
I would have massive sense of humour failure with that must admitt
At night...to the North Cape and back...
The built in sunglass thing feels like something a fighter pilot would have! Looks amazing.
Not only that. It really is a great thing to have when you're driving.
They absolutely do have them and function in a very similar way. Typically both a tinted & clear option for day or night flying.
dont get a cheap lid with one though they jam up and fall apart.
This was really cool to watch. I make car and helmet liveries for a game developer so it was awesome to see how these designs come to life IRL.
Cool job, dude! I’m jealous.
Can you design me one 😂
If he thought he was busy painting helmets before his in-box is about to light on fire! Super cool
Been subscribed quite a while now... I lost my dad back in 2017 in a freak flying accident
My dad and richard shared many similarities the thrill of motors/bikes/flying but we spent many many hours watching top gear and i grew up with a huge admiration for Richard hammond!
Mike is the perfect person to carry the torch to the next generation and i can only thank Mike for keeping my the nostalgia of the top gear shows and also keeping this culture alive!
Love the videos!
Keep them coming
He seems like a very kind, nice person.
My highlight was seeing that CBX 1000 in Richards garage. What a stunning bike.
So much pride in this man's eyes for his own work...Love it!!
Fantastic photography and editing! Two guys talking about their shiny helmets! :)
I feel like the only thing missing from Drive tribe is having James,Richard and Jeremy all together in a cafe or at someones house or a bar just having some drinks and talking old stories of trips, challenges, guests etc or doing a once a month get together to talk about new cars, basically the news but more laid back
Seems like Jeremy doesn't want to do anything with the channel. James and Richard have long segments regularly, Jeremy only has shorts if anything at all.
I do like Richard's helmet design, I also like the built in sun visor that is a great feature.
No mnw
Fairly common in high end helmets these days, watch out if you have a big nose.
@@popuptoaster I have seen them in open face helmets in Japan for drifting but never seen one in the UK. I have not looked at many helmets for a few years though.
I would love to see a bike roadtrip, that was be great 🤣
This was a genuinely interesting video. I always thought that helmet designs were just decals and had no idea that a lot of it is hand painted.
Thank you Mike for giving us long time fans this great content! Especially the 'authentic' drive in the Subaru. Looking forward to it.
Thank you for this. I really enjoy videos that show the process of some interesting techniques. The results look amazing
I of course love the filmed content, but, generally, i'm here for the banter between... well... everyone! fabulous, and great helmets guys!
Spray Painter Here. Im used to the Yamaha Blue i use it all the time its my favourite colour. It's called Deep Purplish Blue Metalic Candy 'DPBMC' is its colour code for anyone who needs to know. The genuine stuff is a 3pack but the way its been applied on this helmet wont ever have the true candy look to it in the sun like the Yam bikes have. The reason being is because the three stages of it need done within 10-20 minutes of the other and the clear coat needs put on within a half hour of that to achieve the proper candy look. If you let any stage dry too long or if you touch it before the clear coat is on it especially on the first colour coat stage (like they did in the vid) then subsequntly have to wash or sand it back again you lose its ability to hold the following metalic stage correctly. Doing "control coats" at low pressure at distance with the metalic stage of the paint can somewhat get it to lay decent but the 1 stage colour coat which looks like a completely matted blue does not want touched in any way and if you really must denib or remove dirt before the clear coat then do at the very minimum a light coat of the metalic stage before doing the fix then do your normal coat of the metalic stage as usual followed by ideally 20-30mins of dry up till its no longer wet looking, then fire the clear coat on. You get the proper full candy effect of the paint this way. Same with the red candy Yamaha and Kawasaki candy green. Cheers lads
This is quickly becomming one of my favourite youtube channels :)
These helmets are not just necessary gear but a piece of art.
Now that “The Grand Tour” has officially been announced to not continue anymore. What about a DriveTribe special episodes with all the lads?
