The zoom level hold is awesome on the KOBO.

Hi Nathan, you are the No.1 reviewer who test devices in actual usage conditions. You make perfect close-ups in order to show the screen quality (not enlarging fonts to max. level ridiculously unlike others) and you are very objective. I trust you. Thanks again for this comparison. I have 3 questions, if you don't mind...
    1) Kindle Scribe pdf text contrast and crispness (on 0 contrast level) seems lower than kobo in video. Is it something about lighting conditions, camera etc. or is it the actual situation? What is your direct, personal experience?
    2) Does increasing contrast on Scribe cause feathering effect on letters?
    3) Do you think slightly textured screen of Scribe diminish the contrast and crispness of text on pdfs?
    Thanks...

I ordered the scribe and returned it. The grainy texture of the screen made it really difficult for me to enjoy reading from it. Haven't tested the Elipsa but you're right, the video shows that the kobo has better clarity. I think some reviewers arent sensitive by nature to the layer in between. I tend to notice that layer and it gives me a sense of reduced clarity if its not completely smooth and transparent.

Actually, you can export notebooks to DropBox from the Elipsa.. AFAIK, we STILL can't borrow library books on Kindle in Canada. That's a deal breaker for me. I will probably go for the Elipsa for that reason along with the price difference. Kobo includes the cover too, which makes it an even better value. I'm still hanging on to my original H2O for the SD card slot. It's starting to have issues though. The firmware is corrupted and I need to spend a Sunday afternoon doing some work on it over the winter.

I would've liked to see how the Kobo written notes react when you change the font size. I think that's why kindle went with the sticky notes.

After changing font sizes the writing disappears and it shows an icon and brackets where the note was added.

I guess I didn't show it in this video but it's shown in the main Kobo Elipsa review at about the 5 minute mark. ruclips.net/video/RDF8mWq3emk/видео.html

Thanks for the comparison. I'm primarily a reMarkable 2 user but, since I do my reading on Kobo devices, I've tried using the Elipsa as part of my workflow. This comparison details a lot about what I like of the Elipsa and what I do not like. A couple of things that just bug me greatly about the Elipsa:
    - No organization. I'd like to put my notes into folders... and I can't. How hard would it be to make an update to allow for folders and for notes to go into folders?
    - Device.. abandonment? Or lack of support? Most ePaper devices get some support and feature updates over time. With the Elipsa, this isn't a thing. We're STILL stuck with the four barebones templates (also annoyed that it always defaults to graph paper). I understand that Kobo is an eReader company who dipped their toe into the ePaper notetaking world with the Elipsa, but come on, do something.
    - The Advanced Notebook lag is unusable. I've tried to use it on multiple occasions but the actual writing is laggier vs. a basic notebook.
    - Dropbox exports normally do not export. I'd say once every five times will it actually export. With reMarkable, it's an easy sync to be able to find it on my computer.

The scribe is beyond stupid. I bought one max memory, leather cover, etc. Then to find out you can't write directly on the book! They made it completely useless! No one wants to write "sticky notes", you want to annotate text and sign documents, right?
So far the RM2 has served my purpose. But I'm looking for a backup device.

The plus of the kobo is you can actually write on the book. none of the post-it-note BS and overdrive is directly on the device but i do like my kindle scribe,

Scribe's display is definitely whiter, while Kobo's is bluish.

Wow. On Kindle you cant write directly on the book, so seriously, what is the point of it? Their marketing really leads to think that is possible.

The Scribe has whispersync, like all Kindle products.
The Kobo doesn't. You can't have sync for sideloaded books. It is a MAJOR disadvantage. It's better in any other way, but this is such a major drag... You can't see your books with your highlights. That's bad, for 2024
