I went from the X-T3 to the X-T5, and I think the "kinda" high ISO noise performance has improved. At 12.8k, in a dark setting like a concert hall, I've noticed patterns in the noise with the X-T5. But at 10k ISO and under, the X-T5 has had a nicer noise rendering compared to the X-T3.

Honestly glad to see cameras in general being more photo first or video first. I’ve been a closeted fujifanboy for a few years now. I shoot Sony APSC, and do a lot of commercial work. I might just switch to Fuji with the X-T5

You won’t regret adding a Fuji to your lineup. Owning the xt5 since release, I find myself picking this up way more often than my a7r4 due to its compact size and weight.
20mp less, sure. But this xt5 is locking on focus more than any past Fujifilm camera.
You will be very pleased with Fuji lens lineup as well as third party lens support like viltrox.

Also a lot of autofocus tests are missing this, but even if your little square on the screen seems to be tracking correctly on autofocus tests, if you actually release the shutter (YES i'm testing this in C mode) you still might not actually get an in-focus shot. I'm not sure what's going on here but out of around 800 shots I lost a couple really good ones that should have been easy portraits when I had face/eye detection on. So for now for portraits I just use single point autofocus in S mode, set focus with half press, and then recompose as needed, until I can learn more about wtf is going on with face autofocus. For street walks i still leave it in C mode with zone + face / eye detection and have been getting decent results.

+1 for an XT5S! I too would rather have lower resolution and higher AF speed. Bump up that ISO and dynamic range performance and I’d have my dream camera. Particularly since the 26mp sensor is already razor sharp with the latest/better lenses. Also +1 for film sims…at times they are a huge time saver and frankly have a look I can’t replicate in post. I do plenty of in-camera editing. Fuji really should upgrade Fuji x-raw studio, it runs so badly it frankly is slower than just grinding out edits in-camera. But I would hate shooting my 50-140 all day with no battery grip, a huge mistake Fuji made here on their “photography first” XT5 camera. Unless the XH2S gets a tilt screen or the “perfect” screen like the Sony a7R5 I’m not sure I could ever make the leap.

Nice review Ben! I use the XH2s and XT4 for my weddings and Event photography and they under perform a bit when it comes to low light compared to FF, so your suggestion is awesome and I hope
fuji listen, apart from that, the colors, dynamic range and the fact there only 26mpx still provides some room for post cropping, the Fuji files to me are just a bit richer to my previous R6 obviously under decent light. The lighter weight lenses is another huge advantage.

I’m loving my XT5 so far, traded my XT3 to get it and it feels like a nice and solid upgrade, yet familiar and second nature. I still have my X100V and now with my XT5 & X100V, I’m set with Fuji bodies. Now I’m just saving for more lenses. I just got the new 56 and the 33 and they are incredible. Paired with the XT5, autofocus is great. Next lens is likely the new 18. Although with the 35, 50 and 85 equivalents I have with the X100V’s 23 and the XT5 with the 33/56 combo, I’m pretty happy. And pretty broke, lol.

Again, x trans has issues, even with the raw conversion in Adobe, which is the go to for many. so the x-trans color array arrangement is not (!) a gimmick! it prioritizes greens over the other colors, because your eyes work this way… furthermore the cross-ordering of the pixel array, makes the need for correction of moire much less… just stop using Adobe to demosaic your files - Adobe makes shit software anyway - unperformant, expensive, not updated in honesty where it should’ve been too long ago…

I create content for a church, and have a side gig making content for local businesses. I use a BMPCC 6K Pro for that. I love that camera. I’m always very happy with the images. But, I’m looking to get something that is more photography centered for creating stills content for those same clients. I’m considering the XT5 because I love my x100v but wish I had the ability to use longer lens with it. I am also considering jumping up to the XH2s for the addition of its video features. Having a camera with good autofocus opens up some different video options for me that are limited in a solo run and gun situation. Do you have any thoughts on this? Is the lower resolution of the XH2s going to be a bummer for photos? Will I find the video features of the XH2s compelling enough to pay the extra cash?

I don't mind camera ambassadors, or paid RUclipsrs, and in fact I love Fujifilm as a company and their cameras are simply awesome. What I do mind is to proclaim the X-T5 as the best camera under $1700, when it so happens that the X-T5 costs $1699. I also didn't see any comparison to other cameras costing under $1700. Did I miss it? The X-T5 is an excellent camera, regardless of it being in the under $1700 category, or in the under $2000 category. That being said the 40MP sensor exhibits too much noise to my taste, the noise does render nicer than lower resolution X trans sensors, the latter having a non-uniform pixel pattern generates noise that looks like botches of color. The 40MP sensor although noisier hides that and creates a more pleasing noise pattern due it's higher pixel density. I no longer see the purpose of the X-Trans sensor at this resolution, I wouldn't be surprised if Fuji start using traditional CMOS sensors and concentrates more on lenses and film simulations, or image signature. Leica does that better than anyone.
