Falling is why unashamedly wear full hockey gear to public skate sessions.
same here.
Oh!…
You read my mind!! I was just wondering the best tips for falling, as I have luckily avoided it so far! 😂 but I know it’s inevitable.
Over three years ago, I had an embarrassing backwards fall after being caught out by a uneven section of a bike path at a local park, landing on my coccyx (tailbone). Nothing broke, but my ass was definitely sore afterwards and was like, “That’s it. Hip pads are now needed.” I spent $85 on a pair of padded shorts from a brand called Crash Pads, and they were a good decision. Especially on my second time using them, when I got hit in my left glute by the left headlight of a Chrysler Pacifica at an intersection in a subdivision one evening. Thanks to those pads, I didn’t have a mark on me except for feeling a little sore afterwards and losing a week’s worth of pleasant dreams.
Oh no go low is an adorably charming wonderful way to remember this. I can’t wait to try this next time.
When my friend asked me to teach them how to roller skate, they were often frustrated to hear me say "learn to fall first". Now I've got a video to prove I'm absolutely right 😂
Seriously, falling is the first danger of rollerblading. Next, when you fall less often, cars and people in general become the new danger, and obviously speed and obstacles make it worse. But as a beginner, I think falling is the main "trick" to learn.
Once, I was riding with a large group and one people fall back, neck on sidewalk. It ended very badly. Maybe I'm still traumatised (even if I still love riding), but I can't help myself to repeat that knowing how to fall is primordial.
I'm 35, I began to ride at 11, I'm still wearing knee pads, wrist pads and helmet. Always. Shame doesn't kill, a bad fall could. And I'm not ashamed. I protect myself the best I can, even if rollerblading is as natural to me as walking (maybe even more, because it gives me more fun 😂). I know my confidence has become a danger : speed, less care about the environment... I trust so much myself that I could hurt myself badly very easily. Pads are not for beginners only. Pads are for careful people.
So learn to fall and use pads are the most important thing ever. It may literally save your life. We never expect an accident, it's not predictable, it's the nature of an accident. So take care of you.
Ride safe. Loves. ❤
P.s. : sorry if my English isn't perfect, it's not my native language 😅
I finally got the chance to try out rollerblades at the skating rink the other day and “oh no! Go low” helped me so much! Also, I kept falling in weird ways a couple of time that made my legs hurt, so I probably should have watched this video before hand😅 but now I know for next time.
Thank you for making these videos, I feel much more confident learning how to skate because of you!
Omg this makes me so happy!!!! I still use oh no go low as an expert. It’s such a life saver for all levels 🙏🩵🤙
Yes. Thank you for this! It's my biggest fear 😅
Excellent! I was just searching for your "how to fall" video yesterday. I couldn't find any and was going to request one. Lo and behold, less than 24 hours later it appears.
Love your channel, all your stuff is top shelf. Great explanations and clear demonstrations, and the captions are very helpful. Your shorts are brilliant.
I sprained my wrist the day after I got my first pair of roller blades. Fortunately it healed up in a few weeks and I now always use wrist guards, even though I'm to the point now where I never fall except when I'm trying to learn new tricks. I do wish they made full finger gloves with wrist guards as the worst roller blading injury that I've had thus far was when I crashed and dragged my thumb on the ground, ripping off part of my thumb nail and injuring the tissue under it. That took forever to heal.
I've given the "oh now, get low" advice to dozens of new skaters at this point. Pretty much any time I see someone at think rink lose their balance, stand straight up with the arms waving, and fall on their butts I offer this advice and encouragement... it is generally much appreciated.
Thank you so much for this video!! The fear of falling is what's preventing me from progressing with my goal of rollerblading!
It comes with time and practice! 🙏
My advice coming from a big chicken of falling when I first started is; practice squats on grass or carpet so you learn to get low quick as obviously the lower to the ground the less the impact; it's probably gonna happen, but landing on your butt/tail bone (same with hips)can be extremely painful so I would advise investing in crash pants or put some home made pad down back of your trousers/pants; you do never want to and should never fall backwards upright so if this happens really focus on your weight distribution and learn to adjust quickly when too much on heels; wear the minimum wrist guards if not all the gear; falls are just so unpredictable and if you do fall your natural tendency is going to put your arms and hands out to absorb impact to the ground so save your skin and wrists; most times at first your going to fall or rather tumble because you're learning and probably won't be going fast so not like a high speed crash...once you've had your first fall you'll soon learn to licl your wounds and get up with just your pride hurting. Lastly don't let this stop you skating as one of greatest things to do imo
i just like going fast at the roller rink and this video was to teach me to reframe from making the same move when i fall! i always tuck my left knee when i know im gonna fall and its starting to hurt when it does happen! hopefully i can think differently with your examples
Im just going to fall normal, all geared up with wristguard, helmet, knee pads, hip pads. elbow pads. "Oh no go low" is for young people. I gotta protect my knees from further injuries and also protect my achilles - both of which "Oh no go low" puts tremendous forces on.
