Aldi here in edinburgh usually has packs of five dk that I ve knitted lots of cardigan s etc with but this time was just single balls and not much of any I just found you and enjoying ur tutorials as been a knitter 65years but quite new to crochet

Have just been to my local Aldi, plenty on offer, got blue, mache and cream in DK, white in the Aran and cream in the chunky, have to do a bit of deep diving to find colours I wanted and no yarn cakes. I make blankets for the baby bank so this will be very economical to make up a few more. Thanks for the heads up.

Alas, the 'lady' in front of me pushed her trolley to block the yarn. Then took a trolley full. Then smiled at me and said tough! 2 balls of grey was left. I justcried and left the store.
That rainbow cake yarn you put on screen, on the aldi website says its delayed, along with the chenille baby yarn. I had asolutely no idea there was a yarn event, went in to Aldi to do shopping yesterday morning and was met with two massive displays of the dk, aran and chunky yarn. I got three skeins of the shocking pink in the end :)
The chunky actually looks like super chunky on the internet. I’ll pop along to the shop tomorrow but it will probably be all gone by then. Sometimes the acrylics can split and they are not too good. Remember it doesn’t bio degrade so it will be around forever.

This morning (30th Sept. '24) he managed to get me a lot more, and two of each: Pink/Lilac, and Multi Rainbow yarn cakes. Black, White, and Cobalt Aran yarn skeins. Matcha, and Orange DK yarn skeins. 🤯 They had no yarn bowls in at all 😭, and that's the primary thing I was after 😞.

I just chained it as long as I wanted and double crocheted along. I changed colour every row. I'm making a video of all my Aldo makes and will show what I did in it ❤️

I have a couple from somewhere else (when they were only £1) I really like them because I can fold the baskets close with the yarn inside and carry them around the house.
It's never too late to learn. Or too young to start. Some great beginner tutorials on RUclips. I'm teaching my grandchildren she's 7& he's 8! I learned age 5. I'm 58 and learned to crochet 2 years ago through RUclips.
What to make? Gurrrlll sock yarn i use it to make Mandala cardigans. Spring, fall temps. Ive never made a sock with it. I would take chunky yarn and ?ake a double throw with it. Large enough for you both to be on the couch and cover up comfortably. Just my idea.
I asked today and the assistant told me if it's a delayed item they're not given a date of when it will arrive in store so they have no idea when it'll be there 🙁
Aldis prices are good for yarn but I actually think their yarn is not very soft. I much prefer Home Bargains yarn and usually pick up some each week. 😊

I suppose it’s all 100% acrylic yarn, which is basically plastic. Doesn’t do much for keeping you warm, peels, looks bad after washing. Really just a waist of work and time to use it for hand knitting garments. Ok for toys, but not for human skin. Please, pay a bit more for natural fibers, feel warm, comfortable and use your creations with a pleasure 🧶🤗❤️

Aldi in Germany has only sock yarn once or twice a year. None if the skeins you showed.

I discovered the chunky yarn pulls apart and spins into a great thinner yarn, it makes a base for wool features. Terrifficfor craftingon a budget.
I did notice it being a bit splitty when I made my scarf yesterday. It is wonderfully soft though 😁

tbh I've always found Aldis yarn quite bad, it's cheaply made, holds up badly and the colours are always naff
The only one I've liked is when they do Aran with wool in 400g balls. Limited colours but I made a nice Aran blanket with it.
