  • Today, we'll take a quick walk through on how to drip feed a Haas VF5 vertical mill using Cimco Editor and a null modem cable through the RS232 DNC function.
Remember, this is only one way to do things, and I'm by no means an expert - but this worked for me, so hopefully you can make it work for you!

    Good video.
    I'm the opposite.
I am that computer & electronics guy with NO shop/Machine experience.
Trying to learn more so I can help out my customers that have this stuff and need to get it all working.

Does that machine have a floppy drive? We have an 05 haas with just a floppy drive and if I turn on the dnc setting and put the floppy in, in mdi type in the program number and then hit mdi button again to get into dnc it drip feeds right from the floppy disc.

I just got a "new to me" milltronics partner 3D running Cinturion V and I have only used it in in JOG lol. I noticed in the software it had DNC listed. I'm hoping that means I can use some software and drip feed into this old 3 axis. I'd love to see this thing cut using all auto generated g-code.

Nice. Thanks for doing this. I have an old fanuc horizontal fanuc with rs232 to figure out. Will this work?

I would imagine so! Good luck, let me know how it works out!

So in terms of running the physical machine. Drip feed will stop once it has reached its potential max memory and wait for the machine to start running. Then, once the program starts executing it drips in new lines of code correct? If the program needs to be changed or go to a previous step, will this mess up the drip feed process? Thank you!

    Hello good afternoon
I have a HAAS machine and it has a problem when I load the programs, when the programs are long and I do not transfer them to the machine when the memory capacity is full.

Hey do you know how to run dnc on matssura 510 with yanas control?

So is drip feed something you would be comfortable with doing every time you want to run a program or is it just for long stuff? Looking at picking up an older CNC with the DNC option and just wondering.

I mean you definitely could run a drip feed every time you ran, but it’s not terribly practical for production work - I only use it on occasion when necessary but I wouldn’t buy an older machine without the option!

@@LetsMachine Fantastic, thanks for the reply.
I've not long bought a 1995 VF-0E and the manual goes into all sorts of depths about pin outs but if a null cable is all I need, brilliant!
(Guys I bought it off had an ethernet cable going to it, but didn't explain how they made it work)
