I remember this. I'm an Irish republican I met. miner's collecting money for their families in Kelly's cellars bar in Belfast. They were just over nothing to do with us, having a pint together in friendship. No planned meeting the RUC ( royal Ulster constabulary) pulled up with three Jeeps raided the pub ignored us republicans and dragged the miners out, stripped them in public outside the bar searched them as if they were us . Never forgot that night. My brother in law was shot same night I went up to see him in RVH hospital with a miner who try tried to degrade the night before remember that miner with two black eyes .😢looking on Jim in the hospital bed and with a wicked sense of Yorkshire humour saying " Jimmy you shouldn't have crossed the picket line " , that's a bit more black country joke than it sounds Jimmy was shot fetching a bucket of coal for the fire in a sectarian attack. This was a moment the wounds of English Irish conflict were forgot and we both knew we had a common enemy. The woman who allowed my friends to die on hunger strike and starved miners children. Long live Yorkshire. Yorkshire go bragh.. as an Irish republican I'm sorry for any Yorkshire man who died in Ireland. I apologise the monsters that sent them hated both of us. What could you do in Yorkshire be a miner or a soldier. I met both and was sorry for both.

@@MarkHarrison733 The first civilian killed was Kevin ward a Catholic teenager a bar man dragged out by ex British soldier gusty Spence Ulster volunteer force and and shot dead in 1966, the first bomb detonated was in silent valley resovoir 1969 let off by uvf, the first policeman killed was constable Arbuckle shot dead on the shankill road by the uvf, the first child shot dead wad in divis flats yoing rooney the RUC. The first homes burnt were Conway street and Bombay street Irish Catholics burnt out jointly by the uvf and Ruc. The first people arrested and interned without trials were civil rights protesters. You've made a mistake with me my friend. I'm a republican Protestant not and never Will be to the crown. My nationality isn't defined by religion or vice versa but I'm an Irish man first and that's what you loathe. Tell the truth. When I was growing up my father had four votes in county elections because he owned four home's the families in those homes didn't get to vote he did this was the 1970s not the 1800s . If you didn't own the home you lived in you didn't get to vote. I took part in the civil rights marches and having watched my Catholic friends disciminated against, murdered, put in prison without trials subjected to inhuman and degrading treatment at the hand's of the government became a rebel and took a rebel's stand . I didn't murder unarmed civil rights protesters in Derry or priests and women and children in ballymurphy the parachute regiment did. We were provoked and responded to injustice just as the miners did. You'd like to play on British Ulster protestants Vs rebel Irishmen but that's misleading. We are Irishmen first. I'm not happy about what happened in Ireland, I'm sorry for all the loss of life and hate caused but as a result. I can't undo it. I lost two brother's in the conflict, two cousins and my mother but I forgive you don't. You would sow the hate into a new generation which will reject you. Your bitter against Irishmen and women for being Irish instead of English I can't fix that it's just who you are . When you're taught no history and nothing but hate you end you end up twisted out of shape. On the loyal protestants of Ulster nonsense as opposed to the treasonous Irish Catholics I would reply I'm an Irish Presbyterian republican and the best IRA commander we had on the fall's road in the 1970s was Ivor Bell another Protestant republican who you would also regard as a traitor but remember we are Irish first not British. The rights we fought for should be given to all. We Irish republicans have never been an enemy of the English working class but always shared a common enemy. I think you've twisted yourself out of shape my friend. It doesn't damage me or the people of Yorkshire it damages yourself and for that I'm also sorry. Love.

Arthur Scargill, an absolute LEGEND. When my late father was coming up through the ranks as a union man in Durham during the late 70s, he became known on the local union scene as Young Scargill. My dad never did fully realise his union potential, but I'm quite proud that others thought he was so capable at one time, that he was associated with Arthur, in the way of that nickname. He actually brought Arthur to our village in the late 70s, taking him to the local pub, then to the local fish and chip shop for supper, before Arthur headed back home to Yorkshire.

I was picketing Eddie Shahs print works in Warrington, supporting the national geographic union after members were sacked and replaced by nonunion workers. There were thousands picketing from all over the country, Thatchers police force didn’t hold back with the violence. This preceded the miners strike which I also supported by organising fund raising and food parcels. The hatred of Thatcher and the conservative party still burns in many parts of the UK. Whilst Arthur Scargill was continually assassinated by the gutter press he was a hero of mine given I was a young socialist and active politically and as a NUPE branch chairman. Gaddafi generous indeed, and he was not stupid so would have deliberately given cash. But that money will have been used up pretty quickly in support of thousands of striking families. Why not focus your intellectual curiosity on something a bit more useful, like the 10s of billions wasted in government procurement during COVID!

so what, even if he did get the cash, he probably needed it, wasn't cheap being an enemy of the state. Why dont you focus on the fact that Libya, once the most successful country in Africa, with many having a significantly higher standard of living to those in the UK, is now a hell hole, thx to cameron, hilary Clintn & Sarkozy. I'm not saying Gaddafi was an angel, far from in many, many instances but at one point they had a functioning state, now they have slave markets, terrorism etc.
