Luger P08

  • The Luger was developed from the Borchardt C93 by Georg Luger at the German DWM works. Several variants were produced leading to the Luger P08 model, which was adopted by the German Army in 1908. The P08 fired the 9mm parabellum cartridge.
    The Luger retains the Borchardt’s jointed arm (or knee joint) to lock the breech. When the gun is fired, the barrel and breech recoil within the pistol frame until the toggle handle rides up an inclined ramp on the frame. This breaks the lock , allowing the breech to open and eject the spent cartridge. Animation created using Cinema 4D. Music credits are shown at the end of the movie.

    Only thing this video isn't good at doing is telling you how fast this is all happening and you pull the trigger.
    It's insane that kind of punishments a gun puts itself through

    • @vbbsmyt
      @vbbsmyt  7 лет назад +4

      Note sure quite what you are asking. When the cartridge is fired, the barrel and breech block start to recoil (0:36). At that point the recoil force is above the pivot connecting the two toggle arms, so the 'knee-joint' is locked. The toggle hits the ramp at rear and breaks the 'knee-joint' alignment so that the toggle can fold back (0:37). As it does so, a lever on the front arm pulls back the firing pin (red). In the scene from 0:50 to 0:59, you see the sear lever (purple) being released by the trigger, allowing the firing pin to spring forward. The sear springs back into position so that as the breech is pulled forward by the main spring in the handle, it catches on the firing pin, and holds it back until the trigger is released and pulled again. Hope this helps. Rob

      The Borchardt C93 was released to the market around 1893, when Borchardt startef working for Ludwig Löwe (DWM) he refused to improve his gun even if sprouted interests especially by the Swiss, so the company commissioned the work to Georg Luger who worked on it for a while. The gun was released in 1903/04 and adopted by the German Kriegsmarine as the P04 Naval model, then in 1908 it got some improvements and was adopted by the land army.

    • @vbbsmyt
      @vbbsmyt  7 лет назад +3

      The green piston prevents more than one shot being fired when trigger is pulled. Piston is part of the sear, which rotates to release the bolt to fire a round. The sear then recoils, but when it returns, the trigger is stilled pulled, so piston retracts into sear until the trigger is released. Then it springs out underneath the trigger arm, ready for next shot. Hope this explains all. Rob
