I replaced my Wyze VDB Pro with the 225 based off your review - and so far I love it!!! I had the Arlo too, but this Tapo has beaten them both, so far. The viewing angle is incredible. Also, I used your code for the Amazon purchase, and saved some bank. Thank you all-around for the great review!!!

I just stumbled upon your channel after being in the Wyze universe for over 5 years with gobs of Wyze gizmos they no longer make or support, so Tapo might just be my "next sphere!" Your Tapo D225 Video Doorbell review was honest and convincing. It will definitely replace my Wyze Video Doorbell! Now I am now planning to replace my Wyze Cam V3s, hoping you reviewed Tapo's selection. Thanks George!!

The only thing my Amcrest AD410 doorbell can do that the Tapo D225 cannot is to integrate with my existing OG 24V (transformer is in the attic) doorbell chime that came with the house via a special kit. Even so, I'm leaning towards getting a Tapo wired doorbell in the future because multiple Tapo H200 hubs (has a speaker) can be set up in various locations and then programmed so that all hubs chime simultaneously when the doorbell is pressed. If Tapo's current 3rd-party integration friendly product line (unlike TP-Link's KASA line, which is proprietary) of indoor/outdoor cameras/doorbells and smart outlets, switches, lights, door locks, and sensors (motion, temperature, humidity, floor water detection) had been available in the U.S. about 5 years ago, my entire smart home would be Tapo.
I'm especially looking forward to the upcoming Tapo H500 Smart Homebase that will serve both as a hub (up to 64 devices) and as local camera video storage that supports an up to a 16TB HDD or SDD (goodbye and good riddance to expensive and performance-limited micro sd cards). I am frankly shocked that TP-Link is being so consumer friendly about enabling vast+cheap local storage rather than insisting that everyone use their Tapo Care cloud services. TP-Link, if you're listening, your consumer friendly decisions with the Tapo line (e.g. ONVIF support on cameras, 3rd party-friendly integration support, and releasing a hub that uses an actual HDD/SDD for local storage) are making me feel VERY loyal to your company and its mission - keep up the consumer-focused work.
The hardest part for me right now is waiting for the Tapo H500 and also for my current video doorbell and outdoor cameras to start malfunctioning so I can justify replacing everything with Tapo smart devices.

I just replaced my Laview One Halo with this Tapo D225 and it is excellent. Quick response and it streams to the Google Home quickly after doorbell ring, had to do a work around to get the automation on the google home to stream it to my google hubs by having the Doorbell trigger a Kasa plug and the Google Automation look at the on/off status of the plug to make it stream to the google hub display. I like the 24/7 recording and not just activity recording. Just waiting for RTSP/Onvif so I can add it to my NVR.

Tapo link products are generally good but doorbell may have following downsides:
    - Only allows recording to SD Card. If someone steals your doorbell, the recordings are lost with it. I wish they have some sort of SmartHub or Base Station of sorts (similar to Arlo).
    - No Apple Home Support
    - No RTSP or ONVIF when running in hardwired mode
    - No integration with existing existing OG 24V doorbell chime. One has to use the chime that came with the unit.

When you connect it for the first time, it asks if you want to connect it to a hub, and this can be the H200, which has an SD card slot, or alternatively, you can buy the D130, which already comes with the hub but runs on battery.

I own a D235 which is almost the same. 2K 5MP. Sadly no Home Assistant support and no rtsp-stream, so you have to use the TAPO-app. No second chime possible, unless you buy an impractical TAPO hub. Videocall is annoying as it keeps ringing when you are away from home and someone who is home answers the door. This should be an option that you can turn off, but currently it isn’t. Still a very nice product with lots of options. No need to use the cloud storage as this offers practically no benefits. Can recommend it.

Love the doorbell but hate Tapocare which I believe between how difficult it is to set up and what you get it is not worth it. I will buy more of their cameras but will not purchase their scam Tapocare ever again. Horrible response from support and most likely that is how they make their money as their cameras are very reasonable for their quality. It is a shame that they are that bad on support.

I hope TP-Link is listening to you and has plans to implement your suggestions, the fed gov. is investigating TP-Link routers over concerns that they are stealing the data of American citizens and the military (because they are a Chinese company.) This makes me very cautious about buying their products. Securing your router may prevent them from accessing your data. I also wonder about the safety of their other products, this doorbell, cameras, etc.

    • @GeorgeLangabeer
