Yes. I have seen the video where Jon Bernthal talked about this and I love that version it has a bigger impact and still is the version that I like to consider
So in fear the walking dead, troy says the smell of the dead keeps away walkers. Maybe the farm was safe for so long because of the large number of walkers they kept in the barn. This is kind of supported by the fact that a horde attacks soon after they're killed, but could always just be a coincidence. (Either way I personally don't think the writers had this in mind all the way back then. Cool tie-in tho)
I don't know if it's intentional or not, but I like how Dale's character continues to wear summer clothing (his classic floral shirt and bucket hat) while everyone else begins transitioning into wearing jackets and sweaters and heavier clothing for fall. It shows how Dale's character is not going to "change with the seasons" - how he is stubborn in his ways and believes that they can stay the same morally even though the world is changing into a lawless place, and how he's not meant to last.
The fight scene between Rick and Shane is the best one in all of film for me. The choreography was good, but it was the build up. For more than a season, they were clashing, especially the episodes before there was a clear amount of tension in the air. And this moment was when it became unloaded. Btw, great video
Tho these take a lot of time and research, and that your currently busy with an internship, I still want to say thank you for creating such a info-packed yet enjoyable video! Plus hearing your own thoughts and opinions adds a bit more flavor to this as well. So all in all, another great vid!
4 weeks later and you uploaded another monster of a video, at almost 50 minutes the amount of dedication you put into this is simply amazing. Very through breakdown of not only the surface that the audience sees but the behind the scenes of all the issues the writers went thru. All the small details and call backs that you are able to point out are amazing, there are so many small scenes that have multiple meanings that you touch on that I appreciate. I’ve briefly read the comics but after hearing the comparison I now have to get my hands on it.
Certainly recommend picking up the books, while there are some points later where the TV-series emulates them 1-to-1, they in most cases become more and more different as time goes on.
I can't imagine how much time and research is put into these videos, but I want to thank you for this. There's so much I've learned about the show that I didn't know before. Also it seems kinda sad that from the very beginning the show had issues that unfortunately were not fully resolved and led to the clusterfuck we got later on.
Season 2 was done really well considering the budget they had. I agree some parts seemed too long and boring, but we got a lot of character development this season. I also like what the show did with the Sophia storyline. It sucks she had to die, but her death definitely shaped Carol, Rick and Daryl into the characters they are now. I also didn't care about Comic Sophia at all
@@gfilmer7150 it is funny cause it remember reading the IMDB message boards (back when they were still around) while this season was airing and almost EVERYONE hated this season and talked about how bad it was. Now ten plus years later people are like “yeah it was good actually”. Funny how time changes perspectives on things
@@joebeast15 time passing makes everything look better. 10 years from now on we will call TWD masterpiece despite all the bad writing later. We even call Fallout 4 a great game, despite how hated it was when it released and I still hold that opinion true.
Season 2 is very good.. I get it, it was rough when we where watching week by week and had our first mid season break as well but when you binge it, its a very good slow paced classic zombie tale ending with the big shootout
31:00 i loved Hershel's look toward Rick after he'd killed both the guys. It's like he believed 100% at that moment that Rick was the right guy to let stay at the farm.
33:30 that Walker ends up being apart of the intro around season 5-6 onward for a bit too. Previous seasons were more about showing each location the characters had went through on their way to the prison and for seasons 3/4 the prison was the final 2/3 images before the title card. Just a fun fact I guess about that particular Walker.
I’m surprised they just didn’t make the Tank Zombie story a webisode series back when those were a thing. Would’ve made us hyped for a season premiere which was their intention.
given what direction MCU is going right now I don't see in any shape or form Jon coming back as Punisher, since then the Punisher will not have wicked sense of justice and kill everyone on the way but teach them lessons on misogyny or smth like that idk
I do understand why they killed off dale there given the circumstances. HOWEVER I absolutely love his ending in the comic so seeing how he dies in the TV show rubs me the wrong way now
He was friends with Frank Darabont, If Frank didn’t leave his directing spot then we could have seen more of Dale, maybe he could have been killed by the governor.
Dale was Supposed to live, to die as "Tainted Meat" in Season 5. Jeffrey DeMunn (Dale) quit the Show TWD, in Protest & Loyalty to his Friend, Frank Darabont, getting Fired.
Goddamn, Andrew Lincoln is a LEGEND. He made millions fall in love with Rick Grimes. He’s been so missed. I hope the Rick/Michonne spin-off is what we all deserve and hope for. In the story timeline, Rick has been gone for nearly a decade! I am bummed that they didn’t find a way to bring him back in the final season, but looking at the final season, I don’t even know how Rick would fit. It also seems absurd to me that Michonne would willingly abandon her children for YEARS.
If Darabont was still showrunner, Carl would have never died. Yet, Carol might have died in Season 3, and Andrea might still be alive too. There are little things here and there that I think may or may not have been happening throughout the TV show if Darabont was still showrunner.
@@handsomeman9433 I highly disagree. The new seasons are just filler tv drama and have no significance to furthering the plot most the time. When they stopped trying to be even slightly similar to the comics the quality dropped hard.
@@ryman1933 yeah, I couldn’t say the quality dropped, I just think it gave itself a different soul than the original which should have been kept around more. I mean it’s still a very well crafted series. Just keeps you remembering about how different things are compared to the past.
I love the moment after he kills big guy Tony that he waits and considers firing another shot, foreshadowing the fact Rick knows about the fact that when you die you turn unless your brain is destroyed. That is great foreshadowing, especially if you don't know what is going to be revealed about the virus like most.
I always looked at Lori's reaction to Rick as less about Shane's Death, and more so in Ricks change. His reasoning on Shane Dogging him, and that we wanted him dead. This is in contrast to who Rick has been, and as we see in season 3 and Loris guilt I think she's equally horrified at feeling that she pushes the situation there. She's not angry that Rick killed Shane, she's in shock and despair at what they've become
Yes! Honestly I think people critise Lori too much and nitpick her every expression to find something to complain about. She wasn't perfect but she tried her best to support Rick. The fact that she was shocked that Rick killed his closest friend doesn't make her evil!
What made Season 2 a little difficult even more, but eventually worked out, is that the owners of the Hershals Farm House did not want any walkers within 20-50ft. I don't remember how much exactly, but when doing a tour of Woodbury, and the outside of Alexandria a few years ago during the filming of season 10 or 11, the tour guide told us that the farms owners never let anyone swear in the house, or any Walkers near the house, so the barn was forced, and walkers show up less because of the main place they need to be. They filmed the fall of the farm on a set that was just the front deck and walls of the farm house
i want to call out, during the bar scene in "Nebraska" rick killed fat tony walks over and still put a round in the head, knowing the whole "we are all infected" after the fact it shows the concept he does know.
If Shane was leader, everyone in the group who has been left behind at one point or another due to circumstances, only to later be rescued by the group, would either no longer be with the group, or they’d be dead. We all know Shane wouldn’t risk anything to save anyone (besides Lori and Carl). That being said; eventually Shane’s group would get whittled down to just the three of them
I absolutely love that letter by Darabond and he was absolutely right about everything, I'm glad he eventually won that lawsuit. I just watched that episode again, thank you

