Everywhere I go, I take Garrett AiResearch on a little corner of my heart. Right out of school (San Diego State University, 1979), I joined the Company and did my very best at the Turbocharger Division, Repair and Overhaul ... until 1983, when we came back home in Israel. From Tel Aviv, I send my best wishes to everybody in beautiful California and USA.. that was our home 1976 - 1983 ... and was where my daughter and my son were born. Health, peace, progress and abundance to the American People..!! Amen..!!

Random question but does anyone have any photos from the 1950's-1960's time period? My grandfather Calvin August Schaefer was one of the technicians/ mechanics that worked on the Hovertrains. Would love more history/ photography of my beloved, now passed grandfather. Anything is appreciated. God bless.

I worked at the Garrett AiResearch at the LAX entrance on Sepulveda from 1958 to 1964. I met Cliff once. When I left I was a Production Control Supervisor in charge of all the expediters and coordinators for all products made at the LA plant.

The plant at the entrance of LAX had the largest machine shop west of the Mississippi. Before the Torrance plant was built we manufactured and built all the products there. It had a foundry, a heat treat facility, sheet metal shop, plating shop. It was an amazing facility.
If anyone has a picture of the LAX plant, please let me know. I can fly into Torrance and pick a copy up or I can call there and give you my email address.
