Very interesting interview. Thanks for posting. I think it very much shows Ritchie as a personality, he really explains what was the reason for moving on from DP to Rainbow and then to the knid of music he plays now. Whatever he does next - I would respect it, because he IS the outstanding musician, he really has the right to choose the knd of music he will be playing next, - and I am sure he will maintain same CLASS as he always maintained before.
Thank you for sending this rare interview Alex!!! Master Blackmore and Ronnie are both geniuses, but each had different ideas about which music should be played. Both do like being in charge. But Rainbow was Ritchie's band, so Ronnie had no choice but to leave. Good thing he did--look what he did for Black Sabbath and his own band DIO.
At last a good no crap interview from Ritchie, tells it as it is and was, will always be underated, due to not being popular. if you cant feel what you play ,leave. Agreed with all he said.
I totally agree. For me B. is the best too forever. Every note he plays has function, so his music is clear, well composed. I don't like all of his hits, but I like all his solos even in his bad hits, eg. Smoke on the Water. (I don't like that.) Recently I've bought his new album, the Locked in a Crystal Ball - or sg. like it - perfect! 8 minuites, but not dull, it's found out very vell. Best wishes: a drummer from Hungary
What is amazing is that blackmore, page, beck, clapton, townsend all kind of grew up near each other and look what they did to the world of guitar players!!By the way he,s worn a wig since 77(i saw that tour with his new hair!!),Brilliant guitarist.
In my opinnion Blackmore is the best guitarist of all time, he never took drugs just like Hendrix, Page and others did, and what a great music he have made without them. He have made a lot of classics in hard rock, but now he play medieval music, folk rock and stuff like that, and its still great.
No he's not. The greatest guitar player ever is James Marshall Hendrix always will be. Is one thing I do agree with you about Richard Blackmore he did not take drugs but he drinks alcohol that is a biggest addiction then taking drugs alcohol is the biggest killer on planet earth Like I said James Marshall Hendrix greatest guitar player ever he plays the guitar upside down play lead guitar and rhythm and singing at same time that's what you call the greatest guitar player number one always will be number one. Richard Blackmore is not capable of doing it. Just a boring English guitar player can't play the blues
@@neddobrijevic3183 You have been bull crapped he did coke in rainbow with Dio look it up he does and interview saying so he hid in his room back stage and then lied he wasn't doing drugs, but then admits it in interview on his own podcast, and you are blind in star warship he is still drinking and a raging drunk, ever hear his jam Drinking with the Devil and he partied with a girl I know at the Detroit show in 84 where she did coke with him you are Starstruck I was there playing too back then and I have a drummer from Megadeath from the 80 's playing with me right now with me Lee Rauch I know Ritchie and his bull that he didn't do drugs was a rolling joke even back then.... you are wrong ......
@neddobrijevic3183 Blackmore was doing what Hendrix could do before Hendrix arrived in the UK.Brian May has stated this in interviews. Blackmore has stated that Hendrix was not technically brilliant, and Eddie Van Halen said that Hendrix was sloppy. Can you play like Ritchie or Eddie?
@@thebutchbylowexperience7473yeah everybody took drugs in the 60s not just Hendrix so stop judging Hendrix on that. James Marshall Hendrix is the greatest guitar player on planet earth always will be. Richard Blackmore not in the same league
the music in alot of these interviews is loud because the intended viewers don't speak english, they are reading the subtitles. this, for example, is for japanese tv.
That "eastern" music you can hear is Ritchie's intro to b ode to joy on the 94 japan tour, some amazing improvisation and there is a full orchestra there too! Look it up on here!!
Ritchie is my seconed fav guitarist of all time. First is SRV and page is a good 3rd. I never cared much for hendrix. Used to but got over it. Redhouse was my fav of his but its everivant Ritchie rocks. He is amazing.
