#86: "The Sands of Oxus" by Sadriddin Aini (Tajikistan, 1949)

A celebrated Tajik-Soviet writer (yes, celebrated and awarded even within the Soviet Union) writing about the really old days before the Bolsheviks, and it was far more interesting than I ever imagined.
I also forgot to talk about the title word of Oxus - is that related to the "forgotten" ancient empire of this region? A future rabbit hole there.