This was recommended for me and I’m glad it was! I haven’t stopped watching since. I’ve been a huge fan since day one! Haven’t not ever read the comic I love seeing the two compared. Loving this content. Thank you so much!
Such excellent analysis! Makes me sad but also super happy to remember how awesome this show used to be! Even it’s cons are not so bad and the pros are just amazing.
I feel like Lori behaves the way she does in the finale for several reasons: 1. She knew Shane would have to die sooner or later, because it became increasingly obvious that he was unhinged. But hearing her husband say point-blank that he killed his best friend was still a shock. (Also the group had JUST had a conversation about if it was right to kill Randall, a stranger, and now Rick has killed the man who was like a brother to him) 2. She was horrified when she found out that Carl was involved, because OBVIOUSLY. Her 11/12 year old son has just had to put down and undead Shane (and Shane was close to Carl as well, like a mentor figure to him) 3. If you watch her body language after this, you can see that she is still shocked and scared at the sudden change in Rick’s personality and demeanor. She holds Carl as if protecting him from Rick’s anger and coldness. If you were in a situation like this and watched your spouse become a completely different person, it would be pretty scary too. 4. After the 8-month time jump, we can see at the beginning of S3 that’s she’s tried to reconnect with Rick, but he continues to shut her out. But Lori continues to support his decisions, and be fiercely protective & loving of him and her son. Maybe they could have done better developing her character and her relationship with Rick, but Lori is not as bad a character/person as a lot of fans made her out to be.
I like your take on it and wish I felt the same way. I can’t lie, I was happy when she died because I hated her guts. 1. She knew Shane was unhinged and pretty much told Rick to kill him, yet practically punished Rick for doing so. 2. I could Kiiind of understanding her being upset about Coral putting down a dead Shane because no child should be forced to kill anyone. However, Coral made his choice, saving his dad, and Coral wasn’t as traumatized by it as one would have expected. Guess he’d already seen enough death so Hey🤷🏽♀️ 3. Her being shocked by Rick’s change in demeanor was sooo uncalled for. Especially knowing how Shane rolled. I don’t recall seeing Rick going off on Coral to the point where anyone thought he would be capable of hurting his own child. She was just being mad extra. 4. As far as her trying to reconnect with Rick, she wasn’t trying to be a single mom🤣. I kid LOL, but for real, she treated Rick like isht for doing what needed to be done, and had no idea who her kids father was. And she was incapable of taking care of/protecting herself or her son from other humans OR walkers. Just useless. She needed Rick way more than he needed her. She made me love Carol all the more♥️ I guess I was just over her character and her utter uselessness. She couldn’t fight, she couldn’t shoot, crashed a car with no other real distractions, she smashed the homie and got pregnant during a Zombie Apocalypse. And let’s not forget she constantly failed at her 1 job. One job, Lori! Keep an eye on your son. I swear, the one job that she had she refused to do. So she effectively got Dale killed. Oooohhh I hated her guts🤣
@@NikkiRen - You can only blame her for Dale's death because you are in the audience and have an overarching view of the show. Lori is in among the characters, and doesn't have the level of awareness we do. That's why a particular character becomes the target of an audience's overwhelming hatred and rage, like yours. We see how their actions spread to other parts of the show, but they can't. Also, we have the advantage of being able to revisiting episodes, effectively reliving the experience over and over again. The characters can only live it once, and they can never take back their decisions. By the time Season 3 arrives, it's clear that Lori's found more ways to be useful. In previous seasons she carried out housekeeping tasks, as she and a few others were trying to preserve some semblance of civility and domestication in the quarry and farm. By the third season, however, she's become more of a survivor, and she helps draw walkers to the fence to distract them, she revives Hershel, and she sacrifices herself for an unborn Judith. Whatever she might have done before, and however useless she may have seemed to the group in the past, I think her death demonstrated her priorities perfectly.
Hey, Considering your recommendation in the previous video, I've picked up the first book which has 12 issues of the comic! and yes, contrary to my experience with the show, the storytelling and characters in the comic are way better imo. Unfortunately i can't buy the rest because they cost a shit ton but i also picked up invincible by kirkman for good measure! I hope you make one these for that show too!
Glad you enjoyed them! But I guess your in the same boat as me then, I ended up reading a lot of them online (which I really don't enjoy doing), because the price was like 1/5 of what they sold for where I live. I'm not exactly sure, but I think they've released the entire series in compendium form as well, which might make them more affordable. As for Invincible, yeah, I definitely want to do some content on it once I get around to watching it all the way through!
yeah i might end up reading the rest online too. this is nice read along with recap of the show. Do you have an instagram or twitter where you can update the issues you will discussing in the future videos? I'll make sure to catch up to that point before watching these so as not get spoiled.
Great videos! Looking forward to more content. Love the show and the comics, long time walking dead fan. Always fun to listen to breakdowns and discussions.
I love the cinematography of the show, as you mentioned. The lone walker is such a great shot. The only thing that gets me about it is there appears to be an error in the episode. On the drive to go 18 miles out, Shane looks to the right and sees the walker moving from right to left. When they're on their way back, Shane sees the walker again, but he's not on Shane's left this time, he's still on Shane's right, and still moving from right to left. He should be on the opposite side of the vehicle (Rick's side) in the subsequent sighting of him, as they would be returning and not driving the same direction in each part of the journey. The other thing that gets me about the episodes in this part of season 2, is the continuity error with Sofia's death. When Rick shoots her, she drops down and lands on her right side, but when they show her again after the commercial break (easier to notice while binging with no commercials), we see that she's laying on her stomach in a different position. I absolutely LOVE the show, but I notice these types of things in everything, not just TWD, and it doesn't affect my love for the the series at all. I'm just hardwired to notice these things. Great video!
