      Backing Ukraine has nothing to do with underdog, Russia is trying to destroy Western civilization, how can this be missed(shady).
      To not point this out is to push Kremlin disinformation…
      "I want to warn Americans”
      "As a people, you are very naive about Russia and its intentions. You believe because the Soviet Union no longer exists, Russia is now your friend. It isn't, and I can show you how the SVR [formerly KGB] is trying to destroy the U.S. even today and even more than the KGB did during the Cold War."
      “the Cold War never ended." The American people, however, are not fond of listening.”

      @lbb101 Год назад +3

      @@rafomic4210 "Slava Ukraini" was first used in a poem by Taras Shevchenko in the 1840s. Shevchenko is intellectually at the root of the Ukrainian independence/national movement which occurs at that time - like others. For example in Germany. It predates Nationalsocialism as political movement by 80 years.
      As a battle cry it appears 1917 to 1921 in the Ukrainian War Of Independence in the form of "Glory to Ukraine!" - "Glory to the Cossacks!" by the Black Zaporozhians fighting on the side of the Ukrainian People's Republic. After the assumption of power by Hetman Pavlo Skoropadskyi and the answer turned into "Glory to the hetman" ... after some more iterations, it turned to "Glory to the heroes!". It was used by OUN through time, while Ukrainian nationalists fought against the Soviets many of them later fought the Nazis, too. And some collaborated with the Nazis for some time, before realizing that won't give them an independent Ukraine and then turned against the Nazis. The Soviets outlawed the term. As they oppressed anything representing the idea of an independent Ukrainian nation state.
      During the Euromaidan the popularity of the term surged. Being used by everyone from right wing groups to LGBTQ+ groups using a variation. It became the official greeting of the Ukrainian Army in 2018 during Petro Poroshenko presidency.
      So the history of the term is long. And history is messy. Your quick association mirrors Soviet propaganda more than the actual history of the term.

    • @ZackBadCompany1234
      @ZackBadCompany1234 Год назад

      @lbb101 I know you just gave a long wided explanation purposely leaving out the whole entire Stepan Bandera time in history and the fact that Slava ukraini was used in a neo nationalist manner more than it ever was a "battle cry" for 1800's independence. Pretty slippery of you to attempt to hide under the rug the blatant racist nationalist "current" history of that chant. Don't claim someone is only adhering to "russian propaganda" when you are blatantly peddling ukrainian propaganda. That " battle cry" as much as you will try to say its not a bad thing. Unfortunately it has been adopted by to many bad moments and bad people to be believed as something good for the world. I seen footage of the burning alive in odessa. I seen those Ukrainian men screaming Slava ukraini as they beat a man's head in with a pipe after he jumped from a 3 story window escaping the flames. And then like a pack of dogs they viciously beat his dead body

    • @lbb101
      @lbb101 Год назад +1

      @@ZackBadCompany1234 well, the history of the Ukrainian national/independence movement is long, complicated and messy. Even within OUN-M and OUN-B you'll find significant political shifts. (see: Motyka, Grzegorz (2006).[Ukrainian partisans 1942-1960. Activities of the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists and the Ukrainian Insurgent Army] (in Polish). Warsaw.). So your bucket judgement isn't working, it's compley and messy. For a good overview, I highly recommend Serhii Plokhy's books "The Gates of Europe: A History of Ukraine." and "The Origins of the Slavic Nations: Premodern Identities in Russia, Ukraine, and Belarus."
      And just as messy is the etymology of the term "Slava Ukraini".
      That said, if ultranationalism and antisemitism is your issue, I wouldn't bet on Russia to fix it. More than 100,000 Russians and Belarussian collaborated with the Nazis, just as many as Ukrainians: 1st SS Cossack Cavalry Division, XV SS Cossack Cavalry Corps, 600th Infantry Division (Wehrmacht), Kaminski Brigade, First Russian National Army, Russian Liberation Movement, Russian National People's Army etc. pp.
      And today?
      The top brass of Wagner is a Neonazi named Dimitri "Wagner" Utkin. He features funky SS-Tattoos and just his call sign, which named the group because he likes - I wrote "Hiteler's favorite composer". Task Force Rusich now incorporated in Wagner is founded and manned by Neonazs. The Russian Imperial Legion/Russian Imperial Movement not only recruited Neonazis from all over Europe but provided political and military training to fascist and neonates groups all over Europe and North America. The list of recipients include NPD (Germany), Nuevo Forza (Italy), Atomwaffen Division (EU, UK, US), The Base (EU, UK, US), Party of Swedes, Golden Dawn (Greece), Nordic Distance Movement (Scandinavia). Let's move on. The Sparta Battalion happily boasted runes and neonazi symbology. Zarya Battalion is led by the open anti-semite Igor Plotnitsky. Interbrigades recruited national-bolsheviks all over Europe.
      Those units between 2014 and 2022 had support and fighters from Jovan Šević Detachment (Serbian ultranationalist), Bulgaria Orthodox Dawn (Bulgarian nazis/ultrannationalists), Legion of Saint Stephen (Hungarian nazis), the neonazi Volunteer brigade Varyag Battalion run by Alexander Matyushin, another Neo-nazi, and the former head of Donetsk Russkiy Obraz, DShRG Ratibor some more ultranationalists ...
      In short, almost half of the People's Militias of the People's Republics are led by ultranationalists, Neo-nazis, Neo-imperialists, fascists, and antisemites. And yes, the torture and murders and use of sexual violence of People's Militias is documented by the UN, OECD, and NGOs. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Humanitarian_situation_during_the_war_in_Donbas
      In short: If you want to fight nazis in Ukraine, your best chance is to remove all those Russian led Neonazi groups/militias. Which in turn outnumber extreme right, fascists and neonates on the Ukrainian by magnitudes. Like multiple times more.
      So yep, recent history leads the argument of denazification ad absurdum. One doesn't denazify by employing dozens of fascist and ultranationalist militia groups ....
      So maybe Russia starts with denazifying itself.

