Midnight Blue is kind of a Minor Blues in Fm. The A section is only Fm and a guitar melody, while the B section offers a nice chord melody and deviates from the regular Jazz Minor Blues.
In this Jazz guitar lesson I'll teach you note for note, slow and easy, how to play Minor Blues
on guitar. I provide you with aslow version towards the end of this Minor Blues guitar tutorial,
so you can play along, without any hurry.
The B section of Midnight Blue has great guitar chords for a Minor Blues. Kenny Burrell uses
upper chords plus amelody line in between. This is an awesome way to fill up amelody.
I also made the Midnight Blue guitar tabs, which can be downloaded from one of the links above.
If you want to jam along with me, just download the Midnight Blue backing track as well.
I explain everything very detailed, show you tips and tricks how to fret better, make better
fingering choices etc.
So I really hope my Midnight Blue guitar lesson is helpul for you.
I explain the guitar chords, the melody, the scale he uses, to make things very clear to you.
I need your support, so if you like this Midnight Blue guitar tutorial please give the viceo a
thumbs up, subscribe to my channel and don't forget to share the jazz knowledge :-)

I've spent weeks of my time following other YT channels studying jazz. Sandra's IS the best. Very well organized with every number I'm interested in, many with solos. Thank u for such accurate translations from horns to guitar. Studying the masters is so helpful, and all the hard work is done already. I promise to send $ when I am able Sandra. Your efforts are very much appreciated.
Wow, thank you! ❤️ Enjoy the channel and keep swinging!
Couldn't agree more. She is so precise in her explanations, and she has about every song covered you can imagine :-)
The coolest song on this planet. Great tutorial too!
Glad you dig it 😊
These are great lessons. The best jazz guitar lessons on RUclips! Thank you so much for sharing your talent.
Aaww, that's really sweet of you! Thanks so much ❤
Thanks very much I've always loved this classic! I played at a gig last week and we kicked of the set with chitlins con carne! The audience loved it!
Chitlins is also a great song I already considered.
I really dig Kenny Burrell and this is one of my favorites. Thanks for breaking it down for us. You are the best Sandra!

muy bonito, gracias
amazing lesson! thank you very much!
Awsome! I love it!
Thank you very much for this wonderful lesson.
Glad you enjoyed it so much ❤

Thanks so much ❤️. That's a great time, I love it. I like the contrast of the two sections, always fun to go from a bluesy head to those pure jazz chord melody.

Nice song, never heard of it. Thanks for the easy lesson.
Where have you been?
Thanks Sandra for another great lesson. I had learned a version of Midnight Blue from other RUclips videos, but your version is far better. Much appreciated, Jim from Scotland.
Hi Jim from Scottland 😊
Thanks for your very nice words ❤️
Excellent lesson for a great tune! Vielen Dank!
Thank you too!
What a great tune Sandra. I nailed this one quick because I love it. I use it as a warn up routine now. And it keeps my memory going for a aging guitar player that does not want to loose any notes along the way. I need to listen to more of Kenny Burrell records. Thanks, Jerry
Kenny is a pleasure to listen too. I used to not like him when I studies jazz guitar at the university. But these days I really dig his style.
So...you woke up?
yeah ! tanks
Nic e as always, thanks.
Cool as!!

AHH YES!! I've always wanted to learn jazz guitar and this is such a great way. THANK YOU!
Welcome to the jazz ride on my channel 😊
Very nice thank you
Glad you like it!
Brilliant choice Sandra - Kenny Burrell not heard of too much these days, but a huge inspiration to jazz, rock and blues guitarists in his day.
Many of my colleagues at the music university were huge fans. I started to like him a lot later. He truly is one of the best jazz blues players!
@@GuitarversumSandraSherman
Sadly he’s had life struggles and was unable to live off his music legacy. I hope things have changed for him. He is truly an excellent musician.
the best!!!!
❤️❤️❤️
Great lesson, I just recently decided to incorporate Midnight Blue into my set list. This is gold, an excellent starting point with lots of room to move. Thank You...!
Wow, I see this comment now, after 2 years. because you became a member, all your unanswered comments are shown to me. I don't even see alot of normal comments. I don't know why.
@@GuitarversumSandraSherman LOL, I don't need any acknowledgement, I'm just trying to give support for all you do. It's nice to know you can see it now... Thank You!

