Great to see your channel growing... because clearly you have the passion for guitar, and it shows in your playing ability!! And let's not forget your down to earth personality which I'm sure plenty of spectators will agree is refreshing, keep on rocking Sophie.
It takes a true musician to be more concerned about the tone and quality of the sound versus “I sound so good.” Just another reason I subscribe to this channel.
Yes you can definitely shred! But it's your personality that has won me over, I will be a fan for life! Your facial expressions and smile are addicting.
I started playing in 1988 age 12. I’ve played in recording bands, gigging bands and won music competitions but I still can’t play like that 🙄 You’re extremely talented and gifted. All the very best to you x
I've been "playing" guitar since I was about 19, I'm now 51 and you were still better than I am now when you were 19!! It would be impossible for you to post a video that we didn't like....
Sophie, awesome flashback. Being able to take a look back at ourselves in the past from time to time is a good thing. It shows us a lot of how much we have improved. Also, so much of our playing changes a lot. We think about the guitar differently as time passes. Our technique changes a lot. Our phrasing changes as well. We become better players. It would be very hard to go back and play something the same way we did several years ago. Though our warm up exercises change as well. I remember warming up with scales. Now I warm up with riffs. Like ACDC Back in Black, instead of just a normal scale. I warm up with Night Rider from Dokken. ruclips.net/video/wI3iodHYwME/видео.html
You're a goddess among mortals..before the great guitar playing and technical precision you are a wonderful person...keep playing and I'll keep watching. Love your channel and your playing. Never change
It takes a great deal of courage to do what you have done, and you should not be too hard on yourself. Remember that most of us cannot do what you do. I have noticed that on most RUclips videos the ratio of likes to dislikes is about 10:1. So if you do better than that then you're really doing well. Your entire history is valuable from the first to the last, so please do not erase the past. You keep getting better and better and your fans love you for it.
Like the video mix, nice to get some of you as well as your amazing guitar skills. Your playing at 16 was still amazing and way above the standard for even mainstream musicians.
Sophie, no one is ever a harder critic than ourselves but you are being way too hard on yourself bearing in mind you were only 16 when you made your 1st video. Personally, I think you blew everyone out of the water then and you nuke everyone out of the water now. You have a natural born talent and I love how you have never ever been anything but yourself. Honest, genuine, real and down to earth. Thank you for sharing with us.
You may not realize it, but besides your beauty, brains and talent, you are one FUNNY gal! Anyone ever tell you, that you could easily be a comedian? 😵 well done
When I was quite young, I had to look up the word vivacious. These days I could just watch these videos to understand the word. And the words grounded and perspicacious and grand. Plenty of people are great players. She's a great person. Oh, also the best reaction video I've yet seen.
Hi Sophie, First off your playing is just awesome. It was only today that I went and checked out your first upload as well, to see the difference in the videography. Never be ashamed of what you have accomplished. Those first vids were the starting point of what is now a truly great channel. I listen to you album constantly in the car. I'm 47 and have decided to fulfil a life long dream of playing the electric guitar because I saw your After Insanity Vid. Keep the great vids coming and thank you.
I've seen way worse on RUclips. The thing about younger girls and guitar is the strength usually isn't there in the fingers yet, so passages that we'd expect to have strength and control, particularly those with vibrato, suffer. But yeah, it's ok to see the progress of a player. I guess I'm lucky I didn't record my progress as a player for the world to see. No RUclips when I started playing. Heck, no internet even. Geez I'm old.
Nothing wrong with the old videos, don't be ashamed of them, it shows your progression as a guitarist! I can't help be notice your eyebrows look much better now!
Love your facial expressions as you watch and listen to you first videos, it is nice to look back and see how we have grown and become better. I admit I did think you could play left handed, did not realize it was the computer switching, LOL, thanks for clearing that up! You have a wonderful sense of humor and had me laughing. Pretty impressive considering you were 16 in those videos, I too like it when your left hand disappears out of frame and cannot see what your doing, hard to do when using a computer camera. Thought you did very well! Like how you stop and critique or applaud younger Sophie, keep being honest and humble! 😃
Hello. All my life I wanted to learn to play the guitar like you. Unfortunately it did not. I only enjoy your videos. I wish you success and great love in life!