Just to dump my thoughts here: I remember watching the second season and my mom joining me in my living room. We bursted out laughing when the deer scene came up and Carl and the deer got shot. I guess I knew where I got my sense of humor from^^ And I was sad when Shane died cause I felt like there was potential for him to be in later seasons. When Dale died I was offended, tbh. Well, I didn't know that it was the actors idea :/ My hate for Andrea will never die x'D
Scary how Rick killing Sophia led to his massive amount of killing later, as seen with those 2 other survivors in the bar scene. It made him killing Shane a whole lot easier.
Haha for sure! But yeah, I definitely remember the first part of the season dragging a little on first viewing, but I think that was largely down to the fact that there was a week between episodes. Watching them back to back is an entirely different story - many episodes from season 2 are my favorites just due to how cooked up they are. For example, I don't think the Sophia twist would ever be as impactful if there hadn't been such a long build-up to it that caught even the comic book readers off guard.
@@Koroto Absolutely agree, on my first watch season 2 Was ok, but on my second watch upon noticing the details and knowing some outcomes, this season was incredible def in the top 5 of walking dead seasons. Man early Walking Dead was so damn good.. just found your channel currently binging through some videos, you have some great stuff here, definitely keep up the great work! Ps: Im hyped to see the All out war analysis eventually because i think it was done way better in the comic, while still having great moments in the Show.
Okay so I have seen every episode since the very first airing on Halloween 2010 but I did not read the comics, so I did not know that Otis shot Carl thinking he was a walker. The TV adaptation made sense to me because he was clearly aiming at the deer when Carl got hit. So my only question about the comic adaptation is why would Otis have been shooting at Carl if he thought he was a walker, when I was made to believe that Otis and the rest of the people on Hershel's Farm were collecting Walkers and storing them in the barn thinking that they were sick people that could be cured? Doesn't the whole Arc of people thinking that Walkers were just sick and could potentially be cured take away a bit from the reasoning why Otis would have been shooting at Carl AKA a walker?!? Just seems like a weird plot hole but maybe I'm missing something...?
Good point hmmmm maybe he shot walkers to weaken them and take them to the barn? Or maybe he shot walkers if they were close to animals that he needed for food? Or maybe Otis wasn’t as into the barn zombs as Hershel so when he was alone he killed them? But that is def a good point. I think it’s interesting he shoot’s Carl instead of the larger “zombies” since Rick and Shane are right there
Not a criticism at all but technically, Rick wasn't holding Shane's personal gun. Shane threw his gun in the woods to hide it when he staged the Randle escape. The gun that Shane had was T-Dog's that he borrowed to go on the hunt for Randle. But yes it's the gun that Shane was going to use to kill Rick. Love the video!
I can't wait until the last episode where Rick wakes up in the hospital surrounded by his wife, Shane and Carl and realizes it was all a dream while he was in a coma.
For anyone who wants to read the comic, it's free (up until volume 10, in my region, India) on kindle if you have a kindle unlimited membership. you can probably binge through it if you can get 30 day free trial from somewhere. As for me I'm fortunate enough to have the membership so I'll read it at my pace. I want krotos to know even if these videos don't get much attention, I am looking forward to experience this with you till the end. Thank you for all the effort you put into these. 👌🏻
I think Shane is as to hotheaded, he would have gotten most of the group killed by trying to attack head on with a the Governor and defiantly would have gotten his head bashed in by Negan if they even would have made it that far. Also Rick was and is a master negotiator, there’s many examples where he was able to negotiate with the villains to either get leverage or get them out of a situation, starting with the vatos, he talked down the situation at first and of course got saved by the grandma but none the less, Rick was a great leader from the start and slowly became more cruel to match the cruelty of the world they were living in.
I think the worst part about the show is killing Sofia because her and Carl are together in the comic eventually have a Kid together. I do think it was dumb in the comics to kill off Rick though.
I disagree. The comic was Ricks journey from the beginning, and ending with his death made sense. I think it was handled fairly considering the world they live in, Rick doesn't get to go out with a bang, but his impact will be remembered.
You hit it in the head with being in love with TWD soundtrack!! I thought I was the only one who looked up the songs when I heard them in the show 😂 absolutely amazing soundtracks and they fit so well with the scenes they are used in.
Loving this video series as a fan of both the novels and the show. For the most part, i love the show a lot more. There just seems to be more depth to the characters in general. Regarding season 2 specifically, i thought it was such a beautiful call back, after everything that Carl (and also his parents) goes through, to wake up and immediately he tells his mom about the deer. One of my genuinely favorite moments in a series holding many touching moments. Starting with Hershel, really, one thing that i truly love about both versions of TWD is that they treat their religious characters respectfully all throughout and paint them as real people where most TV and movies show anyone who believes in God or references the Bible is an evil hypocrite.
I SWEAR TO GOD ABOVE...This is one of my comfort shows (even with all of its issues)! And thus this is my comfort RUclips series to rewatch over and over and im not even kidding that I have fallen in love with Koroto just from the way he speaks. @@maryammenalagha8989 oh right, i completely forgot about that. Its been a minute. Maybe it still did kept them safe before

