In regards to the world’s first AI chef: Please correct me if I’m wrong but I’m guessing this could be used to help picky eaters or people with intolerances/allergies. If someone was allergic to peanuts but wanted to eat peanut butter, a peanut butter could be made that tasted, smelled, had the texture of and had the same nutritional value as peanut butter but wouldn’t set off their allergies. Picky eaters could have their food tailored to their tastes so if for instance they didn’t like steak because it was too chewy, a steak alternative could be made that was exactly the same but less chewy. This could have some really cool uses! I’m looking forward to how this technology develops.
Predicting earthquakes is less of an A.I. issue, and more about our simple lack of ability to ACQUIRE THE NECESSARY DATA TO ACTUALLY PREDICT ANYTHING. Tectonic plates and fault lines are enormous, and span entire coastlines and even the globe... How can we possibly gain any adequate awareness of where plates are 'snagging', and what the nature of those snags are? -- The shape of the colliding rocks, the consistency of the surfaces (what kind of rocky material exists in any given edge of a plate?), along with dozens, if not hundreds of other factors which can influence the way 2 plates will interact. All of this information is simply outside of our ability to gather, monitor, or acquire. We also need to know EVERYTHING about the movements of all plates -- the precise direction they are heading in, and at what rate, with how much force, etc. It's kind of like trying to predict the weather without satellites, sensors, and thermometers scattered around the entire globe -- it can't be done without ALL the relevant data on hand.
