It's not just the sword but the fact they made the gameplay even feel close to the gritty style of fantasy fighting of Berserk that makes it stand out among its peers.
I like the game but he is not gut by an long shot,he just have his sword. In the manga guts spin around,swing his sword probably at regular swordsman speed but with rapid rates and also have the semi crossbow on his arm plus arm cannon which is used for range. If guts was an dark souls/elder ring boss he would be hard as hell even for elder rings standards.
I love how this weapon became more and more of an obvious Berserk weapon with each game it appears in. In DSI it did look similar to the Dragonslayer but was relatively thin, in DSII and DSIII its thickness was, like, tripled and thus now looked even more like the Dragonslayer, and now, in Elden Ring even its description blatantly references Berserk. I also love how it was always simply called the “Greatsword” in spite of never even being in the standard greatsword weapon class (being either an ultra greatsword or a colossal sword). It’s as if Miyazaki was labeling Miura’s creation as THE greatsword.
To the people screaming "You didn't meet the requirements" in his chat: Most of the time, if you two-hand a weapon, you'll gain extra STR based on your current STR level. Read the pop-up next time you equip a sword like that.
I think the equation is to divide the requirement by 3 then multiply that by 2 and that's the requirement to 2 hand weapons, the stat on the weapons are for 1 handing

Considering that the creator of Berserk passed, I think it’s only fitting that not only is the sword and almost direct, note for note nod to Guts two swords stylistically, but it absolutely SLAPS. This is almost inarguably the best collossal sword. The range, the damage, the customizability. A great tribute to one of the most beloved pieces of art that may never be finished.
Having an guts like boss would serve better of an tribute then the sword but if the developer made the boss too accurate to guts then players wouldn't be able to beat gut unless with magic which still will be difficult if you count in the super human speed guts can move at. And too inaccurate and a bunch of angry fans would cancel culture the game lol.
@@LowIntSpecimen I killed him he is hardly difficult to kill.If you read the manga (I am not finished with it) guts is incredibly scary do to his sword weighted 220 pounds and he swings it like an normal sword, sword cuts like it have an edge when really it's too wide to cute and he have an arm cannon plus automatic crossbow to shoot at range. So the manga guts is basically an anime doom guy with an BFS instead of an BFG .
I love how the surrounding area is also just Berserk. The area where the soldiers are fighting the dogs is pretty sick. You can ride up, drag this sword on the ground with your heavy attack, and fling them in the air while they're all fighting.
When I first got the sword. i had a playlist of backround music. When I opened the chest. Guts's theme started playing. It was a moment where I felt every emotion at once.
Whats funny is I ended up getting this SUPER early in the game. Ended up opening a chest near the start of the game in some tomb that ended up being a trap and it brought me to the area Asmon was at in this video very early on. So I did some exploring while trying to escape the area following the main path out of there when I came across this wagon with the chest. I was really weak at the time (probably about lv 15-16 maybe) but discovered you can actually bait the giant crow and 2 dogs into the fires nearby using my mount to out run and damage them. Basically aggro them and get them to run through the fire by standing on the opposite of it when they try to kill you and dodge as best you can rinse and repeat until they die. Another thing to note is the dogs and crow can damage eachother as well if you have them all grouped up. Took about 8-10 min. but was totally worth it!

Found the greatsword on the first day, still using the same one after 70+ hours later. Although along the journey I have found a lot of different weapons but greatsword is still the only one for me. Nothing else is cooler than guts dragon slayer. The only thing I’m upset about is upon finding the bloodhound’s fang, the weapon skill is a unique one and attached only to that particular weapon, it would be so fucking cool if you can equip the bloodhound finesse as ashes of war on the greatsword, that would really make a guts cosplay perfect
u won't regret it, game is fucking 10/10. If you're new to the genre, please persevere, it can get severe rage inducing in the first 5 hrs or so, but trust me, it's worth pushing.

Berserk is one of the few anime/manga stories that kinda “transcends” the rest of the medium imo. It’s gets so much praise that even people who don’t really like anime or manga could get into berserk

I dont watch much Anime as I've gotten older, but I followed the Berserk manga for years online...That final chapter with Guts and Casca on that island and seeing Griffith in the flesh. All three of them finally come face to face and... Then he passed away :-( ...We may never know how that amazing story *truly* was meant to end... RIP Kentaro Miura

So I did a little digging, and this sword strongly resembles the same sword Guts used when he saves Griffith from the dungeon, so right before the eclipse. I find that pretty great because that timeline coincides with the prisoner class and Griffith being tortured. It’s not the dragon slayer, but I think that’s sick because golden age was kind of a prequel to everything and so is elden ring.

He never used it on his entire run. Double halberd jumping attacks were simply way too good compared to the simple Greatsword.
The jump attack looks like it feels so good to do. I can't wait to play this game.

Currently in the progress of getting an ending only using the greatsword and Blaidd's armour just because it's made so well and feels so much like how the dragon slayer would feel.
