Transcript: This is a story about a little girl named Sophie who lives in an orphanage in England. One night, she looks out the window and sees a mysterious tall figure walking about the houses and buildings. She sees that it's a giant who is looking into windows and carrying a long trumpet. The giant comes toward her building and Sophie hides under her blanket. She is picked up and taken by the giant to Giant Country, a far away land where giants live.
The giant who takes her is named the Big Friendly Giant, or BFG, and he explains that all of the Giants eat people except for him and that because Sophie saw him, she would have to stay in Giant Country for the rest of her life.
BFG explains that while he doesn't eat people, he does give people dreams using his trumpet. He catches dreams with his sensitive ears and dream catcher net.
BFG talks about the giant lifestyle and shares that he eats snozzcumbers, large giant pickles that taste and smell bad.
After being visited by a fellow giant who suspects that BFG is harboring a human, BFG takes Sophie dream catching. However, on the way there, he encounters the other giants and they toss him around like a ball. Eventually, BFG enters a misty gray space and soon he catches a good dream and a nightmare. On the way back home, BFG gives the mean giants a nightmare.
The rest of the giants decide to go to England to eat some children and so Sophie encourages BFG to stop it. Their plan is to give the Queen of England a dream that children were being eaten by giants and that Sophie would be able to provide the Queen the answers on where to find the giants.
After creating the dream, BFG and Sophie journey to London and enter the Palace grounds. As the Queen is sleeping, BFG blows the dream onto the Queen and places Sophie in the room. The Queen soon wakes up and learns that several children were kidnapped at various boarding schools. The Queen discovers Sophie and Sophie shows her BFG. They have breakfast together and Sophie explains that there are giants eating people all over the world. After the Queen confirms missing people in other countries, she works with the military to capture the giants.
BFG leads the way as helicopters follow him to Giant Country. The military men capture the giants and BFG loads his dream jars on the helicopters to bring back to England.
The giants are put into a deep pit and are fed snozzcumbers for the rest of their lives.
In the end, BFG learns to read and write and eventually writes the story of his life, which becomes this book.