@@maryammenalagha8989 also doesn’t help how much they shot their guns before the herd showed (killing the barn walkers)
Daredevil hallway fights are way better
Tho these take a lot of time and research, and that your currently busy with an internship, I still want to say thank you for creating such a info-packed yet enjoyable video! Plus hearing your own thoughts and opinions adds a bit more flavor to this as well.
So all in all, another great vid!
I love your take on the first two seasons
4 weeks later and you uploaded another monster of a video, at almost 50 minutes the amount of dedication you put into this is simply amazing. Very through breakdown of not only the surface that the audience sees but the behind the scenes of all the issues the writers went thru.
All the small details and call backs that you are able to point out are amazing, there are so many small scenes that have multiple meanings that you touch on that I appreciate. I’ve briefly read the comics but after hearing the comparison I now have to get my hands on it.
Certainly recommend picking up the books, while there are some points later where the TV-series emulates them 1-to-1, they in most cases become more and more different as time goes on.
i never understood why anyone would bother getting the walker out of the well in the first place. like- are y’all seriously gonna drink that water 🤨
Same. I was like: *"Bro, just leave it. You're not gonna drink it."*
I also didn't care about Comic Sophia at all
If only Season 2 were shorter (8 episodes minimum/11 episodes maximum), it would be far more appreciated
@@joebeast15 It has its ups and downs
Well when you have your budget cut down while trying to make a show good, seems difficult. I wish they gave darabont more of a chance.
Daryl: “I’m don’t looking for people”
Daryl season 9: *literally camping in the woods for months trying to find Rick*
*years 😂

