Oh they have a few filler songs, imo. THe super slow stuff on previous albums was just "meh" to me. The 4 singles from the upcoming album are spot on, though.
@@RandomApexLootbox i get what you mean. I personally wouldn’t call them “filler songs” though. I know they might not be everyone’s cup of tea. Some of them require a certain state of mind to really appreciate them. There were a few I couldn’t really get into at first, but went back to later and it just hit differently. 🤷🏻♀️
Exactly. There were a bunch that I wasn’t that into the first time through. Hypnosis was one. I had never even heard of them, but they opened a show I went to last year. Higher hooked me. I was intrigued and they stole the show, for me. Now, I love Hypnosis, Alkaline, even The Love You Want and on, and on. Even the ones I don’t necessarily love, I can appreciate.

I love how collectively EVERYBODY vibes to the outro of the song. It's so seductive and such a great contrast to the heavy first part of the song. I'm glad more bands are blending genres together.
Really like that you noticed they repeated lyrics from the earlier part in the funk outro, and both fit so well. Not a lot of reactors I've seen have acknowledged that.

You guys mentioned that you couldn't really hear the vocals as well as you want. Sleep Token did that intentionally. They mix their music so every piece is equally as important and no one part is more important than another. As opposed to most pop music quieting the track and letting the vocals be front and center. I think that's why people love ST because they don't miss in any category!
This. You gotta selectively listen to different aspects on multiple runs.
This band is so underrated, and I’m glad they’re finally getting the recognition they deserve! Vessel is such a phenomenal vocalist-his scale runs, the way he enunciates the lyrics, the soulfulness in his singing-brilliant! Vessel II’s drumming is soo fucking good!!!

I have been impatiently waiting for y'all to do ST since you did Will Ramos' cover of Hypnosis. They've blown up with Summoning this month. You never know what you're going to get with these guys musically, I can see y'all getting into them. Welcome to the rabbit hole 😂
To give some more background though I'm positive you're going to get a lot of people elaborating on the band: Sleep Token is an anonymous collection of musicians. The band lore goes that they're united in worship of an ancient deity only known as Sleep who appeared to Vessel, the singer, in a dream. The songs are taken to be sort of offerings or rituals to her. Bit or genuine belief, all members are masked, cover themselves in body paint, and Vessel at least has never spoken on stage. There's so much symbolism in their music, a whole section of the Discord is dedicated to hashing it all out. They've done one interview, email only, with Loudwire several years ago and iterated not to think of genre when it comes to them. Musically, that tracks. They'll do switch ups like this in their music, but Summoning is probably the most switch-y of their tracks in my opinion. They'll go anywhere from metalcore sounds to funk to R&B to some pretty gorgeous piano ballads to jazz and beyond. Sundowning is their first album, it's phenomenal. This Place Will Become Your Tomb is their second, also great. And the recent singles are believed from a leaked tracklist to be part of an upcoming album Take Me Back to Eden.
I'm a pretty genre-fluid person when it comes to what I listen to so that's why they appeal to me a lot, and from watching y'all you seem to enjoy or at least appreciate that stuff which is why I'd hazard you'll like some of their other songs. You'll get the running lists of recommended songs so I won't repeat them, but they haven't had a song I haven't liked, so if you do look more into them, it should all be pretty good! The few music videos they have are also trippy. Happy listening!
The production on this album is spectacular. Its also crazy thst Vessel is playing all the instruments but drums as well.

That's not as uncommon as you'd think, not to take away from Vessel from being someone that can do it. Prince, Beck, Trent Reznor from Nine Inch Nails, Kim Dracula, Dave Grohl on the first Foo Fighters album, Damon Albarn from Gorillaz, Brendon Small. Just a few off the top of my head.

I'm so glad your introduction to Sleep Token was The Summoning. It was my first listen on the album too. It's transformative. It's got the sickest guitar riffs and solos, tight ass drumming and a slappy funky chunky bass. What more can you ask for really?
Brooooo you got a do “Granite” “Aqua Regia” and “Chokehold” by these guys, not only are they bangers but you will get a better understanding of how much range this band has, they are literally on another level. Thanks for the upload! Worship.

Heavier songs from them would be The offering, Higher, Hypnosis and Gods. They have a really diverse catalog and the lore of the band is really interesting.
They don’t always do this, but they can do anything and do it well. You really never know what you’re going to get when you listen to Sleep Token. Worship.
The commentary at the end about them all having different sounds they want for the song is so funny because the only people who wrote/played on the album are Vessel and II 😂

Lore time with Sleep Token nerd: Vessel is now with the lover he encountered in Chokehold. He’s got a “river running right into (them)” or a “blood trail, red in the blue” which indicates there’s blood in that river, despite him being tied to them. The chorus is Vessel accepting the other person as a lover, saying he wants them, to ascend as lovers with them. (this info is not mine)

Gentlemen. I am really enjoying your reactions. This old disabled veteran has a long time favorite 'christian' band called project 86 that have been together for over 25 years. I've met the lead singer and he's not only a very talented writer but he's also a pretty stellar human being.
They just released two songs called 'metatropolis' and another called '0 is greater than 1.'
Songs themselves are about the future of humankind and the dangers of transhumanism. The videos are incredible and it's the heaviest stuff to date for the band.
I would love for you guys to review these two songs not only because it would bring more exposure to project 86 as a band but it would forever cement my love for your channel.

I think because this song is so complex, they keep the music video basic so it isn’t overstimulating. It allows you to feel the music without being visually distracted

The song that got me into Sleep Token was The Offering they did shit like this and it got me hooked a few years ago. A lot of their music to me just ugh makes me feel like I can make stories out of it. Totally recommend you guys listening to it I'd think you'd really like it. They play with genre all the time, and they never miss! I recommend checking out their other new songs like Granite or Aqua Regia to get a feel for just how diverse this band is - their old stuff is just as magnificent.

holy shit. i was not too impressed initially, but once this song was complete -- it's on the playlist!! I LOVE this trend of no singular sound/genre bands are doing. I heard Alkaline before this and loved it, so when this was so different, I was like wait...what? But a full listen really makes this song take shape and it's beautiful.

Yo, the whole album is taking you to church. The gospel influence is STROOONG. II even said he was massively influenced by gospel drums and describes his current style as linear gospel + Abe Cunningham Deftones heavy groove.

Y'all have heard a sleep token song before cuz you watched Will Ramos cover it and y'all loved it. So y'all should have kinda known what the band kinda sounds like. And you definitely need to do more cuz they are fucking amazing the one that dropped after this one is really good too and I think Eric will like it cuz it's got a lil more of a hip hop r and b sound to it and vessel giving a lil attitude in it, it's called granite and it's probably my fave out of the 4 songs they drop in the last month.

So excited for Ya’ll to fall down this rabbit hole. Sleep Token has some formulas they do very well but they are also very good at doing something you don’t expect. They don’t really stick to one genre. They do whatever they want and they do it fucking WELL. Every song is an experience. All the new singles feel like them going “we can do anything. And we will.” Lmao some of my favorites are Granite, The Night Does Not Belong to God, and Give. But any of the new singles are worthy! Any song really. I’m obsessed. 😂😂😂

FINALLY. Been hoping you guys would come back to Sleep Token after hearing Will Ramos' Hypnosis cover. They're a band that do a lot of experimental things, but of their material so far this is comfortably the wackiest. Shit is fire though. I really hope you guys come back to this band, especially on later listens they really colonise your brain.
