One thing I’m surprised about UTOPIA is that the songs that you wouldn’t expect to bump that much (THANK GOD, MODERN JAM, LOST FOREVER, HYAENA, etc..) have been in a lot of peoples top 20 raps songs. Thank God was in my top 3, when the album dropped I hated that song. They grow on you a lot.

A lot of rappers just has the same flow as other rappers, i havent heard anyone sound like Eminem but people don't comment on everybody using the same flow as other artists. Even though i'm not a fan of the choppy flow either in general it works on tracks like this, and i respect it HIS flow.
So just an observation; I noticed with all these high quality hip hop channels, the daily conversations is mainly about mainstream artists but when it come to enjoyment of the music, it almost always off kilter artists

I'm not fully disagreeing, there has been some absolute gems this year but as mainly a hip hop fan, there just hasn't been the quantity/quality of previous years. Maybe its recency bias as last year was one of the best for rap in the last few years imo.
Steppa Pig by JPEG and Danny was definitely my favourite rap song of the year it's just an insane experience every listen. Never Die by Nas and Lil Wayne and Nas Morales with Metro Booming were also major highlights.

For example, Honestly, Nevermind is my favorite Drake album since DLDT, by a wide margin. IDGAF what other people think about music LMAO. I like what I like. FATD is not a bad album by any means. I just think he hasn’t been the same in terms of quality after Scary Hours 2 (which was one of the best things he’s ever released).

@@streyy1740 FATD grew off me. A couple songs almost made my top 10: Members Only and 7969 Santa. Overall incredibly weak year for hip-hop, including Drake.

@@streyy1740 Definitely not. At first I enjoyed it more because of the novelty effect. Then I realized it’s not his best work. For example, Honestly, Nevermind is my favorite Drake album since DLDT, by a wide margin. IDGAF what other people think about music LMAO. I like what I like.
FATD is not a bad album by any means. I just think he hasn’t been the same in terms of quality after Scary Hours 2 (which was one of the best things he’s ever released).
