My name is Matthew and I live in a van. I lost my job due to "cut backs" from the pandemic of 2020 and decided to seriously restructure my life. I am also a single dad who needed to find a solution that would allow me to remain in my daughter's life and plan for her future. After tons of research into #vanlife, I knew it was for me.
From March 2021 until October 2021 I spent my days building out my Chevrolet Express 2500, which came to be known as "Lucky" and as of October 18, 2021 I have been living in Lucky full time.
The build was done with almost no experience on my end and I used the one incredible tool I had at my disposal - the internet - to learn what I needed to build Lucky into a very comfortable tiny home.
I have always had a bit of a passion for being in front of the camera and really enjoy capturing the world around us. This really played into how I was feeling after almost a year of working from home when I "commuted" from the bedroom to the couch. I was starting to feel extremely unhealthy, unmotivated and despondent. I HATED that, and that's not a word I like to throw around. This new lifestyle gives me opportunities I just didn't have before and I am so excited to be able to share it all with you.
I truly believe we all have the capabilities to turn our lives around, should we choose to do so - and if I can inspire you to shoot for something better then I have done a decent job and that will keep me going.
There is more to life than the consume, consume, spend, spend lifestyle I feel we have all been conditioned to follow and I just want to do the best I can for myself first and foremost. Our time is limited and I do not want to waste another second on a lifestyle that doesn't bring me joy!

Penny taking a poop after you cleaned her litter had me laughing out loud. I had a cat for 19 years. It never fails. I could almost smell it.

When using Isopropyl Alcohol Is on anything in your vehicle like the dashboard or steering wheel Make sure you follow it up with a Conditioner or else.Your dashboard is going to crack and split in the heat.
He does not care. If Matt was very careful to his attention to small details than he would never get the big stuff done. It's like the main difference between me and him. I'm hyper focused on details and get paralyzed. I admire Matt's ability to dismiss it and carry on forward and actually get his big things done

That was not dirt that came off your dash, it was the stain they used on the dash, but be careful cleaning it with alcohol because it will make it crack big time😢

Penny was biding her time for a fresh clean potty. THEN she struck. My cat used to watch me change the litter then climb in the box and start rearranging the pellets. He'd look me square in the face and intentionally flick a few pellets onto the floor. Why? Because he could. Oh Penny... It was wonderful to see Lindsey and Sadie.

Our movie house has closed down. This small town once supported two theaters and two drive-ins. I worked at them all through high school. Prices just got ridiculous.

@@VanlifePLUS Yes it's really bad over here at the moment. Insurance premiums have gone through the roof because of it. A lot of people have resorted to putting trackers on our vehicles.
You need some pretty good thief prevention tools:
_The steering wheel lock_ , they can’t drive the car.
_The BOOT_ , locks your tire, they can’t drive away.
_The Kill switch_ , turns off your battery from a distance.
A stitch in time saves 9 they say. My point put things back in their designated spot and declutter. Its works every time and anywhere! Again like another viewer most of my friends who share custody get to help with picking up dropping off. Just saying and you do get to see her a bit longer when you take her home yourself. Matthew you do not say a thing really about that poor back but as someone who is a nurse and has suffered multiple back injuries I know that back is causing issues post operative! Take care. I am in my 50s I was able to handle it okay till a year ago. Prayers and good wishes for healing and you to listen and take care of your back now.

Just FYI perhaps only use etoh on limited areas that need to be cleanly oil free. I personally use Isopropyl alcohol + 2 drops dawn original and equal amounts of water to disinfect on non food safe situations only.

I have had my fridge for about 3 years and first had it running on a jackery 1000 and just the portable panel. That was really hell trying to keep it charged to run the fridge. I now have a house battery in the van that runs it with panels on the roof what an improvement but it is only used a fridge. Why isn’t your fridge on the house batteries and how much power does it take to run a fudge/ freezer with an ice maker? I would love a freezer but fear the draw lol

It's interesting...I have the same problem with two power stations I have that they don't stay on the whole time for my fridge. That sucks! They shut off and, if I don't catch it fast enough, the stuff in the fridge starts sweating and getting things wet. One power station is a no name brand and the other is a very large Bluetti. I don't know if it's possible to get them to stay on.
I don’t think so. My suspicion is that when the fridge compressor turns off (when the fridge gets to the set temp) the. The power station detects no power draw and turns itself off.
From what I have heard some of the higher end brand ones do not do this, like EcoFlow and Jackery but I can’t confirm that yet. It’s annoying to be sure

Hey Matthew, I'm from Long Island NY and here we're not supposed to put carseats/kids under 70 pounds in the front passenger seat because of the airbags. Does your Van not have airbags? Are there no such warnings in Canada??
Cargo vans come with an airbag disable switch in the dashboard, because where else would you put the baby? Can’t just let them bounce around in the cargo hold!