Once you own a helmet with a drop-down visor you'll never buy one without it! Great paint work!
yeah maybe you road bike riders😂
What a genuinely nice dude!
This was a delightfull episode.
Awesome headgear... I'm looking forward to a bike show and road trip... At this stage in my motorcycle life, I would probably go with the Seaton Clan Crest, proudly displayed on the back, and have the helmet painted in the Ancient Hunting Tartan...
Richard that 1100 M is beautiful, so so jealous. Had one brand new years back miss it so much.
The sun visor moment is epic! Did you see that coming? Mike's face 🤣🤣
I dunno why, but I could sit there and watch/listen to Richard babble on & on about things for hours.
Richard buddy if your listening, hire a writer and have them follow you around for about a week and you tell them stories just so it could all go into a book that I would very happily read from cover to cover. Love hearing about his past and what he has plans for the future.
Hammond is the coolest OG automotive presenter. Seems like a genuinely good bloke as you guys say lol
Love the helmets, favorite thing is a custom painted helmet that showcases the owner’s personality/history or passions.
This was so entertaining to watch, absolutely fascinating.
Those helmets are extremely cool! Good job Mike
Job well done lads.
Looking very forward to a bike portion of this channel.
TR6R and a black CBX1000 in the back. Hammond sure does have impeccable taste in motorbikes.
Easily said, but this was a really great video, bit like kids in a sweet shop moment when they revealed their helmets.
The Smallest Cog helmet would of looked a lot better if it had a gloss finish IMO like the other helmet, cool design nonetheless
"...That i still havent driven!" 😅 tut tut Mike
I like how Richard's helmet turned out.
1:30 some say, the stig is still standing there till this day...
nice to see the local track
That paint work is awesome.
Beautiful helmets, very nice.
Schuberths are known for being the quietest. Lately, they’ve done a great job with design IMO.
Richard, you gotta get two! One to wear and one to put on the shelf just to admire. Like an action figure you never take out the package. Also did yall get the tv show called "Air Wolf" (1984) in the UK? When the sun screen came down in your helmet I thought about that show!
Never thought I'd get a chance to see both Richard AND Mike's helmets! 🤣
I'm afraid the Coulthard helmet is the more "dad" of the two.
Love the flip down visor on my shoei
I got Street Hawk or Airwolf vibes then with that visor action.
Once you go internal visor you never go back! Beautiful helmets too
two and a half thousand miles. love it
"I'm tryna decide if it's really cool, or the most Dads thing I've ever seen". Classic. 😄
The best helmet I ever had was a Shark one that not only had a pull down dark visor but a proper flip front that went all the way to the back of the helmet so you could use the helmet as full face or open face to suit the situation!
Love the helmets..nuff said😀😀😀😀😀
What a pair of helmets!
Richard, you had your “new” tattoo at the start of the video 😂
2:00 even his haircut is fast
Great to see Evan McGregor keeping busy making helmets. Hello there!
What a start 👀
A genuine gearhead, very clever my mate.
whatever you think of the sun shade...it is functional, and on every metric level, better.
Furthermore, it does in fact block sunbeams and by design makes things "cooler".😎
amazing helmets? awesome content! thank you!!
compasses for pencils and their sharp needles are readily available from the likes of aristo, faber castell, rotring etc.
ikr you get compasses with different point fittings so you can swap out for as sharp or blunt a pin as you like even different material pins some specifically for fiberglass and plastics. We use them all the time, the dude needs to get a decent compass set thats abysmal that.
His work is amazing👍
Im a spray painter here in Scotland i do freehand and proper manual pin striping and the likes. Hes decent but these are stencil designs and kind of basic. If you want a true custom helmet paintjob you need to speak to the real freehand guys. Aldo Drudi is the best about at this level of custom paintjob. Not taking away from the guy but the lid while on its 1 stage of the Yamaha DPBMC the matted blue stage should not have been touched or interfered with in any way. Its critical the first stage of that colour gets layed then left untouched untill the 2nd stage metalic coat is on, followed by the clear. The metalics dont lay right if you sand back or even clean off that 1st stage colour coat or if someone touches it like in the vid. Its a true 3 pack candy you need to apply it correctly for it to have the correct candy look. Loses its depth and colour flip when you dont spray it on right and if you mess with the 1st or 2nd stage washing it or lightly scuffing it back you ruin the metalics in it and they dont sparkle correctly. Ive been doing it 3 decade for the record.
