Traveled there maybe 20 times. I don't go anymore unless I go with a bunch of friends. Keep your eyes open, don't go anywhere alone and keep a low profile. Have a blast!

Have fun in Mexico Maddie! Love following your travels. If someone else is traveling to Mexico (or another country) and wants a couple other tips... If you're American and you are going to travel out of the country and want to avoid those fees. I would look into getting a credit card with no foreign transaction rates (like Chase Saphire, but there are others). I'd also set up an account with Charles Schwab (or another bank or credit union that doesn't charge atm fees) so you can take out money from ATMs and not be charged. Otherwise, you can be hit with two fees anytime you take cash out one from the bank you borrow from and another from your bank. Also smart to email a copy of all your important docs to yourself, plus any numbers to call for your bank, cc, and insurance so that if something happens you always have access to the info. If something does happen it takes away one hassle of having to look up all that info. The last thing I'd recommend if driving is to have a decoy stash. An old laptop and some cash hidden somewhere that can be easily found - but not too easy- so that if you do get robbed they think they found your valuables. Hope this helps someone!

I was in Mexico, north to south, in 1976. It was great. Paid off police twice and no issues. That said, you could not pay me enough to go into Mexico today. Nope, nope, nope. Good luck.
Debit cards are a big no from me. If your card info gets stolen, your bank account can get drained before you know what happened. Credit cards are the way to go!

Don't pay fees! Charles Schwab has a FREE checking account that reimburses for all fees, including domestic/international ATM and Foreign Exchange Fees. Get a travel credit card (Capital One Venture and Chase Sapphire are popular). They do have annual fees but they can be easily offset by all the other benefits they offer!

Love this! My only comment is don’t feed greenies to your dog, google it they cause serious health issues and don’t actually do much as far as cleaning teeth since they have a lot of sugar in them. Keep your pup safe for lots of future adventures!!
