    Cool demo, man! Xotic sounds nice as hell.
    I know this video is 4 years old, but I got a suggestion for you in case you're not already doing something like this these days: if you're gonna continue to sidechain-gate the background noise to the guitar, I'd add a -∞dBFS floor, a small hold time, and a bit of a release time. Think it would benefit the actual "shoot-out" element of the video for those of us out there listening on HPs! Cheers!

    • @jtguitartv
      @jtguitartv  3 года назад +1

      No gate used here. What you’re probably hearing is the auto-level on the camera adjusting itself.
      Thanks for the suggestion and thanks for watching. The xotic was a real investment and I’ve used it everyday since i got it. I can highly recommend it! :)

  • @upbeatmusiclessons9445

    I’ve tried all of these. The Boss is the noisiest pedal out of all. The MXR Dyno Comp is better than the Boss. I think the SP xotic compressor is the best but costs the most. The TC electronics is the cheapest price, kind of even in terms of sound with the MXR.

    I think the DYNA Comp had a clearer and tight tone which would sound better for Leads and tighter Low end IMO. The Boss may have more boost but I believe it sounds more muddy when cranked so you loose some definition in your notes.. The DYNA Comp seemed to retain more of the natural tone of the guitar but just rolls off some of the high frequencies a bit. I'm not old school or new school I just let my ears be the teacher. what ever Compressor gives you what YOU are looking for then get it!

    I have the boss and I hate it. The problem with it is you can’t dial in the compression in the right way. It has attack and sustain but the level knob acts as a volume knob. There is no ratio knob. That is the main problem.

    • @jtguitartv
      @jtguitartv  6 лет назад +1

      Ah, he's I had optimised each one to my personal taste. The piece I was paying uses two handed trapping as well as strumming and picking. Without the compressors the volume ranges quote a lot. The compressor helps to even it out and make it sounds smoother. It is pretty subtle though. :)

    Really superficial reason not to buy the Boss, but the Xotic SP is excellent.
    Pricier than the Boss (from a price/performance pov the Boss wins), but a great compressor that's popular for a reason.

    • @jtguitartv

      Yeah, I totally accept that it's a superficial reason not to buy the boss. I do have two other boss pedals on my board though so I also just wanted to share the love with some other brands. The exotic is also a lot cheaper to buy in the US than it is back here in the UK. So it was also a money saving opportunity. ;)

      I bought it because I was visiting the US and it’s the only one made there. Also, it was a chance to buy an American pedal without paying extra for buying it in the UK. It was also the best sounding (though they were all great). And it’s compact. Loads of positives. The only one I wasn’t into was the mxr but it was fine really. The TC is an absolute bargain though and I do have one of those in my studio too. Thanks for watching. :)

      It was my birthday, I hired a Camaro. I'm sorry if that offends you.

    Shitty review, you go based on money, even after saying that it wasn't as transparent as some of the others. For us tone purists, the extra $50-$70 doesnt really matter-TONE FIRST!!
    Im glad you chose the SP because it was the best one. Also, you should have chose the TC Electronic Hypergravity compressor instead of that cheaper compressor version.

    I have electric guitar, and regular speaker, where there isn’t coming out the electric guitar sound. Will this compressor sustainer make a difference ? (Thx)

      Hi there, without knowing anymore about your speaker and how you’re connecting your guitar to it, I’m not sure how I can help.
      If you’re using a speaker without and amplifier it won’t work, an amplifier is needed to make the guitar signal strong enough to move the speaker.
      Are you using an amplifier or just a speaker without and amplifier? :)

      @@jtguitartv Maginon speaker and electric Harley Benton’s ukulele

      Yeah, I’m afraid that won’t work and a compressor won’t help. For the best result you’ll need to buy an acoustic guitar or acoustic instrument amplifier. Harley Benton make one called the HBAC-20, that should do the trick. :)