He may have his ignorant moments or whatever, but when you get right down to it he is a very respectable artist and does what he wants. As a person he can be immature, but he's not the demon that a lot of people paint him out to be.
I really like Blackmore - one of the best ever. Whenever someone says something like "there have been no fresh ideas in rock in 10 years" it just means that they have been looking in the wrong places. There is a lot more to regurgitate, but also fresh acts. I do agree with him that it the fresh ideas are not the hit records though.
Yeah the 70's where a top decade and i agree with u to a point on Zepp, when Zepp rocked they really rocked, but on every album they didn't, there was always blues, folk, country even touches of reggae.
He said when he was in school he didn't want to know the past, he only wanted to know about the future. Except, no one knows about the future, Ritchie. IT HASN'T HAPPENED YET!!! Who needs another Spinal Tap movie when we have the real thing in Ritchie Blackmore.
I agree that reforming DP MkII was a mistake. It's a salutary lesson for people who want to see great bands reform. Probably best to remember them as they were in their heyday...
nice video that's true that Ritchie Bla ckmore is hard too understand by some moment but the music is nice, especially the improvised guitar solo. By the way is someone knows from wich CD or DVD it come from ?
House of Blue Light is not worse than Perfect Strangers - to me. I can,t believe that RB doesn,t like eg. Spanish Archer. He is playing so well, so passionately in that, he doing his best.
Richie you are a good man and a rebel but don't take it so harsh on your friend and fellow musician Ian Gillan bc he would do everything for you my friend... bros before hoes Richie...
great stuff from a total genius. wish he would get rainbow back together with dio ( or me ) on vocals. i do a mean man on the silver mountain in the bath.
Good interview... They got what they wanted from blackmore, but the questions were really ridiculous, with exepcion of some (i'm 14 and i listen do DP)
This was 20 yrs a go or so now. I'd disagree with him because at that point there was still some damn good music. The past ten years, I'd say have been stale.
I like Ritchie Blackmore a lot, but I didn't know he had any issue with Ronnie James Dio. Dio was a way better singer than Gram Bonnet. Dio has been crowned as best heavy metal vocalist, more than once. Grahm Bonnet has never been crowned anything. Joe Lynn Turner was also way better than Graham Bonnet.
I'm not a huge Turner fan but dude...Graham Bonnet is a nearly impossible act to follow in the studio. Very few guys were as good in the studio as him. He was a monster. Turner is a very decent singer. Just not great.
@nba2065 I'm not saying your wrong but, I don't agree. I think he's closeminded, but at least honest about his opinions. I don't know, I'll kiss his ass for space trucking, one of my fav riffs.
Blackmore seems such an easy-going personality in this interview. But the background music is too loud and Ritchie's voice is too soft. Great interview though.
By admitting being in the reformed Purple gave him a chance to be lazy and just amble along 'so to speak', is a little like saying, he didn't give a fuck that his fans were being ripped off. Basically he sold out, he should never have gone back into it if that was his attitude. I saw them in Sydney in 1985... totally uninspired rubbish I thought and I was always a big fan of Purple.
you have to be crazy wild and peapol must think you are from enother planet, to be good musician, your thoughts must be different from others if not you are like everybody else , all good musician are crazy in there own way and thats wat makes them good musicians. this is my opinion..
Interesting comments how you would sabotage your efforts Ritchie Blackmore. I am a Gemini and tend to do it regularly even now.. its because the challenge is no longer there and i know it because what i did was for me no one else.. that's parts of the reasons i self sab.. analyze it more its self centred ness i think any ideas out there?
76,666 th person to view this....yikes ! blackmore is into "all that stuff " ...well, i will put a spell on you ritchie -"you WILL get along with the rest of purple " "you WILL make another non compromising rainbow lp " .... and you WILL give me the strat you used on "burn " ....you WILL .
Richie Blackmore rules supreme. Great watching theese interwiews. thanks for posting them.