That’s me and my back I have wrist guards on to protect the beat up wrists (barely fit) so will catch my knees …hopefully terrified of having an unexpecting backwards crash though terrified of giving me another Concussion that had with ice skates!
Yay top 26 and top 8 likes and comments. Love this channel. Best to you and your family. Thanks for making this video.
Watching from Maryland.
Same to you!☺️💚🙏
cool that you brought your gymnastics/ninja understanding to this video! esp helpful about backwards falling (which i hope i'll never have to do myself unexpectedly)
🙏🙏🫶🤸♀️ I LOVE when I get to use my gymnastics training in skating lol 🥰
I broke my wrist skating, so this video helped me a lot. I’ll be sure to use all of these tips in the future.
I love oh no go low😂
Same!! 😃🤙
These tips are great, but for ultimate safety, you really wanna keep a pair of retro game consoles in your back pockets.
Lmaoo ik what your referencing too
@@Rennyy5 I didn't got the reference =(
How it goes for me most of the time:
*Starting to lose balance…*
„Oh no…“
*hits the ground*
„…go low💀“
When I fall, I skate 50% better immediately afterwards. Im like so thats the worse that can happen...🤣
This is a great tip for skaters on falling. I have used my hands for bracing the impact on falling but I've never had any wrist issues (sprain/ broken) but I use my bent knees/ legs and fall forward. If you're not gonna fall on your side using the bent knee fall that I just mentioned is a good option too. That's how I always fall. Never had any issues apart from one ankle sprain because my left skate got caught in a pot hole that I didn't see. Don't be afraid to fall even the best of skaters are bound to fall. If you're starting out wear a guards on your wrist knees and elbows when skating outside as well as a helmet.
Great tip! Thank you!! 🙏😁💕
ive done the worst kind of fall on my 2nd total time skating. still scared but i will crawl on the ground a bit now to gain my confidence back.
Thank you for sharing this! I fell on my wrists and bruised it today; I even had wrist guards on for protection. 😅
Hey! I wanted to thank you for your videos, really easy to follow and understand, even when limited skating experience! I also wanted to ask: do you know possible solutions for my middle, ring and pinky toes going numb after half an hour of skating? Thanks again!
First time I tried ohonogolow it worked. I caught myself and roll right on with my hands on my knees feeling relieved and a little proud. And then tripped over a giant pebble and flew forward cuz my feet weren’t staggered 🤣
best pads for skating?
I tripped over a piece of bark on the footpath last week and have gravel graze on the side of my shin (because I was wearing shorts). Does wearing knee pads protect your leg skill if you're not wearing long pants?
Hi, I'm gonna buy some inline skates soon and i really need tips if possible can anyone help me?
Hi Polly! Are those the new Rollerblade Lightnings? If so, how are you liking them so far? I'm thinking about getting them and would love to hear what you think of them. Thanks!
Great tips!
Thank u teacher
Amazing lessons, but a note about falling on knee pads, once people learn how to fall on knee pads, they will still fall on knees, even when falling without pads, that's why I prefer the Oh No and it's variations.
Hi how do you start when you feel scared?
great vids 👍🏼
I fell back once just by standing on an area that had slight bump. At first, I did not know why I fell back when I was just standing. It ended being the area I decided to just stand still that was not flat. I don't think you can bend your knees if you are already in the falling proccess.
Looking forward to your next fear of falling video
☺️🙏🎉💚

Thank You For Advice ❤
You're welcome 😊🙏🧡🙌
Everytime I fall I always hurt my wrist which gives me the feeling of not doing it anymore because it kind of weakens me
🤗💜🦉💯
Me personally whenever im at a skateing ring and im sprinting around i like to get down low knees and feet together and my hands on the top of my skates (where the laces are) and just turn normally it helps alot since i habe no idea how to brake comfortably 😅
Oh! Thanks for sharing! Love it! Get low! 😄❣️💯💯🙏❤️
