    If you pay the £17 a year subscription you get all versions of the OS maps and it connects with your GPS and overlays your position on the map like a SatNav You can plan routes in it too.
    Great vid as ever

    Tnx for taking us on that ride with you :-)
    Personally, I find the stop-start nature of navigating like you are doing really irritating when I'm trying to ride and navigate at the same time.
    So, as a solution, I pre-plan my route (on desktop mapping software) before setting off, and upload it to my nav tool (I use a garmin, but you could use your phone) and use that to guide me. Uninterupted riding is a joy :-)

    • @alexbristol5199
      @alexbristol5199 5 лет назад

      David, that is an excellent idea, please can you give more details, which desktop mapping software do you suggest we could start with? Also do you know a good phone app that we can upload the route as I understand Google Maps removed this facility some time ago, but I could be mistaken as I clearly know little on this subject? Thanks.

    • @DavidHarbottle
      @DavidHarbottle 5 лет назад +2

      @@alexbristol5199 Hi Alex. For off-road navigation you really need to use Ordinance Survey maps (1:50,000 series). I use Mapyx Quo software, which is free to download, but you have to buy the OS maps as tiles (cheap enough). There are others.
      Using Quo, you can create routes, and export to GPX files, which can be imported to all mobile navigation tools (inc google maps).

    Great entertainment! Reminds me of my first riding experiences on minibikes (Rupp, something or other): farmland and residential construction sites. Many of us have probably been chasing that "first go round" forever after. Here in the States, "green lanes" are a dime a dozen. But the experience and joy of riding "rough" (mildly challenging surfaces suffice) is universal fun. Thanks!

    You used to be able to ride most of the Ridgeway from Kingston Blount to Marlborough. En route you did come across some dubious homemade signs saying No Motor Vehicles. However these were unofficial and thus we took no notice. 2 Wheels cause very little damage unlike the 4x4 mud pluggers..Speak with the TRF they are the best people to tell you about legal green laneing... Great video Andy.

    Nice vid - I bottled it the other day when I got to that grassy section as it had been raining and I basically wasn't moving on the original tyres. Took me ages to turn the bl**dy thing round - novice off-roader! Bit of a warning though - apparently the only definitive map of BOATs is with the local council. The OS maps are indicative only and things could have moved on - for example temporary restrictions or closures. There aren't always notices up to show this. Or, worse, the notices haven't been taken down and the ramblers have a go at you - like when I was on the one that starts near Little Kimble!

    Great Vid TMF, really enjoyed that. Recently did an overseas tour with a fair bit of "off road" type riding (Well they were roads but not as we know them). Certainly whetted my appetite. Considering a Royal Enfield Himalayan. Idea being that it will be OK to get me to the green lanes further afield.

    Love the crf videos, they’re what brought me to this channel originally. Ive got the 250 rally. I found those maps difficult to use, my tactic to find green lanes is to use google maps on satelite view. Scan around the rural areas until you find a rough looking road and then you can check it with street view. Works in buxton anyway. Theres loads that i couldn’t find on the survey map

      @ChuckFickens1972 5 лет назад

      All "green lanes" that are "byways open to all traffic" (BOAT) allow cars.
      They are an unpaved public highway, they have the same access laws as your local high street, they are literally a public road that just happens to have not been paved.
      You can check your local area ones by looking for the "Definitive Map" for your locality (they have to have one) and if a path is listed as a "BOAT" you can drive any road legal vehicle along it (TAXed insured, and MOT'd) and it's legal, if a private individual tries to stop you or blocks the way they are breaking the law.
      Here's the Essex one...

    Another great video, nice to see the crf getting a bit of action 😉 i use my crf off-roading and the best gloves I’ve had so far are the fox dirtpaw gloves- they’ve got the liner for touchscreens and are super comfy! Also whats your average speed and which gear do you use most when you’re offroad? I spend most my time thrashing 2 or an awkward 3rd gear whilst trying to get more confidence 😂

    You need to move out of the South East! The further you go the better it will be. More green lanes, less traffic (inc white vans!) and cheaper houses with bigger garages. Just check its somewhere with fast enough broadband to upload your vids and a nearby airfield and you’ll never regret moving.

    Use the definitive maps provided by the locals councils, they will show all the BOATs, better than OS.

    My CRF is the most fun bike I’ve ever ridden. No idea why but it might have something to do with.....I wonder if I can go down that lane?

    Maybe worth looking into the tet (trans European trail) as the name suggests it goes around the whole of Europe.

    Haha looks like you had a laugh, I know you have a bit of beef with vans, but you should try and get one stick your crf in the back and get over to the Isle of man, green lanes a plenty on a beautiful island my brother in law has just got back had a wail of a time its fantastic and not frowned upon like in England, just respect the island and the jobs a peach..On a different note mate if you get chance have a look at The ultimate crf250l bar set up, pro taper.. The guy is called Attention Deficit on you tube, I can see you getting some. Keep up the good work ride safe.. Cheers 👍👍🏍️😁

    Why don’t you just get the official OS maps app think it was £20 odd you get the whole uk several different map scales you can track or plot routes and much more

    • @TheMissendenFlyer
      @TheMissendenFlyer  5 лет назад

      These are the official OS maps and the official app - at this scale you have to pay alas....

      Hi Berny, yep I use the OS Map app, not the OS Map finder app. As you say your £20 per year gives you complete access to all the OS maps in the UK, no buying of tiles etc. Not to mention the ability to plan a detailed route to ride and follow on mobile or upload to a GPS. Having the route rendered in 3D also gives a good vision of the elevations you will travel. You also get access to download maps to your phone just in case you dont have access to mobile data. The OS Maps app comes into its own when the road sat nav fails to deliver detail or gets lost. I have paid for this OS subscription for numerous years, best investment ever! Used for riding motorcycles, mountain bikes, walking, hiking, also planning access to locations and projects as part of my job.
      I cant recommend the OS Map subscription and app enough!

      Daniel Bailey , yeah I couldn’t agree more I did t think there was a difference so many more features. And and when @missenden flyer said it’s several ££ per tile it probably costing more.

    one take home. The UK just isn't cut out for this off road stuff. Shame! You are better off getting on a mountain bike instead. But the novelty is there I guess. Regards High Wycombe massive
