    From Wikipedia:
    Lynchburg is an independent city in the Commonwealth of Virginia in the United States. As of the 2010 census, the population was 75,568, estimated to have risen to 82,168 as of 2019. Located in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains along the banks of the James River, Lynchburg is known as the "City of Seven Hills" or the "Hill City". In the 1860s, Lynchburg was the only major city in Virginia that was not recaptured by the Union before the end of the American Civil War.
    Lynchburg lies at the center of a wider metropolitan area close to the geographic center of Virginia. It is the fifth-largest MSA in Virginia, with a population of 260,320. It is the site of several institutions of higher education, including Virginia University of Lynchburg, Randolph College, University of Lynchburg, Central Virginia Community College and Liberty University. Nearby cities include Roanoke, Charlottesville, and Danville.
    Liberty University, founded in 1971 as Lynchburg Baptist College and renamed in 1985, is one of the state's largest institutions of higher education and the largest employer in the Lynchburg region. The university states that it generates over $1 billion in economic impact to the Lynchburg area annually.
    Lynchburg has ten recognized historic districts, four of them in the downtown residential area. Since 1971, 40 buildings have been individually listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
    Especially since 2002, downtown Lynchburg has undergone significant revitalization, with hundreds of new loft apartments created through adaptive reuse of historic warehouses and mills. Since 2000, downtown has attracted private investments of more than $110 million, and business activity increased by 205% from 2004 to 2014. In 2014, 75 new apartment units were added to downtown, with 155 further units under construction, increasing the number of housing units downtown by 48% from 2010 to 2014.
    In 2015, the $5.8 million Lower Bluffwalk pedestrian street zone opened. Notable projects underway in downtown by the end of 2015 include the $25 million Virginian Hotel restoration project, a $16.6 million restoration of the Academy Center of the Arts, and $4.6 million expansion of Amazement Square Children's Museum.

    👠 was there 2 weeks attending a training seminar. Smh this has got to be one of the most "dismal" places in Virginia (or that I have ever seen)!! I know all cities have an area, that is nothing to "write home about", but damn the entire city was this way?!! No good resturants, no real form of entertainment, no diversity - nothing!! The only thing that I found redeeming was the fact that some of the residents AGREED that it was dreadful. Yet the MOUNTAINS and natural scenery is absolutely GORGEOUS!! That's it ! Go for the beautiful mountains🌸.

      Believe it or not this city was once alive an thriving; the problem is the ole racist yt white folk an the police department they love ❤️ for the area to look gloomy an dismal. While they just built a $50 million police precinct there yes I said that correctly $50 MILLION. Get the them fuqs out of city council an the city will boom.

      So, nobody lives there?? No cars, pedestrians, no dogs, kids, cats, nothing? The streets are all torn up with broken, cracked pavement and curbs, ancient houses and empty buildings. Looks like they dropped a neutron bomb on it. Where's the nice part of town?!? No department stores, drug stores, grocery stores, tobacco shop, liquor stores, no buses running.

      Many actually have been over the past 10 years. Around 900 loft apartments, new offices, new hotel, and dozens of new businesses have been created from adaptive reuse of historic structures around town. Here are some before and after shots: www.flickr.com/gp/95507950@N03/71GKss

      @@Maznhaden1 Nice. I did notice that there were signs downtown of a Main Street revitalization project. It should look a lot better once they've rebuilt the roads.

    • @Maznhaden1
      @Maznhaden1 3 года назад

      @@MileageMikeTravels yep, it is phase 2 of a $25 million waterline, fiber, and streetscaping project. Should be complete in May of 2021 and will look very nice when done with lots of curbside bulbouts for outdoor dining as well as wider decorative sidewalks and conversion to 2-way traffic. Most of the revitalization has occurred on Jefferson Street and the Lower Bluffwalk (a pedestrian zone between Jefferson and Commerce) up to now, but Main Street is ripe for a Renaissance after the Main Street renewal project is complete and the economy starts its post-Covid rebound in the Summer. Fingers crossed! The City is putting millions into modernizing downtown infrastructure in the hopes businesses will follow. Btw I have lived in downtown Lynchburg off of Commerce Street for almost nine years!
