Richard III was king at the battle of Bosworth and was so till he was slain that day despite what Henry had wrote after! He spotted Henry Tudor from his vantage point at the battle, charged towards him killing Sir William Brandon (Henry Tudor's standard-bearer) instantly in his way, hacked loads more of Henry's army and nearly got to Henry VII in doing so! The ultimate way to go out like a king, a true king who was a victim to Shakespearean misrepresentation in years to follow!
I hope Dr. Worsley tackles another persistent fib of the Cousins War, as it was known at the time: the claims of 28,000 dead at Towton, based on one letter written by The Kingmaker's brother, a bishop, extolling the apocalyptic battle that would Settle Everything. A fib because a late winter battle fought by quick moving forces, traveling over ground that was just passed by the retreating Lancastrians, would have been stripped bare. The total forces on both sides probably didn't top 30,000, combined. Battles were fought at Ferrybridge at first light, Dintingdale at early afternoon, and what we call the Battle of Towton at late afternoon until well after dark. Probably the appalling number of 9,000 dead is the closest to the mark. Edward IV and Lord Fauconberg were the real tactical players here. Warwick the Kingmaker was more politician than warrior. But that damn 28,000 number won't go away. Or the 100K who fought there. Utter fib. The country couldnt support those numbers. The King of France couldn't come up with half of that, in France, without the work of years. Juicy target here, Lucy.

Richard never said “a horse my kingdom for a horse” Shakespeare made that up in his play Richard III
if you watched the full video, she also casts doubt on the authenticity of that statement
