First time ever pole fishing with only a 4 meter pole

  • This was my first ever attempt pole fishing. I was quite nervous and didn`t know what to expect. I have seen many videos on "RUclips" on how to do pole fishing, but I don´t have all the gear and equipment. Only a pole. I can see that one would probably need stands and platforms etc. the longer the pole gets, but it seems like a lot of money. I have to admit I really enjoyed fishing with the pole and could very quickly cast and reposition after a miss strike.
I was worried about the strength of a Carp going on a forceful wild run once it`s hooked especially when there`s no reel and line to absorb the burst, but I was surprised how well the elastic in the pole took care of it. Quite a new concept for me. Such a great feeling catching fish with the pole. Everything seems so basic and a feeling of getting back to the root of fishing traditionally.
I will definitely do more pole fishing even though I am an all round fisherman who does Spin fishing and fly fishing and coarse fishing the standard way.

love the minimalistic approach the short pole/ whip gives, much better than having to drag an entire tackle shop about like match anglers do

Thanks. Yes for sure, I also like to travel light and be able to dash in and out. Otherwise it becomes a mission and I like to go fishing sometimes in the spur of the moment😉👍

the first time i went carp fishing the only rod i had was a beach caster i put a boily on and slung it out not even a rod rest 10 minutes later landed an 18 pound mirror al the other anglers had all the carp gear 3 rods bite alarms etc the could not beleive what i was fishing with but they didnt have a bite the fish has no idea what tackle you use or dont use only thing that counts is what is in the water that they can see keep at it fella

For sure. I agree. I enjoy nice tackle etc, but like you said the fish only sees what is in the water. My motto has always been to buy the best gear that you can afford. I enjoy a challenge sometimes to see how creative I can be catching a fish with tackle that are entry level and not fancy. The bare minimum. I find it more rewarding. I am not into all the brand name stuff etc etc. When that becomes a priority then I think one misses the simplicity and essence of fishing.
      Just my opinion though🙂