I’m surprised they just didn’t make the Tank Zombie story a webisode series back when those were a thing. Would’ve made us hyped for a season premiere which was their intention.
There is a story of the tank zombie
Thank you so much for this. Your love of the series comes through. Please keep doing these. As a comic and show fan this is perfection.
Jon Bernthal is just amazing, and I was hyped when he was cast as Frank Castle, I hope he comes back to play the character.
given what direction MCU is going right now I don't see in any shape or form Jon coming back as Punisher, since then the Punisher will not have wicked sense of justice and kill everyone on the way but teach them lessons on misogyny or smth like that idk
Good news, he's coming back as The Punisher!
It also seems absurd to me that Michonne would willingly abandon her children for YEARS.
funny how AMC didn’t want TWD to be an anthology but now it’s getting an anthology series
Darabont was such a good director for the show. Wish we coulda seen his vision play out. Now the show is just a blatant cash grab
Darabont was definitely the most creative, ambitious, and passionate director the show has had

As some one who took film class for 2 years I’m loving these in depth breakdowns and comparisons, good content man 👌🏻
I always looked at Lori's reaction to Rick as less about Shane's Death, and more so in Ricks change.
I watch A LOT of walking dead videos and this was seriously a phenomenal video. Great job! Going to watch your other videos now!
Seeing this makes miss a lot of the characters that are gone such as Glenn, Hershel, and Dale.
Glen and Maggie got really pushed back after season 3-4.
i want to call out, during the bar scene in "Nebraska" rick killed fat tony walks over and still put a round in the head, knowing the whole "we are all infected" after the fact it shows the concept he does know.
If Shane was leader, everyone in the group who has been left behind at one point or another due to circumstances, only to later be rescued by the group, would either no longer be with the group, or they’d be dead. We all know Shane wouldn’t risk anything to save anyone (besides Lori and Carl). That being said; eventually Shane’s group would get whittled down to just the three of them
a scene i really liked that not enough people talk about is the one where hershel and glenn talked about where their families came from
Wow. I didn't know about everything Frank said. I totally understand him being upset , insanely upset even. But that was a bit much.
Did it hurt your fweelings

