    Your review is always awesome. You go direct to what people need to see when deciding prior to a purchase. I’m in search of a new MIDI controller to replace my sickening M Audio Oxygen 49 Blue which keep doing phantom pitch bends, out of tune nonsense. Thanks for this review help me a lot in narrowing my choice.

    I bought a 49 key this weekend. I agree with you on your "desktop" comment. Probably the only downsides are that Ableton downloads were pretty slow (that could be due to holiday traffic volume) and the keys are spring loaded and unweighted. But, for the price, I didn't expect weighted keys.

    Great review Rueben. I am a guitarist who does midi tracks for my live solo work. I have used an 80's DX7 as a midi controller for 20 years but need to downsize because of space in my room. This 49 key looks perfect... i was looking at the 25 key model but the keys are like a size for little children's fingers lol!
    Can you please confirm that this one definitely had full size keys? Thanks again mate for you great review. Wayne (Queensland Australia)

    the best review exploring all the options available.....I hav a question, I was looking forward to buy it chruch purposes, and for private use as well. So is it necessary to plugin to a PC or an Ipad everytime....or will it b able to produce basic Piano sounds on its own???

    • @reubenchng

      Yes its necessary to plug it into an iPad or PC. The MIDI controller is merely a controller. It controls your DAW

    Hey! Thanks for your prompt response! I'm a hobbyist and film editor by profession. I want to do basic sound design and score spotting for which I want to learn keyboard as well as a programming with logic X. I intend to use a keyboard for the next 3 years at-least. Wanted to start with a sub 200$ board short listed the following
    1) Maudio oxygen 49 m4
    2) Novation lauchkey 49 m2
    3) nektar impact lx+ 49
    4) casio ctk 3500
    Would really appreciate if you could guide as there are rarely any comparison videos and stuff like that to make some decision.

    • @reubenchng
      @reubenchng  7 лет назад

      Forget the Casio.
      Get the Novation or the Oxygen. They offer great support, so you want to go with companies that offer great support.
      MIDI controllers will last you a long long while, more than 3+ years.
      No worries there.

    hey nice video. really simple explanation which is what I needed. However, I notice that there are several midi controllers. Do you know the difference between this version and the novation impulse 49? I'm just like your video, play some synths, some bass lines, drums and my guitar to create a mix of indie pop/rock/electronic music (e.g. mix of the national and porter robinson to give you an example).

    Very cool review! I'm just getting started in producing my own EDM/pop/hip hop style music and I was told this controller would be a good start. I will be using Ableton Live most likely. What laptop do you have? And what studio speakers are those? Also have you heard of the software Massive By Native Instruments? That has tons of sound effects I wanna get into. Would that work for this as well? I really don't want to be limited, I know I am a beginner but I want access to as many diverse sounds as possible. Thanks for any advice from anyone!
    Subscribed.

    • @shivam_musician
      @shivam_musician 6 лет назад +1

      Ian Michael Massive is a synth. An old one at that. You can't get anything organic out of it. Try u-he Diva for rich creamy analog synth sounds if your PC can handle the load. Also, check out Kontakt libraries (Native Instruments, and third parties) for tons and tons and tons of samples of just about anything you can imagine recorded in pristine detail and quality (hollywood films are scored that way!). For EDM and dance, you have bigfishaudio and other companies focused on that stuff. For trailer music, hybrid orchestral or sound design music, you have Audio Imperia, Damage, Keepforest and whatnot. Lots of things out there. Massive really pales in comparison, unless you know how to move beyond its presets and actually know how to synthesize the sound you hear in your head into massive. That's a field in itself, called sound designing. Without knowing your way around sound designing and at least subtractive synthesis, you might as well feel lost and may have already given up after 10 months, by now.