thank you Ritchie for evry original songs you write and play , they wil rest forever .
Ritchie is a quiet spoken guy. The background music is too loud. Repost without the music.
Yes. The background music is disturbing!
I just love Ritchie Blackmore.
he seems really intelligent and honest.
what a genius ritchie is , in music , he new his goals
Great interview but the background music is too loud. Good to hear Ritchie is returning to playing some heavy music in the near future.

Wow, and this interview is already 10 years old! What a musician.

Tone of his voice is total opposite to his wild playing, the one and only❤❤❤

I agree with Nigel on everything, especially the last part
Rainbow has never had a bad singer. Neither has Deep Purple for that matter.
Ritchie Blackmore has a tendency to work with superb singers.
I'm so glad he actually said it!
Unfortunately he's right about today.
I just read you, then I heard him...Soo True..what a Pity!!!!! All the best mate
the music in alot of these interviews is loud because the intended viewers don't speak english, they are reading the subtitles. this, for example, is for japanese tv.
Inspiring interview. Interesting how any bands' best music comes early on, flying in the face of common conception that things always ripen with age.
@Rammbock Agreed. Ritchie is so soft spoken as it is, there shouldn't have been any background music at all.
That "eastern" music you can hear is Ritchie's intro to b ode to joy on the 94 japan tour, some amazing improvisation and there is a full orchestra there too!
Look it up on here!!
the greatest guitarhero of them all..
🤣🤣👈
blackmore is very reserved guy with underlinning issue,s on life
Can someone throw the guy who mixed the interview with "background" music in the soup please ?
Ritchie is my seconed fav guitarist of all time. First is SRV and page is a good 3rd.

Richard Blackmore he's just a normal guitar player does not impress me

reforming Mark II brought some really great music! Perfect Strangers is so good, to think that that album would not exist is depressing.
good comment on Jethro Tull, Ritchie Blackmore is a pretty interesting guy
good point at the end there.
true legend

Who needs another Spinal Tap movie when we have the real thing in Ritchie Blackmore.
"I tend to shy away from being too popular" ha ha ha
" I stayed in Deep Purple because I became lazy"
Hah thats amazing!
He asked Gillan to join Rainbow?! I never would have thought that!
Last question was the best!! hahaha
Thats exactly what I thought whilst watchin this, It's a interview for god sake, let me hear it.
I agree that reforming DP MkII was a mistake.
It's a salutary lesson for people who want to see great bands reform.

nice video that's true that Ritchie Bla ckmore is hard too understand by some moment but the music is nice, especially the improvised guitar solo. By the way is someone knows from wich CD or DVD it come from ?
People have said very similar things about Blackmore as he said about Graham Bonnet.
its "Difficult to Cure" (Rainbow). its from the budokan gig in '84
Amen
whoever made this video should have kept the background music....IN THE BACKGROUND!
House of Blue Light is not worse than Perfect Strangers - to me. I can,t believe that RB doesn,t like eg. Spanish Archer. He is playing so well, so passionately in that, he doing his best.
Yes, I think house of blue light is a great album… there’s some pretty good songs on it… not sure why Ritchie wasn’t too fond of it….
Yes I guessed that it's from a japanese interview ... Thank's. But, do you know if the guitar solo part is availaile on a DVD or a CD ?
Geniua speaking...!!! Shut up and listen!!
Richie you are a good man and a rebel but don't take it so harsh on your friend and fellow musician Ian Gillan bc he would do everything for you my friend... bros before hoes Richie...
from Japanese TV Program in 1997.
the music in the bk ground is annoying so i opened up the Master Volume on my tray and checked the 3D button it did make a difference.. try it..
A higher range dosent mean a better voice.
I play death metal but i dont listen to it well not alot I am just now starting to really like the heavier stuff
Someone get us a noise cancellation device!
Por favor, puede alguien traducirlo al español?Gracias!
I believe its Stargazer. I could be wrong though. It sounds like the live version.

Wonderful! Thanks footballKingdom!
Why is the music always in the background in Ritchies interviews? You can`t really hear what he`s saying.. That`s annoying.
this is guy is the captain of his ship. nobody tells him what to do. Uncompromising
yes
great stuff from a total genius. wish he would get rainbow back together with dio ( or me ) on vocals. i do a mean man on the silver mountain in the bath.
is that Elf playing in the backround (Dio's first band) yes it is
Damn the background music ruins this interview!!
Good interview...
They got what they wanted from blackmore, but the questions were really ridiculous, with exepcion of some
(i'm 14 and i listen do DP)
the music in the background is so annoyingly loud
what song is that at 6:49?
@Saturnlead Why? Because I thought Purple were lousy?
ritchie seems like his drunk and trying to hold him self togeather to get through the interview
