[Controller Support update from the Once Human Discord]
Once Human now supports game controllers! Experience the game in a different way with your favorite controller.The game will automatically detect your controller's button layout. Currently, Xbox, PlayStation, and Switch Pro controller layouts are available. If your controller is not correctly recognized by the game, please report your controller's model and your preferred button layout to us. (Once Human team)
You may choose from any of the following preset control schemes:
-Default: Suitable for most Once Human players.
-Left-Handed: Suitable for left-handed players.
-Shooter: Similar to most mainstream shooting games.
-Action: Similar to most mainstream action games.
You can choose which preset to use or customize your own control scheme at the Settings screen.
As controller support is a new feature, we are still optimizing some parts of the game for controllers, and controllers may not work with all features.
We are working hard to make the necessary adjustments and improvements to give you the best experience possible.
Controller support is currently unavailable in the following features:
Camera mode
-Actions relating to weapon or vehicle stickers
-Playing the piano and other features that may be hard to use with a controller
-If the game freezes or any other problem occurs while playing with a controller, please report it to us via our feedback channels. Your opinions and suggestions are important to us. We take them seriously and will address them as soon as possible.
We have also implemented other optimizations regarding keyboards, controllers, and their relevant settings, as follows:
-Added support for controller vibration. This can be enabled or disabled at the Settings screen.
-Added support for French and German keyboards. You can choose your keyboard layout at the Settings screen.
-Optimized the display logic of the Controls settings screen, as well as some of the descriptions, to make it easier to find specific settings

Well you can (in the Steam version), however there were some steps I took to get it working.
Both the Playstation 5 DualSense controller and Xbox Elite Pro Controller 2 were tested.
1. Open steam and go to Steam/settings/Controller
2. I main an Xbox controller on PC, so I installed the Xbox Extended Feature Support Driver which requires a PC restart
3. Once restarted, you should see the controller name at the top.
4. Enable Steam input for Xbox Controllers
5. PlayStation Controller Support - Enabled in Games w/o Support
6. Not tested on Nintendo Switch Pro controller but if I get enough requests, I'll test it.
7. Enable steam input for generics controllers, not sure if needed but I enabled it anyway.
That's all in this menu.
You will now need to close steam fully via task manager.
Now here is the kicker. You need to run Steam as Admin, which is not something I ever recommend as it gives Steam (or any other applications you do this to) more access to your PC than it needs. But if you are desperate to play Once Human with a controller, then you'll need to do this.
8. Go to the game and if your controller is detected by steam, you should see Controllers Not Supported. Click on View Controller Settings.
9. I have enabled the Steam Community config by NickBrock11 but there are others available. Click open "browse community layouts" and find the one that works.
10. For the Playstation controller, I couldn't find a community one, so I just used the Keyboard (WASD ) and Mouse option.

When you're saying controller support are you also talking about the main controls on a steam deck or do we have to use a playstation or xbox controller ?

I find it insane that these companies don't just add full controller support at launch. Theres tens of thousands of ppl that play on pc and only use controller like myself. They're basically losing out on thousands of players for a simple feature...

Tried everything but run steam in admin mode, thanks it worked for me, I can play mnk but controller is better for my set up cause it hurts me to sit up at my desk to play mnk due to injuries I've had, life saver dude.

I think the main issue for me was not closing steam out completely in the task manager. Once I did that step, closing steam completely before entering admin mode, it worked immediately!

@@mogeo_games hmm maybe but maybe not.. my brother tried yesterday and it didn’t work. Today he did the same steps but now its working for him. It seems like it just bugs sometimes or maybe there is a delay for some people or maybe just need a hard reset after first attempt? Idk hard to tell.

It's so odd that Once Human's priority takes over Steam's overlay, so Steam Input won't work on that game by default (even with KBM mapping on Steam Input).

I hope they make an update with the controller soon. Ive actually been using mouse and kb. But its a learning curve for me because i basically never play like that. I play on rog ally. Game runs great on that though.
If you can stick with it, you should as it will become a lot smoother. I used controllers/gamepads for 30+ years so the muscle memory was tough to build for Mouse and keyboard, but now, being able to use both makes us better than those that can only use keyboard and mouse. #justsayin :)
@mogeo_games not gonna lie. Over the passed couple days I am starting to get used to it and I see why it can be better in ways. Being able to turn right around using a mouse and the points and click feel of shooting definitely has its perks. I'm just very slow on the moving aspect and it's hard for me when things get crazy to move and shoot and all that. I'm getting better at it though.

You guys could run xpadder and set up the controller lay out for yourself. This is what I do for every game. I also like doing a controller mouse combo with xpadder.
I will definitely check that out, although I rarely use a controller these days!