    Hello
    thank you for your videos they are always very useful.
    I have a question for you and it would be super cool if you could answer me.
    I am an amateur in the field of electronic music, I just bought a launchkey 49 novation.
    I plugged it into my laptop dell e6410 with fl studio 20 demo for the moment.
    it lights up and the studio recognizes it in midi seting and it comes out well the sounds that I put in the pattern.
    my only problem is that I am forced to press very very hard on the keys of the keyboard so that the sound is loud enough to be heard, the less you hit the more the sound is weak and the more you hit the sound is strong and it's very annoying because it prevents me from playing because you have to really hard to type a sound "normal" (I have good speakers).
    my question;
    HOW TO MAKE THE SOUND ALWAYS THE SAME LEVEL TO NOT HAVE TO TAPER VERY STRONG ON THE KEYBOARD?
    OR MUST I SET THIS PARAMETER?
    I thank you in advance for your answer
    Tom

  • @TheOfficialRemiMoore
    @TheOfficialRemiMoore 5 лет назад

    I have the launchkey 49. I love it! I like having a full size keyboard and it works great. The keybed isn't as heavy as I would like but its very playable to be under 200 bucks its well worth the value. If you like mini keys I would say just grab the mini 25 key. Great for ableton. Works as a midi on most daws I have tried but works best with ableton live in my opinion since its tailored for that daw.

    • @TheOfficialRemiMoore
      @TheOfficialRemiMoore 5 лет назад +1

      @@luis.vuitton It really is. You can play and split the keyboard and you have drum pads so its perfect for beats and piano/synth/keys. The 49 is good for me for the octave range. My only regret is not getting a 77 key. The keys are great, its velocity sensitive, and the keybed is ok. I think its one of the best for the buck.

    • @TheOfficialRemiMoore
      @TheOfficialRemiMoore 5 лет назад +1

      No built in speaker it needs your computer to make the sounds. It connects via usb and I think most of them come with the lite version of ableton live so you can use it to record or make some live beats.

    Newbie here. Would you recommend this or the Samson Graphite 49 to get? This would be my first keyboard purchase btw. I mainly use Mainstage 3 (no pun intended) since I play more live music than studio production, and so I'm willing to try out Ableton Live Lite as well. So far I'm leaning more towards the Launchkey, but the aftertouch in the Graphite 49 is quite tempting. Do you think aftertouch is worth to get? Or is the Launchkey better for live performance? Thanks in advance

    • @kavinm3659
      @kavinm3659 6 лет назад

      Obviously the launchkey. Ableton is created for live performances. All the best. Just add a launchpad mini or just use the pads on the launchkey to create a live looping setup which everyone will dig. Ableton is the best live performing rig and launchkey is made to integrate perfectly with ableton and is strong and stable with no bugs and latency. Go for it

    Again late to the party BUT< everyone praising Reuben's accent: His accent is from Maylasia / Singapore. I'm sure. I lived in Singapore 1.5 years. ENGLISH IS OFFICIAL LANGUAGE THERE M***NS... they are part of the commonwealth nations and drive on the left side of the road - right-side steering wheels. Like in England. Hence, his English gotta be great. As many Malaysians.. duh! Great review as well :-)

    Hi! any help on the below issue will be a great help.
    I have brought Novation Lunchkey61 MK2 almost a year ago, it was working completely fine, but recently I m facing issue with Ableton.
    The last key i.e 61st key in launchkey is not working with Ableton, Don't know why.
    However, when I use this keyboard with other music software like synthesia, other than ableton it works completely fine. That means keyboard is completely fine. Have some issue with Ableton.
    Any help on this please. I m getting frustrated, no other info available online.

    Great video! Would you recommend this 49 version or the 25 version for more electronic or hip hop music that may not require playing chords? Thanks!

      I'd spring for the 49 just for the value. The 25 would work for what you want but having the extra stuff for the price difference to me. I bought the 49 and havent complained once!

    How's the quality of the nobs/sliders/pads? Some controllers I looked at had issues in this department.

    i got my launchkey49 MK2 just now and it came just with the usb cable.is that enough power to hear those keys playing music or not?imean those white and black buttons to compose music.my one doesnt give any sounds

    • @reubenchng
      @reubenchng  4 года назад

      sounds like you've mistaken to what a MIDI controller is. It's not a music keyboard that produces sounds.
      It's a 'controller' that sends in MIDI data to your computer, and controls your composition software.
