    Had a break from RUclips because of life but very happy to see youve done this. Always love your comparisons and your dynamic playing really suits a compressor comparison. Listening to compressors and hearing attributes change is a skill in itself and is a good way for people to hone their ears. You can really tell the changes in character of attack, and more importantly release here. Longer release is great for lead but as times gone on ive learned to appreciate more energetic compressors as i play much like you and I like it when they get out of the way quicker. All the best for the new year from North Wales Uk!

      @@xebio6 the Behringer comes in last in 4th place, but it’s still a reliable budget comp.
      The Boss CS-3 feels almost indistinguishable at times, with a bit more fidelity and boosted highs. Boss comps have never been my favorites, the CS-3 is just as average as it gets. The CS-2 was a more musical circuit, but I think it was also modified during its original run, so you have to search a bit if you want a good one, I think.
      2nd place is the Forcefield. When I think TC Electronics pedals, I usually start with the Hypergravity. But the Forcefield might best it. Anyone know what makes them different?
      1st is the Tone corset. One of the coolest comps on the present market. Like EHx tried to mimic the Keeley comp pro from their Soul Preacher circuit. Picking a used one up for $50-60 is gonna benefit anyone who needs a good compressor for recording!

      I’m not much of a fan of the Philosophers Tone. I have the full sized (5 knob) one, and find it a bit fiddly and don’t care much for the drive control at all (which seems to end up in the mix even at zero). The pedal does have its fans- it doesn’t get that squashed sound. I recently got the Safron Squeeze by Way Huge and like that a lot. While it does have the same number of controls, three of them are kind of auxiliary. Plus it is very, very quiet.

    • @marjimhip8487
      @marjimhip8487 3 года назад +3

      It depends on what you’re using the compression in order to achieve. A compressor can also have a great effect on other effects. Regardless, compression is not a “con trick” in any sense of the phrase. However, the vast majority of people who purchase compression pedals have little understanding of their function, and often don’t even notice when the effect is effective. A compressor isn’t going to benefit novice guitarists, or even some “intermediate” players. But compression is one of the more important effects to people who use it correctly/usefully.