The timing was impeccable at the start
The flip down visor is cool if one thinks comfort and convenience is cool. Very similar to slip on Sketcher shoes.
15:17 woaah pause lads
Yes, more motorcycle content!
Bike road trip!
I love how Hammond has a 1/18 Rimac C1 in his book shelf. I'm a little bit surprised his family let him keep it.
Two men talking about their helmets 😂😂😂 . Seriously love the designs .
The sun visor is pure Judge Dredd.
He’s like Buzz Lightyear now with that flip down tinted visor
"Excellent.." -Mr.Burns.
Top gear was my childhood thanks
Could of first provided to Hammond a boxed pink Helmet with something like "Small Cog" written on it. To remind him of the Vietnam trip :)
Tried most helmets and what Richard says about fit is true. For me after trying Arai AGV and so on, the one brand that fits best is SHOEI in a 58 size. Have yet to try a helmet that fits better....
Yeah my mate has a Shoei only head. See even the older Arai Quantum F i had (maybe 1999) that is probably the most brow room of any Arai ever, he can just about sit with that on for a few minutes. Stick my RX7 on him and his brow basically does not fit it theres too much rake angle on the visor from a side perspective. Really weird because i like Shoei fit too but Arai and Shcuberth stay on my head better when wet so dont move side to side as much when im chucking lifesavers about all over the place. Were all different head shapes so is all subjective i suppose.
btw i thought Hammonds lid was a Shcuberth not a Shoei?
Curious as to why he did a stencil for the cogs instead of doing a vinyl and then clear coating it? Too thick?
From what I’ve been told (in Australia). You can’t put stickers or stick on design on a helmet. The glue will eventually compromise the integrity of the safety shell of the helmet.
@@timothyzwart7412 Had not thought of that but makes sense.
@@timothyzwart7412the helmet is glued with epoxy inside 😂
Cool
More motorcycle stuff pls 100%
Nice helmets
I wonder if Schuberth have fixed the naff Visor mech. Mine slams down when I don't want it to.
When did Hereford/Ross on Wye move south of the River Severn (map graphic at 18:22)?!!
I love that Richard wants to call it a "crash" helmet, and not just a helmet or motorbike helmet. Such faith in potential future outcomes.
Vanity lid.
Uum I don't wanna break the 4th wall or anything haha.. But Hammond had the tattoo at the start when he asked Mike to get it organised.. Unless I'm missing something it would've been impossible for him to have gotten the helmet back before the Biarritz trip
A pedant writes: If that helmet is a C5 there's no way it's out of date.
Probably meant C3 and had been researching C5.... maybe
Guess so. Different model, always better to try on in the shop in that case.
It's called making content.
He probably just wanted a new one but wanted to get it tax back because it was for a business thing
@@ventedbus4917so you're saying I can buy anything, make a RUclips video of me opening it and it becomes tax deductible. You could be onto something there, surely it can't be that easy.. or can it
As soon as I saw the sun visor I was expecting, "I am the law!"
I think a Minion design for Mike would have been more appropriate 😂
Mike "giving the proclaimers a run for their money" Fernie has now joined the ASBO club with Martin the Subaru.
So sad we cant catch Hamster's show in South Africa.
Mike, a trip to Canada would yield custom NHL goalie helmets .. next time Richard sends you on a local errand.
I waved yesterday... Richard top marks for commitment, but you did look very cold buddy.
So, this was really quite interesting.
Martin @ Knockhill and you did not take it round !! 😮😅 please tell us you have 😌
