After this broadcast I sent Peter a letter, telling him how much and how long I'd admired him. When I was a teenager I idolized him lots for his eloquence and intelligence. A few weeks after he died a letter arrived from his wife Kayce. I learned that he'd read my letter among the many hundreds thanking him for his great work. I have a bittersweet memory of that day.

That is an awesome story you shared here. I too, older than you at 54 remember Dan well and was reminded of him today with Mr. Brokaw's news of cancer. Although, I have an abiding respect for Peter, Dan and Tom. Peter is who I was raised with growing up and who I continued to watch as I started my own family. May he continue to R.I.P.

Journalism hasn't gone anywhere. You and many others just refuse to believe it anymore. The real problem is you don't want to believe the truth anymore. It's not hard to find the truth. Many news outlets run the story than chances are good It's true. 1 or 2 outlets without journalists like say fox don't hire journalists but opinionated talk show host's that will tell you themselves that they are not journalists is what people believe because that's what they want to hear instead of facts that they simply do not like. Be well

@@Galaxylord2 disagree. journalism has turned to opinion news.!! the best right now i would say now is maybe cbs and not cable fox. if you think abc and cnn are great at the news without the bias, then we will just have to disagree, i watch them all and can say, cnn and msnbc are the worse. not a fan of hannity either, but bret bear and kilamede are the top in their field, they report on all sides and dont wait till they have to report it.loo0k at cnn and abc now they are only reporting the crap about loser cuomo now days later becuase they had so the world would actually see how bias they are!!!! look at abc same way. a national news station not a cable channel. very liberal biased. say what you want. most of america agrees that journalism is dead compared to the era of peter jennings

@@KindCountsDeb3773 first of all i do have a political hero. but if your referring to trump then say that. no matter what you say or believe from thos liberal biased channels, he did exactly what he said he was going to do for the most part. cant say that about the last 3 prez at all. back to the channels. cnn has ben proven time and time again to be liars and when proved wrong, never has one of the anchors apologized once that i have seen. even when a rep went on the show and asked chris bone head cuomo would he say he was wrong and apologize he said never. so you can choose to get ur info from them thats fine, but you would be doing yourself an injustice. ABC is right behind them. I dont get my info from opinion networks becuase its in correct or half truths. again CNN is the leader in this with them being king of ( we have an anonymous sources .... blah blah blah..) if you hear that from any news show, its going to be bullshit. since you cant defend yourself since the source is anonymous....... what a load of crap. whatever, of the national channels fox and cbs are the most neutral and pbs. nbc abc are a joke. look at it this way, if national news anchors makes an opinionated comments that leans either way, that is bad journalism....period. it use not be like that. its all about ratings and that has done nothing but bad for all of us. it got worse under obama and its only getting worse. that is what had divided us. Oh and the left still calling peopel names who dont agree with them. biden did it yesterday. didnt see cnn mention it. yeah you can believe them all you want, you will be in the dark then.

I used to watch ABC News when they had Peter Jennings, Ted Koppel, Barbara Walters, Hugh Downs, Charles Gibson, Elizabeth Vargas, and Diane Sawyer which I loved all of them that I listed (I was born in late 1993). Now we don’t have the great journalism and objective journalism anymore (Maybe a few) as the mainstream media is so liberal now (The network News of CBS, NBC, and ABC have went liberal and their biases became more noticeable and they seem to attack conservatives) (CNN and MSNBC are very liberal but they have always been like that since they were launched) (NY Times and Washington Post is also very liberal) There are more liberal news outlets in the MSM than conservative outlets. There is only two news outlets I know that are conservative leaning, Fox News and NY Post. Other than that, it is very hard to find a news source/outlet that is almost unbiased or is least biased (a news outlet with journalists that will report the news with only facts and be as objective as possible)

The women competing for his job, the man just died, made a mockery of his Humanity by their despicable behavior, particularly Diane Sawyer, not a single one of them could hold a candle to him, the incompetence just mind boggling. Jennings, the last of the real class acts concerning the news: we got the truth, without narcissistic, overblown egos, buffoonery, and an obvious (and rather vulgar) display of bias. He would be sickened by the 2016 general election, no doubt in my mind. REST IN PEACE, PETER JENNINGS!! Such a class act, You are missed, truly an icon of days gone by....so sad.... Tom Brokaw cancer is in remission thank God. This recent news made me think of Peter Jennings passing. I always adored Jennings. I remember looking forward to watching his broadcast for many years because he was so good at his craft. And his demeanor (so soothing and classy) and downright handsome. I grieved his passing so much and after his death watching ABC world news was never the same. It still amazes me how insensitive and judgemental people are to others' struggle. Some of these comments are incredibly ignorant. Give him credit for at least having the strength to quit smoking 20 years prior to his passing. RIP Jennings. RIP. Can't believe it's been nearly 10 years but I will always remember and love you. ❤

LuvLifeLuvGod I completely agree with every word you said. We always knew that no matter what disaster was going on, Peter would calm us down and explain it. He WAS classy and yes, he WAS downright handsome. i miss my half hour with him every night and I, too, can hardly believe it has been ten years.

I think it was 7th grade Social Studies class. Our teacher had a huge crush on Peter Jennings-She said that if we got a date for her with Peter she would give us an A for the class. She was flown to New York and got her date with Peter. Pretty amazing he would do that for her, but he did.

I live in Ottawa, Canada and when I was a kid Peter Jennings stopped by the courtyard where I lived. One of his coworkers was living in our courtyard. He is one of the most famous people to ever walk into our courtyard and for that I am grateful. Also props to Canada for producing a great News Anchor!!!

When I found out Peter Jennings passed away, I wanted to cry. He was one of the BEST journalist, best, newscasters and the best people I had the privilege watching when I was a child. I love this man. (no homo) I grew-up watching Peter Jennings and thinking I wanted to be like him when I grow up. That didn't work out but still, I miss watching him on ABC News very much. David Muir, he's alright, but he will never duplicate what Peter Jennings did over his 40-year career. R.I.P. Peter Jennings! :'( :'( :'(

It has been 10 years ago since Peter Jennings died from lung cancer. He was one of ABC's greatest news anchors ever known. Who would've thought that we miss such a great news reporter for a decade now.

I grew up watching him with my mom.
I remember his new years eve 2000 broadcast. It's was just him in the studio. He had on a tuxedo but no jacket and his bow tie undone. It was like you were hanging out with a close friend.
    RIP bro.

Young people of the future. News anchors used to be highly respected and important to deliver information to the public.
Mr. Jennings was widely respected by Americans of every size, color and political viewpoint.
    He'd hardly recognize today's media.

Peter was my favorite newsman. I watched him every night. When it was Election time, he was the one I tuned into see. This is such a shame. He was a kind and wonderful man. I have missed peter Jennings all of these years since he passed. This Election year 2016 has been crazy. I would have loved to see what Peter thought of all that's going on. ~Blessings Peter~

The only news guy I actually enjoyed watching with my parents growing up. Sad he passed away from smoking. My dad smoked for 40 years and quit 15 years ago. He passed away last year but If he had not quit I would have missed out on 10 to 15 years. Rip Pete and my pops ;(

Yeah, I wonder whom he was talking to - I was thinking it might be the producer or director to talk about what to do differently on tomorrow’s newscast. But I knew he cared deeply about his family, because he was a class act all the way.