Thanks for the great guide. I don't understand why so many people just settle for the current meta of being hunched over a desk to play games with tools originally conceived and designed for office work.
I am lucky as I have now gotten pretty good with both. My gaming chair, which I bought not long ago go, has made a massive difference. I played Enshrouded tonight (video out soon) and I switch half way through to controller as it felt more comfortable. Still at the desk though. Once Human is scheduled to provide support for controllers in early August. Efforts are underway to ensure a seamless controller compatibility, with a focus on delivering a high-quality experience to players.
3. When will the game support key rebindings?
The implementation of key rebindings is currently in progress for the game, and it is anticipated to be available in mid-August.

This method also works for PS4 controllers. I'd like to thank you so much for this because it was super difficult to play with keyboard and mouse (for some reason I can't do an actual comment so I'm commenting here)

That’s weird, no idea why. Controllers should work without steam after the latest update. I’ll try it out.
for some reason even tho my layout says left joystic for movement but when the game start i can use every botton on the xbox xontroller except the left joystic ? thats the only part of my controller button layout that dosent work at all highly fustrating ? Can anyone help if i press down on the left joystic steam text keyboard comes up ?

all the buttons work on my controller except forward and walk right can someone help me she clicks her fingers instead but the setting is walk
Which controller? If it's Xbox or Playstation then you should be good to go after tomorrows update.
for me the controls work fine the only issue is i get to much input lag on controller for it to even be playable on controller

Unfortunately epic players are screwed until they update it with controller support. I will say thank you for passing the lowest bar and respecting that player preference is simply that, the written forum I found on this subject devolved from the start into aggression over controllers versus keyboards... And they wonder why people think gamers are toxic. Personally I find the argument moot because I make sure the games I've been working on support both controllers and keyboards plus I like to throw in hybrid controls because that's my actual preference. The only thing worse than fans that bicker over which is better and think the other player preferences wrong are developers who pick a side and actively undermine a whole player preference. Doesn't matter how good your game is if you're UI and preferred input destroys the gameplay.
Nice one Handy! It is important for accessibility reasons for sure. Speaking of Hybrid, I played 7 days to die with a controller in left hand and mouse in right hand. It worked well. :D
I might've read that same post if it was on Steam. A whole lot of "go back to console if you want to play controller" responses...even when people stated their preference was due to disability.

Dualdualsense wireless controller ps5 work on pc for once human?
I don’t think it will work wireless. You will need to plug in via usb. But yes the ps5 controller works.

Only issue you cant use the hotbar items
4, 5, 6, 7 etc? Yeah that could be a problem, especially if heals are on the hotbar. You could probably program it in the steam controller config.
The run as admin button doesn’t pop up for me
To run programs as admin you must have an administrator account. You can check account type in Control Panel / users. If it's not labeled as an administrator account, you won’t be able to run as admin.

I tested the dual sense in the vid and it worked fine. Be sure to fully terminate Steam and have the controller connected before running steam as admin.

Sorry, I don’t know what that is.
There are some games I just have to use controller on.
1. Apex Legends: I used to play this a lot on PS4/5 so moving to PC and trying to switch just didn't work for me. I no longer play Apex though.
2. Conan Exiles: I have no idea why, but it just feels better for me. I use the mouse for Inventory management, but everything else is controller.
3. Astroneer: For this one I think it's muscle memory from all the building I have done in the game. The switch feels alien. I use the mouse occasionally for digging and inventory.
All new games on the PC I will start with Mouse & Keyboard now especially shooters! I am happy to be able to have the choice (and skill level🤪) to use both!

That's strange as it worked fine with my PS5 controller. Are you sure you killed Steam completely via task manager before running it as admin. Also, are you plugging in the controller via USB?
@@mogeo_games yes usb is the only way I could gwt my ps5 controller to work lol. But I figured it out. When you closed the steam client there were 2 other steam things open in task management I had to close. Alot of work for nothing that game sucks 😆🤣

Thanks for the video. I got my control working. I couldn't find your layout. I had to use someone else layout it's not good U can't aim down sight not working, I can't use finger flicking, and I can't use the bottom bar on the right side of the screen. Can you save your layout in community layouts so other players can use your layout. I don't know how to lay out the game using the xbox controller.
No worries, I don't actually use controller for Once Human so I so not have a config. There were a few options for Once Human for xbox.
You can just edit it yourself if needs be.

F_____ ___, after countless days of looking. This video completely UNRELATED TO THE Ally or AllyX and windows install on the steamdeck is now finally FIX!!!!!!!!!!!......... Steam needs to be run as admin. I must be mentally unstable this issue was stressing me out way more than it had any right too.

@@mogeo_games that's because consoles were officially "banned" until 2015. Those 31% PC were mostly MMO players, and those 66% Mobile players were essentially playing with a touchscreen version of a controller.
Starry Studio did announce they were including controller support with the launch during Once Human's beta test, but now we know they announced post-launch that they're delaying it to early August.
