Why did this brilliant record not reach number one everywhere. Hal Blaine was on the fantastic drums. Seems Ronnie was the only Ronette on the recording and Sonny and Cher were included in the background vocals. Great unravelling of Spector’s wall of sound. If anyone does not own headphones to listen to this, please try and acquire some - beg, steal or borrow. Just so good Pat.
I was 13 when this song was released and thought it wasn’t just a song, rather an anthem. My attempts to copy the Ronettes’ look had to wait a couple years before my parents would let me wear eyeliner, and I never did get the beehive right. Fast forward many, many years to the first time I saw a new talent out of Gr. Britain, one Amy Winehouse. One look told me she was also a Ronettes’ fan and had better luck with the hairdo than I had. This is the best version of this classic I’ve ever heard!
Ronnie Spector, Hal Blaine on drums, the Wall of Sound and Radio Wollaton....perfect. Headphone magic, probably at a level higher than is good for you!
The now legendary drumbeat with its irresistible drive and emotional pulse sets the tone for the entire song.Ronnie Spectre sings with heart-melting sincerity, the sweeping orchestral layers and lush harmonies make it simply Pop Perfection. Sir Wollaton the drums here add a heartbeat to them wall Of Sound. . 🎧🥁🥁🥁🎼🎶👏🏻👏🏻
Your previous version became my go to for listening to this amazing song, and this one is just as good, if not better! Was very excited to see this in my sub box :)
Lyrics: The night we met I knew I needed you so And if I had the chance I’d never let you go So won't you say you love me? I’ll make you so proud of me We’ll make ’em turn their heads every place we go So won't you, please (Be my, be my baby) Be my little baby? (My one and only baby) Say you’ll be my darlin’ (Be my, be my baby) Be my baby now (My one and only baby) Whoa-oh-oh-oh I’ll make you happy, baby, just wait and see For every kiss you give me, I’ll give you three Oh, since the day I saw you I have been waiting for you You know I will adore you ’til eternity So won't you, please (Be my, be my baby) Be my little baby? (My one and only baby) Say you’ll be my darlin’ (Be my, be my baby) Be my baby now (My one and only baby) Whoa-oh-oh-oh [ cello bridge ] So c’mon and be (Be my, be my baby) Be my little baby? (My one and only baby) Say you’ll be my darlin’ (Be my, be my baby) Be my baby now (My one and only baby) Whoa-oh-oh-oh [ drum solo ] (Be my, be my baby) Be my little baby? It should have been number one Henry, but a group called the Beatles got in the way !
So well stated! It’s THE girl group song of all time!
Excellent initiative, this increase of 3db is simply sensible, we appreciate better the vocal prowess. Super stereo sound ! 👌👍😊

Thanks James. His stereo mixes were terrible. I always use the mono versions when I make a new mix.

Hey Pat, can you please do The Ronnets version of Chapel of love (1964)
Also the same title by Darlene Love, when you've got the time 😉
Cher was a backing singer on this track.
