CLIP DESCRIPTION:
As E.T. raids the refrigerator at home, he starts to drink beer and Elliott (Henry Thomas) feels the drunken effects in class.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
Both a classic movie for kids and a remarkable portrait of childhood, E.T. is a sci-fi adventure that captures that strange moment in youth when the world is a place of mysterious possibilities (some wonderful, some awful), and the universe seems somehow separate from the one inhabited by grown-ups. Henry Thomas plays Elliott, a young boy living with his single mother (Dee Wallace), his older brother Michael (Robert MacNaughton), and his younger sister Gertie (Drew Barrymore). Elliott often seems lonely and out of sorts, lost in his own world. One day, while looking for something in the back yard, he senses something mysterious in the woods watching him. And he's right: an alien spacecraft on a scientific mission mistakenly left behind an aging botanist who isn't sure how to get home. Eventually Elliott puts his fears aside and makes contact with the "little squashy guy," perhaps the least threatening alien invader ever to hit a movie screen. As Elliott tries to keep the alien under wraps and help him figure out a way to get home, he discovers that the creature can communicate with him telepathically. Soon they begin to learn from each other, and Elliott becomes braver and less threatened by life. E.T. rigs up a communication device from junk he finds around the house, but no one knows if he'll be rescued before a group of government scientists gets hold of him. In 2002, Steven Spielberg re-released E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial in a revised edition, with several deleted scenes restored and digitally refurbished special effects.

I just realized something, E.T. came up with the idea of Phoning home while drunk. Let that sink in for a bit. He got drunk and started building a phone.

I’ve been watching horror movies (Alien(s), Pumpkinhead, The Evil Dead, Nightmare on Elm Street) since before I could remember, but I had nightmares about ET. This movie was legitimately terrifying to me as a child and still is to this day. Steven Spielberg was the greatest unknown horror director in history and he didn’t even try! This is true terror
Straight up man! i use to have reoccurring nightmares about E.T as a kid, I just cant bring myself to watch the movie since, it damaged me as a child 😅was the first movie to make me understand the concept of life outside of our planet, and it freaked me the hell out
He is the cutest thing ever
that thing is terrifying
It’s not even scary, well, fair point… the scream is but not the whole movie.
Omg me too! I didn’t get through the movie without a panic attack until I was 20😂 but then I loved it and realized it wasn’t as scary as I thought it was!
….he still gives me nightmares though which will never make sense to me😂😂
Even when he's drunk, Elliott loves the future Baywatch star.
Man of culture I see
haha strange
And the future Elly Mae Clampett...
Why is Elliott drunk when ET is the one drinking the beer?
The way he smiled at 1:40 gets me cracking up.

the game wouldn't be great though,
I love how grade school kids are taking an anatomy class... Where the teacher is practically teaching them pre-med concepts like adults...
Kids were treated a lot more seriously
back then. Their minds were challenged a bit more intensely. Today’s 10 year olds are like yesterday’s 7 year olds. But that’s not the kids’ fault. I blame the adults.
@@finster1968 That is very false. Taking a Science Anatomy Class was not a thing in grade school in the 80's. I was there. That's funny though, our public school system was at its worst under Reagan. Look at funding for education as a place mark. Haha thank you though that was hilarious
@@brandonmcdaddy - Rising high school graduation rates are an accountability fueled mirage that isn’t real. That’s cute how you blame Reagan for your problem, though. The original point still stands: Kids today are less emotionally mature than their peers of the past. Although granted, you’re an exception.

The CGI in the remaster hurt the movie... the puppet worked better and certainly made funny scenes even funnier
Well, thankfully Spielberg must've realized that remastering the film was a terrible mistake while he might've seen the "Free Hat" episode of South Park, so he probably decided to take the lampoonery from that episode into consideration by restoring the original version for the 30th anniversary bluray release.

Am I The ONLY One Who Thinks That The CGI Makes Him Look More EXPRESSIONAL?
There were allegations that the film was plagiarized from a 1967 script, The Alien, by Indian Bengali director Satyajit Ray. He stated, "E.T. would not have been possible without my script of The Alien being available throughout the United States in mimeographed copies." Spielberg denied this claim, stating, "I was a kid in high school when his script was circulating in Hollywood."Spielberg's friend, director Martin Scorsese, has also alleged the film was influenced by Ray's script.
Star Weekend Magazine disputes Spielberg's claim, pointing out that he had graduated from high school in 1965 and began his career as a director in Hollywood in 1969.
The Times of India noted that E.T. and Close Encounters of the Third Kind (1977) had "remarkable parallels" with The Alien.
These parallels include the physical nature of the alien. In his screenplay, which Ray wrote entirely in English, he described the alien as "a cross between a gnome and a famished refugee child: large head, spindly limbs, a lean torso. Is it male or female or neuter? We don't know. What its form basically conveys is a kind of ethereal innocence, and it is difficult to associate either great evil or great power with it; yet a feeling of eeriness is there because of the resemblance to a sickly human child.
Ray first found out about E.T. from a friend, British science fiction writer Arthur C. Clarke, who was familiar with The Alien and believed it was plagiarized by E.T. Clarke called Ray and encouraged him to take legal action against E.T.
However, no such legal action was taken, as Ray did not want to show himself as having a "vindictive" mindset against Spielberg and acknowledged that he "has made good films and he is a good director.
In 1984, a federal appeals court ruled against playwright Lisa Litchfield, who sued Spielberg for $750 million, claiming he used her one-act musical play Lokey from Maldemar as the basis for E.T. She lost the case, with the court stating "No reasonable jury could conclude that Lokey and E.T. were substantially similar in their ideas and expression. Any similarities in plot exist only at the general level for which (Ms. Litchfield) cannot claim copyright protection.

This is part of the film's first half... a comedy. But right when Elliott wakes up in the forest with E.T. missing, heartstrings are pulled to the very end.

Same xD
What happened to E.T.?
An all time Classic & one of my favourites you could never ever do a remake
I was the nerdy wierdo that preferred Spielberg's E.T. over Star Wars and Star Trek...
Star Trek was actually my second choice!!! Yet my family always bought me Star Wars special edition movie sets that collected mostly dust because I didn't have the heart to tell them...
If I ever meet someone that had such a positive impact in my life starting since early childhood, I'd have to say it would start with Steven Spielberg, and also include the actors that all played a role into a very special movie that showed me the power of what love looks like...
#1 - Henry Thomas for letting me understand what it was like to be there unlike any other child actor ever did. He truly made me feel like I was him going through such an extraordinary moment as it unfolded.
#2 - Drew Barrymore for seeing my sister and I in the eyes of innocence and purity. What an amazing actress and vulnerable woman that I have always admired; just like my sister.
#3 - Robert McNaughton for being the big brother I wish I had. And named my first born after (He doesn't know that).
#4 - Dee Wallace for how beautiful I saw her through the eyes of a child as a perfect mother, struggling to be a mother and to provide as best she could for her family. And still being there no matter what.
What a beautiful picture of an ethical issue of understanding equality for a young mind that saw it for the love and beauty it was... it was no movie. It meant so much more for me as a kid and still does today.