My favorite part is when carls pulls his gun out yells it’s Carlon time then shots Shane
Such excellent analysis! Makes me sad but also super happy to remember how awesome this show used to be! Even it’s cons are not so bad and the pros are just amazing.
I feel like Lori behaves the way she does in the finale for several reasons:
1. She knew Shane would have to die sooner or later, because it became increasingly obvious that he was unhinged. But hearing her husband say point-blank that he killed his best friend was still a shock. (Also the group had JUST had a conversation about if it was right to kill Randall, a stranger, and now Rick has killed the man who was like a brother to him)
2. She was horrified when she found out that Carl was involved, because OBVIOUSLY. Her 11/12 year old son has just had to put down and undead Shane (and Shane was close to Carl as well, like a mentor figure to him)
Guess he’d already seen enough death so Hey🤷🏽♀️
She made me love Carol all the more♥️
I guess I was just over her character and her utter uselessness.
Dale dies in the comic like bob's character does in series 5. As the tv series progresses you just get moments where it vaguely mirrors.
Fantastic retrospective my guy. Just finished the season one retrospective and loved it. Keep up the amazing work.

Only if Rick held Sofia climb a tree that way walkers couldn't get to her. She would had been saved by that way.

Thank you, glad you enjoyed it! They're definitely coming, but these videos take quite a while to put together 😅
Rick Glenn and Herschel in the bar and Rick shooting those two guys was my favorite scene in the entire show
Awesome video, thanks for putting all the research/background info all in one well put video 🍻
The biggest one is T-dog teleporting in front of the group on the episode where they kill the barn zombies, it’s hilarious

Just to dump my thoughts here:
I remember watching the second season and my mom joining me in my living room. We bursted out laughing when the deer scene came up and Carl and the deer got shot. I guess I knew where I got my sense of humor from^^
And I was sad when Shane died cause I felt like there was potential for him to be in later seasons.
When Dale died I was offended, tbh. Well, I didn't know that it was the actors idea :/
My hate for Andrea will never die x'D

Scary how Rick killing Sophia led to his massive amount of killing later, as seen with those 2 other survivors in the bar scene. It made him killing Shane a whole lot easier.

Walking dead s2 is weirdly comforting to watch just the go to season for me sometimes.
Dude Hershals infinite shotgun is the best thing i swear.
But in all seriousness season 2 in walking dead is really underrated imo
I think it’s interesting he shoot’s Carl instead of the larger “zombies” since Rick and Shane are right there
Just found these as I started rewatching the series! Awesome work!
I can't wait until the last episode where Rick wakes up in the hospital
surrounded by his wife, Shane and Carl and realizes it was all a dream
while he was in a coma.

I do think it was dumb in the comics to kill off Rick though.
I disagree. The comic was Ricks journey from the beginning, and ending with his death made sense. I think it was handled fairly considering the world they live in, Rick doesn't get to go out with a bang, but his impact will be remembered.

The deaths of Sophia, Otis, Dale, and Shane all hit very hard in Season 2, very sad to see them all go in such brutal fashion.

The first two seasons were SO DAMN GOOD!