    I don’t give a shit what Brandon says, he is a true hero. He has repeatedly put himself in danger before others and keeps going back although he can call enough anytime. He knows he presents and speaks well and he’s smart enough to use those skills to raise money to buy crucial equipment for his brigade and many others. Taking on that kind of a role especially as a foreigner, every volunteer is a hero. I’ve seen many of his interviews with his colleagues and friends and they are the same. Slava Brandon and all like him.

    What did he say 40-50 % in Russia doesn't have plumbed water inside? Well in the US ~ 40 million people needs to use foodstamps because they don't afford food. And in Sweden 1 million people are on anti depressant, about 1 million people are on financial support, which means they don't work or just work part time, it is a disaster really. I can answer to Willy's question "if the people care where the border lines are drawn btw Ukraine and russia". Sure they are, because that line is really define you either as a slave or as a free person who is responsible for his/her own life. Just to imagine that, put yourself right now into North Korea and ask that question again. Only people who inherited this freedom and take it for granted could ask this questions, those who experienced it, would never do.

    9:34 see this is why I dont like Willy. He always sneaks those little diggs: ruzzia was “alwayas portrayed as a villain”- only a Westener could possibly say that 🙄 we in central Eastern Europe were trying to tell the truth about Putin, but the west didn’t want to listen, he would be praised and hosted in the West like a hero. There’s a journalists Krystyna Kurczab-Redlich who lived for decades in russia and she even wrote his true biography (much different then official ones). She was describing a moment when she was in UK with a documentary about what ruzzians did in Chechnya and when they were leaving the theater they saw a parade where Putin was driven around London sitting next to the queen in the car like a hero. Grown Chechen man we’re looking at it with tears. Here they are trying to raise awareness about Putin’s crimes and here’s Putin being hosted like a hero next to the queen. And here’s Willy thinking it’s really unfair they’ve been painted as a villain 🧐 in few too many movies. Cry me a River! if anything they haven’t been villainized enough!
    You say Ukraine had advantage over ruzzia, becuse ruzzia was traditionally always villainized , well why then nobody supported Ukraine in 2014 when that war actually started huh? Maybe people finally turned against ruzzia because they’re actually evil And they saw it in all its glory?!

    Well, there is a lot of "philosophy" from Willy, but here is one thing: Russians have been targeting random civilian cars and other non-combatants at huge scale, even the cases that made it into the public - there is huge pile of video proof.
    And the exact reason WHY people take guns with them while having a red cross or doing humanitarian things - is because Russians don't care and violate all of the possible rules of war, and you need at least something to defend yourself.
    This argument would have been a good one, if we were talking about a country with at least some respect to the rules of war - but that's not the case in the war, when one nations tries to wipe another out from exsitace after being brainwashed by propaganda (which they selected, there were competing narratives used by Kremlin in Russia, but the one we see for years - has won 10 to 1)
    It doesn't matter if you have guns in your trunk - you can't see that from your drone that's correcting the artillery fire.
    It's too much philosophy from a comfort of your chair, not really diving into the context and understanding what Russia and Russians really are.
    The whole phrase "the start of the war was shocking" - it wasn't shocking for most who understood Russia here in Ukraine, and we've been telling that this will happen for years.
    However, some sort of tolerant prism in the West and completely stereotypical understanding of both Ukraine and Russia was it the way of seeing this coming.