I've been a believer of playing how you feel comfortable. Your pick grip is what's causing the pinch harmonic issue. More side thumb exposure makes it easier. You're pretty good and have your own style which is much better than needing gimmicks anyway. Cheers and keep rocking!
Hi Sophie! My 11 year old daughter (Cailin) is a new guitarist and loves your videos. We watched this video and she freaked out when she heard you playing Nightmare. She asked me to ask you if you could record a new version of Nightmare. Thanks Sophie, love the channel!
Dont worry about the light reflecting off?? the way you play people forget about the light refracting very quick with how good you play, I love how you take other songs and do it in your style and add tastefully, My favorite is what you did with Surfing with the Alien. You keep doing what you love and you will always be happy and successful, Have a Great New Year Sophie, jam on
Love the videos just goes to show you how much you grown and learned. Now it's like you are one with the guitar. Keep up the good work and keep the videos coming cant wait to see what you come up with next.
First time seeing you actually talk. I used to think you were just a great guitar player who was also great eye candy. You've got a very fun personality and now I'll watch more of your vids. Thanks, Sophie.
You shredded then and even more now. Your first RUclips video was better than most people can attain over their lifetime. Be proud of your talent because you are incredible.
Genius vid. Self-critique is the only way to really improve because most peeps won't be honest with you if you ask them. This is a great lesson for anyone wanting to improve themselves - well done for doing it. You're one of the best guitarists I've ever come across - male or female - and I bet most of them wouldn't have the balls to do this sort of post.

This made me feel better. Thanks! Haven’t expected ever waching one of your videos and feel like I am a good guitarist... Edit: Well... I am not but I guess I can improve.
I just barely found your videos and I wonder if you're doing any song writing? I try to put some lyrics together myself and have created some horrifying disasters but save everything I write in hopes that one day I'll find the best way to get the words to work together in some clever way. Thanks for sharing SOPHIE. Much appreciated. Always good to see you beautiful. Keep up the awesome work. Your an incredible guitar player. Much love from the EAST COAST USA
Sophie, That was fun. You have progressed in a lot of ways! You Tubers don't usually start with top of the line equipment. That's not what You Tube is about. It's getting your message across. Yes, your video and sound quality is far better that back then, but your old videos are great! Your playing was great back then as well. Nothing to be ashamed about. You were playing better that I ever will. And you're even better now! Were the videos before you started at BIMM, or had you already started? Also, have you stopped playing the Mockingbird? Hi Sophie, my daughter (8 year old, also playing guitar & a lefty.) saw your video playing Sweet child o mine. She was amazed and loved how the way you play it!- First time she saw a girl that can play lead guitar very well. She have a YT channel: Lyra Frida. & if you could give feedback/comment or advised - it will be very meaningful to her. Thanks!

RUclips recommendations just sent this video my way. Fun video; it's important to be able to look back at the journey and laugh a bit. None of my recording in general have made the Internet but I know I've also definitely done the same before. Also, if you never had your experience playing through a Line 6 Spider on insane channel, are you even a guitar player? I can remember in my early days, I volunteered to (poorly) play "You Give Love a Bad Name" through a Spider IV with a badly set up Indonesian Ibanez RG in front of an introductory physics class to demonstrate wavelength and frequency of sound. 15 year old me was pretty disappointed when that didn't make me cool... Things have changed a bit in the 10 years since then.
I wouldn't mix your playing with the way you look. You are an amazing player, so look at this whole thing as your digital scrapbook. Even though people judge, I don't. Keep on Rocking.
Like SpaceX, your willingness to look back and view it all as "learning experiences" - without letting "mistakes" dominate your thinking - is what makes you successful. Please keep motivating young people and, especially, young women!
Sophie honey, my muse mistress of music...play us some blues and hows about coming across the pond and play us some gigs.... Thought I was the only one having trouble with pinch harmonics.. Have a Merry Christmas

Even in your early videos your playing was very good, but today it's absolutely amazing. You have both the talent, and the looks to go far in the music business. I truly enjoy watching your videos. Thanks for sharing them with us.
We got a pinch harmonic! 🤣 Sophie you're such a BABE you're EXACTLY my kind of girl. I watched back some of my early videos from 2006 and 2007 and oh my godddd lol!
Pinch harmonicas are easier to if you have your pickups on the bottom setting as well as more treble. If I have any bass in my effects, it takes 10x more work to pinch harmonic lol.