Bought the tabs, worth every penny!
Thanks! Glad you like it ❤️
I can't believe, as a Sandra Groupie, I haven't seen thisone before. Great version and one of my favourite Burrell tracks. Einfach Klasse!!!!
Hihi, danke fürs reinschauen 😊
Niceeee!
Another amazing arrangement! This will be the third song I download plus will download previous ones you have arranged! Maybe someday just maybe someday when I'm good enough to play in café/pubs here, my repertoire will be all your arrangements! I am calculating maybe in 2-3 years of serious practice. A lot of small cafes and pubs here where I live. Cheers Sandra!!!
As far as I can tell, you're one of the most disciplined, diligently practicing persons I know. So your goal is probably doable. Keep swingin'!
Thank you!!!
Wow. ! I made it to 2:10 then back to 1:25 and back and forth about 8 times...and am playing it now....I guess it's time to watch the rest of the video! Thanks so much!
Haha, you're a sweatheart 😂❤️
Wonderful Sandra, and more greetings from Australia, where there are wombats as well.
Wombats and all kind of poisonous things 😁
Cool song. Good tutorial :))
Thanks ❤️
Patrón sería bien maestra.
great lesson. great song. For those that don't know, the whole Kenny Burrell Midnight Blue album is on youtube. It's great!
Yes, it's absolutly awesome! ❤️
Great thx! How about doing the solo too? Would be great!
LOVE IT Sandra !!!, i was listening to this very track earlier today, with a mix of similar tunes i put together, thinking to myself, i wish Sandra would give us her versions of these. i am buying the tabs and backing track even though im not ready yet (still on "in a sentimental mood").
i have some friends in Australia so i will arrange a delivery of kangaroos for you (would 6 or 7 do?) i look forward to seeing them hopping about in the background next thursday.
Hahaha, would love me some kangaroos 😂. Now you have. something to look forward for after you have finished In A Sentimental Mood. Keeps you motivated 😊
I have all your mini lessons written down . Now my new mission started last December which is watch every single video of yours and write down in order to make sure I don’t miss any lesson but I’m picking the comping, the theory, jazz blues and so on and leaving the chord melody for last because is more challenging for me. I’ve never been so consistent I’m my life . But what I’m learning with your lessons is a great school of jazz that I could never afford to pay ❤
Wow, you're atrue diligwnt jazz bee 🐝! You have set your goals and priorities straight and I want to congratulate you on your discipline and dedication. Bravo, Roberto 👏!
The best tutorial thanks, what pedal did you use for the song?
Thanks! No pedal, just a Fender amp.
Sandra, you are my instructor tonight, it will be learned on my es175!
You and your jazz lady and me tonight ;-)
What year? Congrats!
So my wife looks at me when I sat down to play this and says,"Rich that's Billy Jean by Micheal Jackson". To which I hit my looper and began the single notes, "no it's not." To which she moonwalked right out of the room. Sometimes actions are worth a thousand words.
Hahaha, your wife is great 😂
I hear Moondance -Van Morrison
@@ralex3697I didn't hear that until you mentioned it. This is (Midnight Blue) one of my all-time favorite albums. An oldie but goldie.
I don't think you'd have heard that on the album. (Now you will, and so will I. Can't unhear it now. 😂)
YEah super nice... i have the tab for guitar pro ;) thanks..
Cool! Do you perform it anywhere? If you want to, you can post your performance of my arrangements on the Guitarversum Facebook wall.
Sandra, perfect lesson as ever, but... what happens after the theme? How are the chords & comping on the solo or solo's? Do we stick to the 16 bar form and the chords on the B section, or is it more like the intro (just the groove) and then go back to the theme/form on que?
The solo Form is the 8 bat's of Fm7 and the other 8 bat's I played as chord melody. No intro there. So it's a16bar song form.
🦘🦘🦘 lovely video 🍻
Are you from Australia? Because we don't have kangaroos in Austria 🇦🇹 😁
Guitarversum Sandra Sherman hahahahahaha, Montréal... but loved a remark you made (weather report) on austria vs Australia...👍🏼
Thank you! This would segue nicely into Serenade to a Cuckoo by Rashaan Roland Kirk as recorded by the bluesy first incarnation of Jethro Tull on their debut, This Was... That'd be another great lesson - thanks again!!
What no kangaroos!!? Wahnsinn!! Servus aus Kanada
😁😁😁
Thank you for that lesson. I'm a new subscriber from the USA, the state of Alabama, city of Piedmont, Alabama 36272 Roll Tide, that is football talk.
Enjoy the jazz ride on my channel!
