Coach Polly, the videos are great and well thought out. I am 70 years old, a jock, and just got a 1year old puppy that is high intensity. I got rollerblades for the first time to take her on our walks so that I could give her a good workout. Your videos have made it easy for me to understand how and what to do on my rollerblades with confidence. You are awesome! Thanks. Mark
when I was a kid, I could skate and stop so easily, I tried roller blading a few weeks ago first time since I was 17 (so like 15 years later) and WOW I sucked lol .. but this video is reminding me some tricks. I am going to try it again soon. thanks
I’m in a pretty similar boat. I was great at the basics until around 15, and haven’t rollerbladed again until now, 17 years later. I am trash and disappointed it wasn’t like riding a bike.
Looks so easy and effortless when you do it, Polly. Tried just the T-stop today. No chance at all to keep the back foot in any sort of coherent position relative to the front foot. But then it was my first time trying so I guess I'll just keep trying. Thanks for showing all the various ways!
Your video is very helpful for a 30+ yrs old guy, who is trying to pick up the fun from childhood. I haven't been playing rollerblades for almost 20 years, now I gain a little bit confidence before going out of my garage😅
Back in the 90s I worked for a graphics company in a business park next door to an inline skate shop. I did a bunch of work in exchange for a brand new pair of Salomon blades. Back then they went for $300 new. They seem like they would still be fun in 2024, but I thought they were too 1990's. Now I don't care. So, I broke them out a couple months ago and have been going blading every weekend on the trails in my suburb. If they're fun, what do I care what anyone thinks? Given I'm now in my 50's, these days I stay level, go slower and avoid hills. I just don't care what people think. I'm finally getting around to using them 27 years later and having the time of my life.
Great tutorial. Your description at around 1:50 is to the point. It happens to me all the time during my practice. But i didn't realise that it can be because of the pressure. Thanks for that. I took a 4 hour course here in Switzerland. Inline Skating is one experience which really humbled me. After a few hours of practice i still am unable to manage to stop without falling. After that & watching few tutorials in RUclips my opinion is that most of the tutorials or even teachers are not focussing on the baby steps of Inline Skating. Like if you are learning a language or any other sport you spend few hours doing nothing serious but just learning super simple stuff. Whereas with skating i feel somehow these baby steps are missing and right away we are trying to just skate. Eventually we may get it. But it seems to me a bit crude way of learning. I can be wrong though. Or maybe there are people who are doing it in a very detailed manner and i dont know them. This is in no way criticism on you or anyone. Just I am grateful for the opportunity to learn from generous people like you. Thanks again !!
My rollerblades just came in. lol, I used to roller blade back when I was a kid, actually preferred them over roller skates for when my friends would have parties at the skating rink. Some of the kids in my family are starting to get into having birthday parties at skating rinks and what sort of fun uncle would I be if I didn't skate with them occasionally? Your videos are great not just for beginners but as a refresher too.
I used to rollerblade as a kid in the 90s and absolutely loved it. Every time I see someone rollerblades nowadays (which is rare), I always think to myself “aw man, they look like they’re having so much fun!” I thought the same thing watching your video. The joy really shines through, and you do a great job teaching! I love it! Great work!
Hey! Such good timing 😊 I started rollerblading since I saw your short videos. Very inspiring and you make them seem too easy. I can currently move forward and do glides, yet I dont know how to stop. Been trying to do plow stop, but it feels like something is ripping down there 😂 Hope to give more update soon! Thank youuuuuuu 🥰
Oh thank goodness. My mom was trying to help me and tells me to use the T Stop, but I keep messing it up and falling and I had no idea what I was doing wrong. This video is so helpful, I’ve just been kinda crashing and falling to stop, so this has hopefully saved me from future bruises and road rash😅
Heel break was what i used as a kid! The whole video I started to wonder how i used to stop as a kid, until that came on, haha. Thank you for the video.
Bought roller blades and went out on them yesterday. They're aggressive skates with no stopper, and I'm a beginner! My gosh. Aggressive is definitely the word. Thanks for the video, going to practice the plow stop all day tomorrow, as stopping is what I'm finding the most difficult. Plus my feet and lower leg aches. Video has been a great help. Thanks
Thank you for this! I loved skating as a kid, and am trying to pick it back up after ~20 years. I went out for the first time yesterday but I was too scared to go fast because I couldn't figure out how to stop safely!! The heel brake wasn't working very well for me, so I would just squat and put my hands on the ground to stop 🤣 I'm excited to get back out there and practice these safer (and less lame) stops instead!!!
Thanks for the great videos and effort! The slides in the end got me hyped and I'd like to learn how to. Are we gonna see more about slides in the channel?
You are a classic skatter. We need more tutorial from you. Would you plz upload more tutorials about power stop, power slide, side surfing?Need your attention about this.Love from Bangladesh.
I’ve been blading for years, mostly as a way to get places too and just realized I use the heel break wrong. I drag it behind me, but I’m also left handed, could this be a factor? I honestly don’t know if I’d be able to even un learn it if I but a break on the left side
Ok, ok, I apologize for maybe spamming you with comments. But I'd love to see more playlists. This video is awesome but you're channel covers enough content for beginner-intermediate-experince content. Here's what I mean, you've covered a few topics that I can't find in your videos and maybe they are "so basic" you feel you don't need to explain but maybe a clip on one legged glides, a lil more on that T-stop cuz I wear through my rear brakes way to quick but I swap and rotate my wheels. But that stop is a perfect transition into a smooth crossover (you probably have a clip on that) or just a stop. You have about a year of clips on here, mint 👌, but I want to show off to my friends, and the moves you show off are built off of other skills. I have no idea where to start but if watching all you're videos start yo finish is my key, make that a Playlist first lol, thanks coach P, I'll catch you later. My apologies, 1:15-2:15 you demonstrated that T-stop and even acknowledged my concerned with the wheels. I still would like more playslists, ill watch FULLY before I comment but give me a tad more structure lol
Thank You Polly your tricks are very helpful for me first I will only know how to do heal break. Now from your videos I have learnt different types of breaks and don’t forget even the tricks now I am really good at getting in my class I am in 4th and I am a fan from India
This is so helpful! Could you make a new video about what kind of skates to get? I’m looking for some new ones, but I don’t know which ones to get. I’m a beginner rollerblader too so this is really helpful. Thanks again!
I don't trust the roads and sidewalks to go backwards but I'll generally use the heel brake going into another type of stop. The heel brake at first is annoying until to wears down a bit. Plus it's a good warning to scare pedestrians 😂😂😂😂