I think you started off the right way, you got better as a player ( even although you were better than most people then), your equipment got better, your over all sound got better. You should commend yourself for starting the right way and getting better and better and sticking with it
You're an amazing guitarist (and yes, the tremolo picking back then was good), but holy hell you're killing me 🤣🤣🤣 You had me at "Speedy little fucker", the exquisite guitar tone, and topping it off with "you're welcome" (well played 🤣), but the "elephant in the room", hair flip and the extension comments literally had me spitting out my drink!! Love it! Cheers!
All of our first vids regardless of age, when we look back on we are super critical of. For a 16 year old you were still phenomenal. your fingerwork regardless of bum notes was brill. I would love to see you do a modern day cover of Nightmare. Huge fan of Avenged and that's one of their best
Thanks for sharing! Even at a younger age, you are a virtuoso. I really like your commentary and gear videos too. Your personality comes up and is a lot of fun. When you play, you're more robotic (not in a bad way) and precise.
it may be fun mixing a song from years back with a remastered copy. Further showing the amount of work and improvements that come with dedication, for those starters who get furestarded by not being instantly world renouwned.
I'm not really a fan of BVB or the like but they inspired, at least in part, a young girl to pick up a guitar and grow up to shred and thats all right with me. I have 2 daughters and I think its beyond awesome seeing all these woman on youtube shredding and drumming and singing and just being serious, crazy talented musicians. Talented woman have always been around but the record business was and still is a boys club. But this channel and others like it are leveling the playing field and It's a long time coming because music needs real talent instead of the pre packaged, sampled to death nonsense.....rock on!!!!!
If I see this video, I think: what would have been, if Bach, Beethoven, Mozart, Rachmaninoff, The Beatles, Gene Krupa, Jimi Hendrix or whoever of the great musicians allover this world would have had such wonderful methods to document their efforts? I think, Ms. Lloyd should keep on documentating her musical growing and developement. It is very very interesting. Keep on, Sophie Lloyd. Your guitar work is wonderful, and Your musical career, too. A german lover of music.
Don't be so harsh on yourself. In the first video I see a 16 year old girl, doing what she loves best. She has dedication and talent, that is more than what we can say about most teenagers nowadays. And there are many people (young and old) that are as dedicated but not all as talented, still they keep trying. So to all of those out there, I hope you will succeed, just like Sophie :).
Your vibrato now is awesome it has come on so far it sounds so smooth now,I totally get what ya mean about rushing solo's on video I did it years ago with some Randy Rhoads solo's I think the camera is a pressure too as well as having to rush to do other stuff & it would be nice to hear how you do some of these songs now you have bloomed into full flower as a guitar player, great video as always & keep up the good work youbare doing an amazing job😀

The speed makes you a better thrasher! You shred like a thrasher! Can you play some Megadeth "Dialectic Chaos" or "Conquer or Die"?
Hi its funi😍
I think you started off the right way, you got better as a player ( even although you were better than most people then), your equipment got better, your over all sound got better. You should commend yourself for starting the right way and getting better and better and sticking with it
"Hair flicks ..... I still do that now". Really??? I hadn't noticed.
Ha ha! Yes, those are one of Sophie's loveliest mannerisms! :-)
I think it would be great to get an updated version of Nightmare, it is a great song and would love to see you do it again
Fala rápido em garota, vídeo é bom antigo pode crê.
Love it! Cheers!
Re: the light reflecting off the boobs... I guess that's how they got the nickname of "headlights"...
All of our first vids regardless of age, when we look back on we are super critical of. For a 16 year old you were still phenomenal. your fingerwork regardless of bum notes was brill. I would love to see you do a modern day cover of Nightmare. Huge fan of Avenged and that's one of their best
too hard on yourself. I couldn't play that if I spent a million years on it.
Thanks for sharing! Even at a younger age, you are a virtuoso. I really like your commentary and gear videos too. Your personality comes up and is a lot of fun. When you play, you're more robotic (not in a bad way) and precise.
😍Кроха! А по русскому слабо!..?🐆🎧
По русскому, это как?! Музыка ведь не имеет языковой преграды :)
it may be fun mixing a song from years back with a remastered copy.
Nice seeing where you started Sophie! As for these videos, you should keep doing these!
I think your pitch harmonics are perfect! Please keep these vids coming. You’re an amazing talent and insanely easy on the eyes
